Được Giải Thoát Khỏi Luật Pháp

1Thưa anh chị em—là những người đã thông hiểu luật pháp—anh chị em không biết luật pháp chỉ có hiệu lực đối với con người khi còn sống sao?

2Ví dụ người phụ nữ có chồng, luật pháp ràng buộc nàng với chồng suốt thời gian chồng còn sống. Nhưng sau khi chồng chết, theo luật pháp nàng không còn bị ràng buộc với chồng nữa.

3Nếu lấy người khác khi chồng còn sống, là phạm tội ngoại tình. Nhưng khi chồng chết, nàng có quyền lấy chồng khác và luật pháp không còn ràng buộc hay lên án.

4Thưa anh chị em, trường hợp anh chị em cũng thế. Đối với luật pháp, anh chị em đã chết trên cây thập tự với Chúa Cứu Thế. Ngày nay anh chị em thuộc về Đấng đã sống lại từ cõi chết. Nhờ đó, anh chị em kết quả tốt đẹp cho Đức Chúa Trời.

5Khi chúng ta còn sống theo bản tính cũ, những ham muốn tội lỗi do luật pháp khích động, đã hoành hành trong thể xác, kết quả là cái chết.

6Ngày nay, chúng ta được giải thoát khỏi sự trói buộc của luật pháp, vì đối với luật pháp chúng ta đã chết, để được tự do phục vụ Đức Chúa Trời theo cách mới của Thánh Linh, chứ không theo lối cũ của luật pháp.

Luật Pháp của Đức Chúa Trời Phơi Bày Tội Lỗi Chúng Ta

7Nói thế, có phải luật pháp là tội lỗi không? Tuyệt đối không! Luật pháp không phải là tội nhưng dạy tôi biết điều gì là tội. Tôi không biết tham muốn là tội, nếu luật pháp không dạy: “Con đừng tham muốn.”

8Nhưng tội lỗi lợi dụng điều răn này để đánh thức mọi thứ tham muốn xấu xa dồn ép trong tôi. Vậy tội lỗi sẽ chết nếu không có luật pháp.

9Khi chưa có luật pháp, tôi sống, nhưng khi có luật pháp rồi, quyền lực tội lỗi sống,

10và tôi chết. Tôi nhận thấy đáng lẽ điều răn chỉ dẫn con đường sống, lại đưa tôi vào cõi chết.

11Vì tội lỗi đã lợi dụng điều răn để lừa dối tôi, và nhân đó giết tôi.

12Vậy, luật pháp là thánh, điều răn cũng là thánh, đúng và tốt.

13Có thể như thế sao? Lẽ nào luật pháp, là điều tốt lại giết chết tôi? Không bao giờ! Tội lỗi đã để lộ thực chất của nó khi mượn điều tốt đưa tôi vào cõi chết. Tội lỗi thật hiểm độc. Nó lợi dụng điều răn của Đức Chúa Trời cho mục đích gian ác.

Tranh Chiến với Tội Lỗi

14Chúng ta biết luật pháp vốn linh thiêng—còn chúng ta chỉ là người trần tục, làm nô lệ cho tội lỗi.

15Tôi không hiểu nổi hành động của mình, vì tôi không làm điều mình muốn, nhưng làm điều mình ghét.

16Khi làm điều mình không muốn, trong thâm tâm tôi đồng ý với luật pháp, nhìn nhận luật pháp là đúng.

17Như thế không phải chính tôi làm sai, nhưng tội lỗi chủ động trong tôi làm điều ấy.

18Tôi biết chẳng có điều gì tốt trong tôi cả, tôi muốn nói về bản tính tội lỗicủa tôi. Dù tôi ước muốn làm điều tốt, nhưng không thể nào thực hiện.

19Tôi chẳng làm điều tốt mình muốn, lại làm điều xấu mình không muốn.

20Khi tôi làm điều mình không muốn, không phải chính tôi làm nữa, nhưng tội lỗi chủ động trong tôi.

21Do đó, tôi khám phá ra luật này: Khi muốn làm điều tốt, tôi lại làm điều xấu.

22Dù trong thâm tâm, tôi vẫn yêu thích luật Đức Chúa Trời.

23Nhưng có một luật khác trong thể xác tranh đấu với luật trong tâm trí, buộc tôi phục tùng luật tội lỗi đang chi phối thể xác tôi.

24Ôi, thật bất hạnh cho tôi! Ai sẽ giải thoát tôi khỏi ách nô lệ của tội lỗi và sự chết?

25Tạ ơn Đức Chúa Trời! Tôi được giải cứu nhờ Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu, Chúa chúng ta. Như vậy, vì tâm trí tôi tuân theo luật pháp của Đức Chúa Trời, nhưng vì bản tính tội lỗimà tôi nô lệ tội lỗi.

1Know you not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) that the law hath dominion over a man, as long as it liveth?

2For the woman that hath an husband, whilst her husband liveth is bound to the law. But if her husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

3Therefore, whilst her husband liveth, she shall be called an adulteress, if she be with another man: but if her husband be dead, she is delivered from the law of her husband; so that she is not an adulteress, if she be with another man.

4Therefore, my brethren, you also are become dead to the law, by the body of Christ; that you may belong to another, who is risen again from the dead, that we may bring forth fruit to God.

5For when we were in the flesh, the passions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members, to bring forth fruit unto death.

6But now we are loosed from the law of death, wherein we were detained; so that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

7What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? God forbid. But I do not know sin, but by the law; for I had not known concupiscence, if the law did not say: Thou shalt not covet.

8But sin taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

9And I lived some time without the law. But when the commandment came, sin revived,

10And I died. And the commandment that was ordained to life, the same was found to be unto death to me.

11For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, seduced me, and by it killed me.

12Wherefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

13Was that then which is good, made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it may appear sin, by that which is good, wrought death in me; that sin, by the commandment, might become sinful above measure.

14For we know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin.

15For that which I work, I understand not. For I do not that good which I will; but the evil which I hate, that I do.

16If then I do that which I will not, I consent to the law, that it is good.

17Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

18For I know that there dwelleth not in me, that is to say, in my flesh, that which is good. For to will, is present with me; but to accomplish that which is good, I find not.

19For the good which I will, I do not; but the evil which I will not, that I do.

20Now if I do that which I will not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21I find then a law, that when I have a will to do good, evil is present with me.

22For I am delighted with the law of God, according to the inward man:

23But I see another law in my members, fighting against the law of my mind, and captivating me in the law of sin, that is in my members.

24Unhappy man that I am, who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25The grace of God, by Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore, I myself, with the mind serve the law of God; but with the flesh, the law of sin.
