1And all the children of Israel assembled together in Silo, and there they set up the tabernacle of the testimony, and the land was subdued before them.

2But there remained seven tribes of the children of Israel, which as yet had not received their possessions.

3And Josue said to them: How long are you indolent and slack, and go not in to possess the land which the Lord the God of your fathers hath given you?

4Choose of every tribe three men, that I may send them, and they may go and compass the land, and mark it out according to the number of each multitude: and bring back to me what they have marked out.

5Divide to yourselves the land into seven parts: let Juda be in his bounds on the south side, and the house of Joseph on the north.

6The land in the midst between these mark ye out into seven parts; and you shall come hither to me, that I may cast lots for you before the Lord your God.

7For the Levites have no part among you, but the priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance. And Gad and Ruben, and the half tribe of Manasses have already received their possessions beyond the Jordan eastward: which Moses the servant of the Lord gave them.

8And when the men were risen up, to go to mark out the land, Josue commanded them, saying: Go round the land and mark it out, and return to me: that I may cast lots for you before the Lord in Silo.

9So they went: and surveying it divided it into seven parts, writing them down in a book. And they returned to Josue, to the camp in Silo.

10And he cast lots before the Lord in Silo, and divided the land to the children of Israel into seven parts.

11And first came up the lot of the children of Benjamin by their families, to possess the land between the children of Juda, and the children of Joseph.

12And their border northward was from the Jordan: going along by the side of Jericho on the north side, and thence going up westward to the mountains, and reaching to the wilderness of Bethaven,

13And passing along southward by Luza, the same is Bethel: and it goeth down into Ataroth-addar to the mountain, that is on the south of the nether Beth-horon.

14And it bendeth thence going round towards the sea, south of the mountain that looketh towards Beth-horon to the southwest: and the outgoings thereof are into Cariathbaal, which is called also Cariathiarim, a city of the children of Juda. This is their coast towards the sea, westward.

15But on the south side the border goeth out from part of Cariathiarim towards the sea, and cometh to the fountain of the waters of Nephtoa.

16And it goeth down to that part of the mountain that looketh on the valley of the children of Ennom: and is over against the north quarter in the furthermost part of the valley of Raphaim, and it goeth down into Geennom (that is the valley of Ennom) by the side of the Jebusite to the south: and cometh to the fountain of Rogel,

17Passing thence to the north, and going out to Ensemes, that is to say, the fountain of the sue:

18And it passeth along to the hills that are over against the ascent of Adommim: and it goeth down to Abenboen, that is, the stone of Been the son of Ruben: and it passeth on the north side to the champaign countries; and goeth down into the plain,

19And it passeth by Bethhagla northward: and the outgoings thereof are towards the north of the most salt sea at the south end of the Jordan:

20Which is the border of it on the east side. This is the possession of the children of Benjamin by their borders round about, and their families.

21And their cities were, Jericho and Bethhagla and Vale-Casis,

22Betharaba and Samaraim and Bethel,

23And Avim and Aphara and Ophera,

24The town Emona and Ophni and Gabee: twelve cities, and their villages.

25Gabam and Rama and Beroth,

26And Mesphe, and Caphara, and Amosa,

27And Recem, Jarephel and Tharela,

28And Sela, Eleph and Jebus, which is Jerusalem, Gabaath and Cariath: fourteen cities, and their villages. This is the possession of the children of Benjamin by their families.

1Toàn thể cộng đồng con cái Ít-ra-en tụ họp ở Si-lô, nơi họ đặt Lều Hội Ngộ. Xứ sở phải khuất phục họ.

2Trong số con cái Ít-ra-en, chỉ còn bảy chi tộc chưa nhận phần gia nghiệp của họ.

3Ông Giô-suê nói với con cái Ít-ra-en : “Cho đến bao giờ anh em còn lơ là không đi chiếm xứ mà ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của cha ông anh em, đã ban cho anh em ?

4Anh em hãy chỉ định ba người trong mỗi chi tộc. Tôi sẽ sai họ đi, họ sẽ lên đường rảo khắp xứ và phác hoạ địa hình để chia phần gia nghiệp, rồi trở lại với tôi.

5Họ sẽ phân chia xứ sở làm bảy vùng đất. Giu-đa sẽ ở lại trong lãnh thổ của mình ở phía nam, còn nhà Giu-se sẽ ở lại trong lãnh thổ của mình ở phía bắc.

6Anh em sẽ phác hoạ địa hình xứ sở đã chia làm bảy vùng đất, rồi đem lại đây cho tôi. Chính tại đây, tôi sẽ cho anh em bắt thăm trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa chúng ta.

7Các người thuộc chi tộc Lê-vi sẽ không có phần ở giữa anh em, vì chức tư tế ĐỨC CHÚA ban cho họ làm phần gia nghiệp của họ. Còn Gát và Rưu-vên và nửa chi tộc Mơ-na-se thì đã nhận phần gia nghiệp của họ ở bên kia sông Gio-đan, bên phía đông, phần gia nghiệp mà ông Mô-sê, tôi trung của ĐỨC CHÚA, đã cho họ.”

8Những người đó trỗi dậy và đi. Ông Giô-suê đã truyền cho những người đi phác hoạ địa hình của xứ và nói : “Anh em hãy đi rảo khắp xứ và phác hoạ địa hình, rồi trở lại với tôi. Chính tại đây tôi sẽ cho anh em bắt thăm trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA, tại Si-lô.”

9Những người ấy đi khắp nơi trong xứ, phác hoạ địa hình, phân chia các thành trong xứ làm bảy vùng đất và ghi vào sổ, rồi trở về với ông Giô-suê ở trại Si-lô.

10Ông Giô-suê cho họ bắt thăm tại Si-lô, trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA, và ở đó ông Giô-suê chia đất đai cho con cái Ít-ra-en, theo các phần đã phân phối.

11Trước hết, chi tộc con cái Ben-gia-min, theo các thị tộc của họ, bắt thăm được một phần đất. Phần đất họ bắt thăm được nằm giữa phần đất con cái Giu-đa và con cái Giu-se.

12Ranh giới phía bắc khởi đầu từ sông Gio-đan, đi lên sườn phía bắc Giê-ri-khô, rồi lên núi về phía tây và dừng lại ở sa mạc Bết A-ven.

13Từ đó, ranh giới ấy đi về phía Lút, ở sườn phía nam, tức là Bết Ên, rồi xuống Át-rốt Át-đa, trên ngọn núi ở phía nam Bết Khô-rôn Hạ.

14Sau đó, ranh giới lượn vòng và quay sang phía tây, hướng về phía nam từ núi đối diện với Bết Khô-rôn ở phía nam, rồi dừng lại ở Kia-giát Ba-an, tức là Kia-giát Giơ-a-rim, thành của con cái Giu-đa. Đó là phía tây.

15Về phía nam, từ tận cùng Kia-giát Giơ-a-rim, ranh giới tiến về phía tây, tới mạch nước Nép-tô-ác.

16Ranh giới đi xuống cho đến hết ngọn núi đối diện với thung lũng Ben Hin-nôm nằm trong cánh đồng Ra-pha ở phía bắc, rồi đi xuống thung lũng Hin-nôm, bên sườn Giơ-vút ở phía nam, và đi xuống Ên Rô-ghên.

17Sau đó, ranh giới lượn về phía bắc và tới Ên Se-mét, rồi tiến về Gơ-li-lót đối điện với dốc A-đum-mim, đi xuống tảng đá Bô-han, Bô-han là con ông Rưu-vên.

18Ranh giới lại đi qua sườn phía bắc đối diện với A-ra-va và đi xuống A-ra-va.

19Rồi ranh giới đi qua sườn bắc Bết Khoóc-la, dừng lại ở chỗ Biển Muối về phía bắc tiếp giáp với cửa sông Gio-đan về phía nam. Đó là ranh giới phía nam.

20Sông Gio-đan làm thành ranh giới phía đông. Đó là phần gia nghiệp của con cái Ben-gia-min với ranh giới chung quanh, chia theo các thị tộc của họ.

21Các thành của chi tộc con cái Ben-gia-min, theo các thị tộc của họ, là như sau : Giê-ri-khô, Bết Khoóc-la, Ê-méc Cơ-xít,

22Bết Ha A-ra-va, Xơ-ma-ra-gim,

23Bết Ên A-vim, Pa-ra, Óp-ra,

24Cơ-pha Ha Am-mô-ni, Óp-ni, Ghe-va, –đó là mười hai thành và làng mạc của các thành ấy-

25Ghíp-ôn, Ra-ma, Bơ-ê-rốt,

26Ha Mít-pê, Cơ-phi-ra, Mô-xa,

27Re-kem, Giếc-pơ-ên, Ta-ra-la,

28Xê-la Ha E-lép, Giơ-vút, tức là Giê-ru-sa-lem, Ghíp-át, Kia-giát –đó là mười bốn thành và làng mạc của các thành ấy–. Đó là phần gia nghiệp của con cái Ben-gia-min, chia theo các thị tộc của họ.
