1 Chronicles

1Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.

2The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

3The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.

4Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not, for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword and fell on it.

5When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword and died.

6So Saul died with his three sons; and all his house died together.

7When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.

8On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

9They stripped him and took his head and his armor, then sent into the land of the Philistines all around to carry the news to their idols and to the people.

10They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

11When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

12all the valiant men arose and took away the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

13So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the LORD’s word, which he didn’t keep, and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire,

14and didn’t inquire of the LORD. Therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

Vua Sau-lơ Qua Đời

1Khi quân Phi-li-tin tấn công Ít-ra-ên, một số người Ít-ra-ên bỏ chạy, một số khác bị giết trên Núi Ghinh-bô-a.

2Quân Phi-li-tin đuổi theo Sau-lơ, giết ba con ông là Giô-na-than, A-bi-na-đáp và Manh-ki-sua.

3Thế trận càng gay cấn khi Sau-lơ bị các xạ thủ địch đuổi bắn. Vua bị trúng tên và bị thương.

4Sau-lơ nói với người vác khí giới cho mình: “Lấy gươm giết ta đi, đừng để những người vô tín kia đâm chém, hành hạ ta.” Nhưng người ấy sợ, không dám giết. Sau-lơ dựng gươm lên rồi sấn mình trên lưỡi gươm.

5Khi người vác khí giới của Sau-lơ thấy vua chết rồi, cũng sấn mình trên gươm tự sát.

6Như vậy Sau-lơ cùng ba con, và tất cả người nhà đều chết chung, chấm dứt triều đại của ông.

7Người Ít-ra-ên ở dưới thung lũng thấy quân mình thua chạy, Sau-lơ và ba con trai đã chết, liền bỏ thành trốn đi. Người Phi-li-tin chiếm các thành ấy.

8Hôm sau, người Phi-li-tin trở lại chiến trường để vơ vét đồ đạc của những người tử trận. Họ thấy xác Sau-lơ và các con nằm trên Núi Ghinh-bô-a.

9Họ lột binh giáp của Sau-lơ và chém đầu ông. Rồi họ sai sứ giả đi khắp xứ Phi-li-tin loan tin cho các thần tượng và dân chúng.

10Họ đặt bộ giáp của Sau-lơ trong miếu thần, và treo đầu vua trong đền Đa-gôn.

11Khi người ở Gia-be Ga-la-át nghe những điều người Phi-li-tin đã làm với Sau-lơ,

12những chiến sĩ dũng cảm của họ đi thu xác Sau-lơ và các con vua đem về Gia-be. Rồi họ chôn dưới cây sồi, và kiêng ăn bảy ngày.

13Vậy, Sau-lơ chết vì không trung thành với Chúa Hằng Hữu. Ông bất tuân lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu. Ngoài ra, vua còn có tội cầu hỏi đồng bóng

14chứ không cầu hỏi Chúa Hằng Hữu. Vì thế, Chúa Hằng Hữu khiến ông chết và trao đất nước cho Đa-vít, con của Gie-sê.
