Acts

1And a certain man, Ananias by name, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

2and did keep back of the price — his wife also knowing — and having brought a certain part, at the feet of the apostles he laid [it].

3And Peter said, 'Ananias, wherefore did the Adversary fill thy heart, for thee to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back of the price of the place?

4while it remained, did it not remain thine? and having been sold, in thy authority was it not? why [is] it that thou didst put in thy heart this thing? thou didst not lie to men, but to God;'

5and Ananias hearing these words, having fallen down, did expire, and great fear came upon all who heard these things,

6and having risen, the younger men wound him up, and having carried forth, they buried [him].

7And it came to pass, about three hours after, that his wife, not knowing what hath happened, came in,

8and Peter answered her, 'Tell me if for so much ye sold the place;' and she said, 'Yes, for so much.'

9And Peter said unto her, 'How was it agreed by you, to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? lo, the feet of those who did bury thy husband [are] at the door, and they shall carry thee forth;'

10and she fell down presently at his feet, and expired, and the young men having come in, found her dead, and having carried forth, they buried [her] by her husband;

11and great fear came upon all the assembly, and upon all who heard these things.

12And through the hands of the apostles came many signs and wonders among the people, and they were with one accord all in the porch of Solomon;

13and of the rest no one was daring to join himself to them, but the people were magnifying them,

14(and the more were believers added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women,)

15so as into the broad places to bring forth the ailing, and to lay [them] upon couches and mats, that at the coming of Peter, even [his] shadow might overshadow some one of them;

16and there were coming together also the people of the cities round about to Jerusalem, bearing ailing persons, and those harassed by unclean spirits — who were all healed.

17And having risen, the chief priest, and all those with him — being the sect of the Sadducees — were filled with zeal,

18and laid their hands upon the apostles, and did put them in a public prison;

19and a messenger of the Lord through the night opened the doors of the prison, having also brought them forth, he said,

20'Go on, and standing, speak in the temple to the people all the sayings of this life;'

21and having heard, they did enter at the dawn into the temple, and were teaching. And the chief priest having come, and those with him, they called together the sanhedrim and all the senate of the sons of Israel, and they sent to the prison to have them brought,

22and the officers having come, did not find them in the prison, and having turned back, they told,

23saying — 'The prison indeed we found shut in all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors, and having opened — within we found no one.'

24And as the priest, and the magistrate of the temple, and the chief priests, heard these words, they were doubting concerning them to what this would come;

25and coming near, a certain one told them, saying — 'Lo, the men whom ye did put in the prison are in the temple standing and teaching the people;'

26then the magistrate having gone away with officers, brought them without violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they should be stoned;

27and having brought them, they set [them] in the sanhedrim, and the chief priest questioned them,

28saying, 'Did not we strictly command you not to teach in this name? and lo, ye have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and ye intend to bring upon us the blood of this man.'

29And Peter and the apostles answering, said, 'To obey God it behoveth, rather than men;

30and the God of our fathers did raise up Jesus, whom ye slew, having hanged upon a tree;

31this one God, a Prince and a Saviour, hath exalted with His right hand, to give reformation to Israel, and forgiveness of sins;

32and we are His witnesses of these sayings, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying him.'

33And they having heard, were cut [to the heart], and were taking counsel to slay them,

34but a certain one, having risen up in the sanhedrim — a Pharisee, by name Gamaliel, a teacher of law honoured by all the people — commanded to put the apostles forth a little,

35and said unto them, 'Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves about these men, what ye are about to do,

36for before these days rose up Theudas, saying, that himself was some one, to whom a number of men did join themselves, as it were four hundred, who was slain, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered, and came to nought.

37'After this one rose up, Judas the Galilean, in the days of the enrolment, and drew away much people after him, and that one perished, and all, as many as were obeying him, were scattered;

38and now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone, because if this counsel or this work may be of men, it will be overthrown,

39and if it be of God, ye are not able to overthrow it, lest perhaps also ye be found fighting against God.'

40And to him they agreed, and having called near the apostles, having beaten [them], they commanded [them] not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go;

41they, indeed, then, departed from the presence of the sanhedrim, rejoicing that for his name they were counted worthy to suffer dishonour,

42every day also in the temple, and in every house, they were not ceasing teaching and proclaiming good news — Jesus the Christ.

A-na-nia và Sa-phi-ra

1Có một người tên A-na-nia, cùng với vợ là Sa-phi-ra đem bán tài sản mình.

2Ông đồng ý với vợ cất bớt một số tiền, rồi trao phần còn lại cho các sứ đồ.

3Nhưng Phi-e-rơ hỏi: “A-na-nia, sao anh để Sa-tan xâm chiếm tâm hồn, xui anh dối Chúa Thánh Linh, giữ lại một phần tiền bán đất?

4Khi chưa bán, đất đó chẳng phải thuộc quyền sở hữu của anh sao? Lúc bán rồi, anh vẫn có quyền sử dụng tiền đó. Tại sao anh âm mưu việc ác trong lòng? Đây không phải anh dối người, nhưng dối Đức Chúa Trời!”

5A-na-nia nghe xong liền ngã xuống, tắt thở. Người nào nghe tin ấy đều khiếp sợ.

6Các thanh niên đứng dậy khâm liệm xác A-na-nia, mang đi chôn.

7Độ ba giờ sau, vợ A-na-nia đến, không hay biết việc mới xảy ra.

8Phi-e-rơ hỏi: “Xin chị cho biết đây có phải tất cả số tiền bán đất không?” Chị đáp: “Thưa đúng, đó là tất cả tiền bán đất!”

9Phi-e-rơ nói: “Tại sao anh chị đồng lòng thách thức Thánh Linh của Chúa? Này, những người chôn chồng chị đã về đến ngoài cửa, họ cũng sẽ đem chị đi luôn!”

10Sa-phi-ra lập tức ngã nhào dưới chân Phi-e-rơ và tắt thở. Các thanh niên bước vào, thấy chị đã chết, liền đem ra mai táng bên chồng.

11Cả Hội Thánh đều kinh hãi. Người ngoài nghe chuyện đều khiếp sợ.

Các Sứ Đồ Chữa Lành Nhiều Người Bệnh

12Các sứ đồ làm nhiều phép lạ và việc kỳ diệu giữa dân chúng. Tất cả tín hữu đều đồng tâm hội họp tại Hành Lang Sa-lô-môn.

13Người ngoài không ai dám đến họp, dù mọi người đều kính phục những người theo Chúa.

14Dù vậy, càng ngày càng nhiều người nam và người nữ tin Chúa, và số tín hữu cứ tăng thêm.

15Người ta khiêng người bệnh ra đường, đặt trên giường hay trên đệm, để khi Phi-e-rơ đi qua, bóng ông cũng che được một số người.

16Dân chúng ở các thành gần Giê-ru-sa-lem cũng lũ lượt kéo đến, mang theo người bệnh và người bị quỷ ám, và tất cả đều được chữa lành.

Các Sứ Đồ Gặp Sự Chống Đối

17Thầy thượng tế và các phụ tá thuộc phái Sa-đu-sê vô cùng ghen ghét các sứ đồ.

18Họ bắt các sứ đồ giam vào ngục.

19Nhưng đêm ấy, một thiên sứ của Chúa mở cổng ngục đem họ ra, căn dặn:

20“Hãy vào Đền Thờ, công bố cho dân chúng nghe Lời Hằng Sống!”

21Tảng sáng, các sứ đồ vào Đền Thờ, như lời được dặn bảo, họ bắt đầu giảng dạy. Thầy thượng tế và các phụ tá đến, triệu tập Hội Đồng Quốc Gia, gồm toàn thể nhà lãnh đạo Ít-ra-ên. Họ ra lệnh giải các sứ đồ ra xét xử.

22Nhưng khi tuần cảnh vào ngục, không thấy họ đâu cả, liền trở về trình:

23“Chúng tôi thấy ngục thất khóa kỹ càng, lính canh gác ngoài cửa. Nhưng khi mở cửa ra, chúng tôi không thấy ai cả!”

24Viên chỉ huy đội tuần cảnh Đền Thờ và các thầy trưởng tế đều lúng túng, không biết xử trí thế nào.

25Ngay lúc ấy, có người đến báo: “Những người bị giam đã vào trong Đền Thờ, dạy dỗ dân chúng.”

26Viên chỉ huy và đội tuần cảnh Đền Thờ bắt giải các sứ đồ đi, nhưng không dám dùng bạo lực vì sợ dân chúng ném đá.

27Họ giải các sứ đồ ra trước Hội Đồng Quốc Gia, thầy thượng tế chất vấn:

28“Chúng ta đã truyền lệnh nghiêm cấm các anh nhân danh Người ấy giảng dạy, nhưng bây giờ đạo lý của các anh đã tràn ngập Giê-ru-sa-lem, các anh muốn bắt chúng ta chịu trách nhiệm về máu của Người ấy sao?”

29Nhưng Phi-e-rơ và các sứ đồ trả lời: “Chúng tôi phải vâng lời Đức Chúa Trời hơn vâng lời loài người.

30Đức Chúa Trời của tổ tiên chúng tôi đã khiến Chúa Giê-xu sống lại từ cõi chết sau khi các ông đã giết Ngài trên cây thập tự.

31Đức Chúa Trời đã đưa Ngài lên địa vị tột đỉnh, tôn Ngài làm Lãnh Tụ và Chúa Cứu Thế. Nhờ đó người Ít-ra-ên có cơ hội ăn năn và được tha tội.

32Chúng tôi là nhân chứng biết rõ việc ấy và Chúa Thánh Linh mà Đức Chúa Trời ban cho những người vâng lời Ngài cũng làm chứng với chúng tôi.”

33Nghe xong, các nhà lãnh đạo Do Thái vô cùng tức giận và định tâm giết các sứ đồ.

34Nhưng có một người Pha-ri-si, tên Ga-ma-li-ên, giáo sư dạy luật, được dân chúng kính trọng, từ hàng ghế hội đồng đứng lên, ra lệnh đem các sứ đồ ra ngoài trong chốc lát.

35Ông nói: “Thưa những đồng nghiệp Ít-ra-ên, xin quý vị thận trọng khi xét xử những người này!

36Trước đây, Thêu-đa nổi loạn, xưng hùng xưng bá, chiêu tập độ 400 người, nhưng hắn bị giết, tất cả bè đảng đều tan rã.

37Sau đó, Giu-đa ở Ga-li-lê nổi dậy vào thời kỳ kiểm kê dân số, kéo theo khá đông người, nhưng rồi hắn cũng chết và những người đi theo hắn bỏ chạy tan lạc.

38Cho nên, trường hợp những người này, tôi xin quý vị hãy tránh xa và để mặc họ. Vì nếu mưu lược và phong trào này do họ phát động, tự nó sẽ sụp đổ.

39Nhưng nếu là do Đức Chúa Trời, quý vị không thể tiêu diệt, trái lại, quý vị còn vô tình chiến đấu chống lại Đức Chúa Trời!”

40Họ nghe theo lời khuyên, cho giải các sứ đồ vào, sai đánh đòn. Họ nghiêm cấm không cho các sứ đồ nói đến Danh Chúa Giê-xu, rồi thả họ đi.

41Các sứ đồ được tự do ra về, vui mừng sung sướng vì được công nhận là người xứng đáng chịu sỉ nhục vì Danh Chúa Giê-xu.

42Mỗi ngày, họ cứ tiếp tục dạy dỗ và truyền giảng về “Chúa Giê-xu là Đấng Mết-si-a” tại Đền Thờ và trong nhà các tín hữu.
