Acts

1And as they are speaking unto the people, there came to them the priests, and the magistrate of the temple, and the Sadducees —

2being grieved because of their teaching the people, and preaching in Jesus the rising again out of the dead —

3and they laid hands upon them, and did put them in custody unto the morrow, for it was evening already;

4and many of those hearing the word did believe, and the number of the men became, as it were, five thousand.

5And it came to pass upon the morrow, there were gathered together of them the rulers, and elders, and scribes, to Jerusalem,

6and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the chief priest,

7and having set them in the midst, they were inquiring, 'In what power, or in what name did ye do this?'

8Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them: 'Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

9if we to-day are examined concerning the good deed to the ailing man, by whom he hath been saved,

10be it known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye did crucify, whom God did raise out of the dead, in him hath this one stood by before you whole.

11'This is the stone that was set at nought by you — the builders, that became head of a corner;

12and there is not salvation in any other, for there is no other name under the heaven that hath been given among men, in which it behoveth us to be saved.'

13And beholding the openness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are men unlettered and plebeian, they were wondering — they were taking knowledge also of them that with Jesus they had been —

14and seeing the man standing with them who hath been healed, they had nothing to say against [it],

15and having commanded them to go away out of the sanhedrim, they took counsel with one another,

16saying, 'What shall we do to these men? because that, indeed, a notable sign hath been done through them, to all those dwelling in Jerusalem [is] manifest, and we are not able to deny [it];

17but that it may spread no further toward the people, let us strictly threaten them no more to speak in this name to any man.'

18And having called them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus,

19and Peter and John answering unto them said, 'Whether it is righteous before God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge ye;

20for we cannot but speak what we did see and hear.'

21And they having further threatened [them], let them go, finding nothing how they may punish them, because of the people, because all were glorifying God for that which hath been done,

22for above forty years of age was the man upon whom had been done this sign of the healing.

23And being let go, they went unto their own friends, and declared whatever the chief priests and the elders said unto them,

24and they having heard, with one accord did lift up the voice unto God, and said, 'Lord, thou [art] God, who didst make the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all that [are] in them,

25who, through the mouth of David thy servant, did say, Why did nations rage, and peoples meditate vain things?

26the kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ;

27for gathered together of a truth against Thy holy child Jesus, whom Thou didst anoint, were both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with nations and peoples of Israel,

28to do whatever Thy hand and Thy counsel did determine before to come to pass.

29'And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and grant to Thy servants with all freedom to speak Thy word,

30in the stretching forth of Thy hand, for healing, and signs, and wonders, to come to pass through the name of Thy holy child Jesus.'

31And they having prayed, the place was shaken in which they were gathered together, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and were speaking the word of God with freedom,

32and of the multitude of those who did believe the heart and the soul was one, and not one was saying that anything of the things he had was his own, but all things were to them in common.

33And with great power were the apostles giving the testimony to the rising again of the Lord Jesus, great grace also was on them all,

34for there was not any one among them who did lack, for as many as were possessors of fields, or houses, selling [them], were bringing the prices of the thing sold,

35and were laying them at the feet of the apostles, and distribution was being made to each according as any one had need.

36And Joses, who was surnamed by the apostles Barnabas — which is, having been interpreted, Son of Comfort — a Levite, of Cyprus by birth,

37a field being his, having sold [it], brought the money and laid [it] at the feet of the apostles.

1Phi-e-rơ và Giăng đang nói với dân chúng, thì các thầy tế lễ, quan coi đền thờ, và người Sa-đu-sê thoạt đến,

2tức mình vì hai người dạy dân chúng và rao truyền, nhân Đức Chúa Jêsus, sự từ kẻ chết sống lại.

3Họ bắt hai người giam vào ngục cho đến bữa sau, vì bấy giờ đã tối rồi.

4Dầu vậy, có nhiều người đã nghe đạo thì tin, số tín đồ lên đến độ năm ngàn.

5Bữa sau, các quan, các trưởng lão, các thầy thông giáo nhóm tại thành Giê-ru-sa-lem,

6với An-ne, là thầy cả thượng phẩm, Cai phe, Giăng, A-léc-xan-đơ và hết thảy mọi người thuộc về họ thầy cả thượng phẩm.

7Họ bắt Phi-e-rơ và Giăng đến hầu trước mặt mình, và hỏi rằng: Bởi quyền phép nào hay là nhân danh ai mà các ngươi làm điều nầy?

8Bấy giờ Phi-e-rơ, đầy dẫy Đức Thánh Linh, nói rằng: Hỡi các quan và các trưởng lão,

9nếu ngày nay chúng tôi bị tra hỏi vì đã làm phước cho một người tàn tật, lại hỏi chúng tôi thể nào người đó được lành,

10thì hết thảy các ông, và cả dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đều khá biết, ấy là nhân danh Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ ở Na-xa-rét, Đấng mà các ông đã đóng đinh trên thập tự giá, và Đức Chúa Trời đã khiến từ kẻ chết sống lại, ấy là nhờ Ngài mà người nầy được lành mạnh hiện đứng trước mặt các ông.

11Jêsus nầy là hòn đá bị các ông xây nhà bỏ ra, rồi trở nên hòn đá góc nhà.

12Chẳng có sự cứu rỗi trong đấng nào khác; vì ở dưới trời, chẳng có danh nào khác ban cho loài người, để chúng ta phải nhờ đó mà được cứu.

13Khi chúng thấy sự dạn dĩ của Phi-e-rơ và Giăng, biết rõ rằng ấy là người dốt nát không học, thì đều lấy làm lạ; lại nhận biết hai người từng ở với Đức Chúa Jêsus.

14Nhưng vì thấy người được chữa lành đứng bên hai người, nên chúng không có lời gì để bẻ bác được hết.

15Chúng biểu hai người ra khỏi tòa công luận rồi, bèn bàn luận cùng nhau,

16rằng: Chúng ta xử với hai người nầy làm sao? Vì cả dân thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đều biết rõ thật họ đã làm ra một phép lạ sờ sờ; chúng ta chối không nổi.

17Dầu vậy, hầu cho việc khỏi đồn ra trong dân nữa, chúng ta nên lấy lời ngăm dọa, cấm họ, từ rày về sau, chớ lấy danh đó dạy dỗ không cứ là ai.

18Họ bèn đòi hai người vào, rồi cấm tiệt, chẳng cho nhân danh Đức Chúa Jêsus mà nói hay là dạy.

19Nhưng Phi-e-rơ và Giăng trả lời rằng: Chính các ông hãy suy xét, trước mặt Đức Chúa Trời có nên vâng lời các ông hơn là vâng lời Đức Chúa Trời chăng?

20Vì, về phần chúng tôi, không có thể chẳng nói về những điều mình đã thấy và nghe.

21Vậy, họ lại ngăm dọa hai người nữa, rồi tha ra, không tìm phương bắt tội, vì cớ dân chúng, bởi ai nấy đều ngợi khen Đức Chúa Trời về việc đã xảy ra.

22Vả, người đã nhờ phép lạ cho được chữa bịnh đó, là người đã hơn bốn mươi tuổi.

23Khi chúng đã tha ra, hai người đến cùng anh em mình, thuật lại mọi điều các thầy tế lễ cả và các trưởng lão đã nói.

24Mọi người nghe đoạn, thì một lòng cất tiếng lên cầu Đức Chúa Trời rằng: Lạy Chúa, là Đấng dựng nên trời, đất, biển, cùng muôn vật trong đó,

25và đã dùng Đức Thánh Linh, phán bởi miệng tổ phụ chúng tôi, tức là đầy tớ Ngài, là vua Đa-vít, rằng: Vì sao các dân nổi giận, Lại vì sao các nước lập mưu vô ích?

26Các vua trên mặt đất dấy lên, Các quan hiệp lại, Mà nghịch cùng Chúa và Đấng chịu xức dầu của Ngài...

27Vả, Hê-rốt và Bôn-xơ Phi-lát, với các dân ngoại, cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên thật đã nhóm họp tại thành nầy đặng nghịch cùng Đầy tớ thánh Ngài là Đức Chúa Jêsus mà Ngài đã xức dầu cho,

28để làm mọi việc tay Ngài và ý Ngài đã định trước.

29Nầy, xin Chúa xem xét sự họ ngăm dọa, và ban cho các đầy tớ Ngài rao giảng đạo Ngài một cách dạn dĩ,

30giơ tay Ngài ra, để nhờ danh Đầy tớ thánh của Ngài là Đức Chúa Jêsus, mà làm những phép chữa lành bịnh, phép lạ và dấu kỳ.

31Khi đã cầu nguyện, thì nơi nhóm lại rúng động; ai nấy đều được đầy dẫy Đức Thánh Linh, giảng đạo Đức Chúa Trời cách dạn dĩ.

32Vả, người tin theo đông lắm, cứ một lòng một ý cùng nhau. Chẳng ai kể của mình là của riêng; nhưng kể mọi vật là của chung cho nhau.

33Các sứ đồ lại lấy quyền phép rất lớn mà làm chứng về sự sống lại của Đức Chúa Jêsus Christ; và hết thảy đều được phước lớn.

34Vì trong tín đồ không ai thiếu thốn cả, bởi những người có ruộng hay nhà, đều bán đi, bán được bao nhiêu tiền cũng đem đến

35đặt dưới chân các sứ đồ; rồi tùy theo sự cần dùng của mỗi người mà phát cho.

36Vậy có Giô-sép mà các sứ đồ đặt tên là Ba-na-ba, nghĩa là con trai của sự yên ủi, về họ Lê-vi, quê hương tại Chíp-rơ,

37có một đám ruộng, bán đi, đem tiền đặt nơi chân các sứ đồ.
