1 Samuel

1And the men of Ziph came to Saul in Gabaa, saying: Behold David is hid in the hill of Hachila, which is over against the wilderness.

2And Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having with him three thousand chosen men of Israel, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

3And Saul encamped in Gabaa Hachila, which was over against the wilderness in the way: and David abode in the wilderness. And seeing that Saul was come after him into the wilderness,

4He sent spies, and learned that he was most certainly come thither.

5And David arose secretly, and came to the place where Saul was: and when he had beheld the place, wherein Saul slept, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his army, and Saul sleeping in a tent, and the rest of the multitude round about him,

6David spoke to Achimelech the Hethite, and Abisai the son of Sarvia the brother of Joab, saying: Who will go down with me to Saul into the camp? And Abisai said: I will go with thee.

7So David and Abisai came to the people by night, and found Saul lying and sleeping in the tent, and his spear fixed in the ground at his head: and Abner and the people sleeping round about him.

8And Abisai said to David: God hath shut up thy enemy this day into thy hands: now then I will run him through with my spear even to the earth at once, and there shall be no need of a second time.

9And David said to Abisai: Kill him not: for who shall put forth his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and shall be guiltless?

10And David said: As the Lord liveth, unless the Lord shall strike him, or his day shall come to die, or he shall go down to battle and perish:

11The Lord be merciful unto me, that I extend not my hand upon the Lord’s anointed. But now take the spear, which is at his head, and the cup of water, and let us go.

12So David took the spear, and the cup of water which was at Saul’s head, and they went away: and no man saw it, or knew it, or awaked, but they were all asleep, for a deep sleep from the Lord was fallen upon them.

13And when David was gone over to the other side. and stood on the top of the hill afar off, and a good space was between them,

14David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying: Wilt thou not answer, Abner? And Abner answering, said: Who art thou, that criest, and disturbest the king?

15And David said to Abner: Art not thou a man? and who is like thee in Israel? why then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to kill the king thy lord.

16This thing is not good, that thou hast done: as the Lord liveth, you are the sons of death, who have not kept your master, the Lord’s anointed. And now where is the king’s spear, and the cup of water, which was at his head?

17And Saul knew David’s voice, and said: Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said: It is my voice, my lord the king.

18And he said: Wherefore doth my lord persecute his servant? What have I done? or what evil is there in my hand?

19Now therefore hear, I pray thee, my lord the king, the words of thy servant: If the Lord stir thee up against me, let him accept of sacrifice: but if the sons of men, they are cursed in the sight of the Lord, who have cast me out this day, that I should not dwell in the inheritance of the Lord, saying: Go, serve strange gods.

20And now let not my blood be shed upon the earth before the Lord: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as the partridge is hunted in the mountains.

21And Saul said: I have sinned, return, my son David, for I will no more do thee harm, because my life hath been precious in thy eyes this day: for it appeareth that I have done foolishly, and have been ignorant in very many things.

22And David answering, said: Behold the king’s spear: let one of the king’s servants come over and fetch it.

23And the Lord will reward every one according to his justice, and his faithfulness: for the Lord hath delivered thee this day into my hand, and I would not put forth my hand against the Lord’s anointed.

24And as thy life hath been much set by this day in my eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the Lord, and let him deliver me from all distress.

25Then Saul said to David: Blessed art thou, my son David: and truly doing thou shalt do, and prevailing thou shalt prevail. And David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

1Người vùng Díp đến gặp vua Sa-un tại Ghíp-a và thưa : “Đa-vít chẳng trốn trên đồi Kha-khi-la, đối diện với hoang địa đó sao ?”

2Vua Sa-un lên đường và xuống sa mạc Díp, cùng với ba ngàn quân tinh nhuệ của Ít-ra-en, để tìm bắt ông Đa-vít trong sa mạc Díp.

3Vua Sa-un đóng trại trên đồi Kha-khi-la, đối diện với hoang địa, ở bên đường, còn ông Đa-vít thì ở trong sa mạc. Thấy vua Sa-un đến đuổi theo ông trong sa mạc,

4ông Đa-vít sai người đi do thám và ông biết là vua Sa-un chắc chắn đã đến.

5Ông Đa-vít lên đường và đến nơi vua Sa-un đóng trại. Ông Đa-vít trông thấy chỗ vua Sa-un và ông Áp-ne, con ông Ne, tướng chỉ huy quân đội của vua, đang nằm. Vua Sa-un nằm trong trại binh ; còn quân binh thì đóng trại chung quanh ông.

6Ông Đa-vít lên tiếng hỏi ông A-khi-me-léc, người Khết, và ông A-vi-sai là con bà Xơ-ru-gia và là anh ông Giô-áp : “Ai muốn cùng tôi xuống chỗ vua Sa-un đóng trại ?” Ông A-vi-sai thưa : “Cháu xin xuống với cậu.”

8Ông A-vi-sai nói với ông Đa-vít : “Hôm nay Thiên Chúa đã nộp kẻ thù của cậu vào tay cậu. Bây giờ, xin cho cháu dùng giáo ghim nó xuống đất, một nhát thôi ; cháu không cần đâm nhát thứ hai.”

9Ông Đa-vít nói với ông A-vi-sai : “Đừng giết vua ! Có ai tra tay hại đấng ĐỨC CHÚA đã xức dầu tấn phong mà vô sự đâu ?”

10Ông Đa-vít nói : “Có ĐỨC CHÚA hằng sống ! Chính ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ đánh phạt vua, hoặc khi ngày của vua đến mà vua phải chết, hoặc khi vua xuống giao chiến mà vua thiệt mạng.

11Nhưng xin ĐỨC CHÚA đừng bao giờ để tôi tra tay hại đấng ĐỨC CHÚA đã xức dầu tấn phong ! Bây giờ anh hãy lấy cây giáo ở phía đầu vua, cùng với bình nước, rồi chúng ta đi.”

13Ông Đa-vít đi sang phía bên kia và đứng trên đỉnh núi, ở đàng xa ; có một khoảng cách lớn giữa họ.

14Ông Đa-vít gọi quân binh và ông Áp-ne, con ông Ne, rằng : “Ông không trả lời sao, ông Áp-ne ?” Ông Áp-ne trả lời rằng : “Ngươi là ai mà dám gọi đức vua ?”

15Ông Đa-vít nói với ông Áp-ne : “Ông không phải là nam nhi sao ? Và trong Ít-ra-en, có ai được như ông ? Vậy tại sao ông đã không canh giữ đức vua, chúa thượng của ông ? Có một người dân đã đến để giết đức vua, chúa thượng của ông.

16Điều ông đã làm, thật không tốt. Có ĐỨC CHÚA hằng sống ! Các ông đáng chết vì đã không canh giữ chúa thượng của các ông, đấng ĐỨC CHÚA đã xức dầu tấn phong. Bây giờ hãy xem : cây giáo của đức vua đâu rồi, và bình nước ở phía đầu người đâu rồi ?”

17Vua Sa-un nhận ra tiếng ông Đa-vít và nói : “Đa-vít con cha, có phải tiếng của con đấy không ?” Ông Đa-vít nói : “Thưa đức vua là chúa thượng của con, vâng, tiếng con đó !”

18Rồi ông nói : “Tại sao chúa thượng lại đuổi theo tôi tớ ngài ? Con đã làm gì và tay con đã làm điều gì ác ?

19Bây giờ xin đức vua là chúa thượng của con vui lòng nghe tôi tớ ngài nói. Nếu là ĐỨC CHÚA đã xúi ngài chống con, thì xin Người ngửi mùi thơm của lễ phẩm. Nhưng nếu là người phàm, thì xin cho chúng bị nguyền rủa trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA, vì chúng đã xua đuổi con hôm nay, không cho con được dự phần cơ nghiệp của ĐỨC CHÚA, khi chúng bảo : ‘Hãy đi mà thờ các thần khác !’

20Bây giờ xin cho máu con đừng chảy xuống đất xa nhan ĐỨC CHÚA, vì đức vua Ít-ra-en đã ra trận để tìm bắt một con bọ chét, như người ta đuổi theo một con chim cuốc trong vùng núi.”

21Vua Sa-un nói : “Cha thật đắc tội ! Đa-vít con cha, trở về đi ! Cha sẽ không hại con nữa, bởi vì ngày hôm nay con đã coi mạng sống của cha là quý. Phải, cha đã hành động ngu xuẩn, cha đã sai lỗi nặng nề !”

22Ông Đa-vít trả lời : “Cây giáo của đức vua đây. Một trong các đầy tớ hãy sang mà lấy.

23Xin ĐỨC CHÚA thưởng công cho mỗi người tuỳ theo sự công chính và lòng trung thành của họ : hôm nay ĐỨC CHÚA đã nộp cha vào tay con, nhưng con đã không muốn tra tay hại đấng ĐỨC CHÚA đã xức dầu tấn phong.

24Hôm nay con đã coi trọng mạng sống cha, thì xin ĐỨC CHÚA cũng coi trọng mạng sống con như vậy, và giải thoát con khỏi mọi cảnh ngặt nghèo.”

25Vua Sa-un nói với ông Đa-vít : “Đa-vít con cha ơi, con được chúc phúc ! Chắc chắn con sẽ làm việc lớn, và sẽ thành công.” Ông Đa-vít tiếp tục con đường của mình, còn vua Sa-un thì trở về nhà.
