Ít-ra-ên Đánh Bại Các Đội Quân Miền Bắc

1Khi Gia-bin, vua Hát-so, nghe các tin này, liền liên minh với các vua sau đây: Vua Giô-báp ở Ma-đôn, vua Sim-rôn, vua Ạc-sáp,

2các vua miền núi phía bắc, các vua miền đồng bằng phía nam Ki-nê-rết, miền thung lũng và miền biên giới Đô-rơ ở phía tây,

3các vua Ca-na-an ở miền đông và miền tây, các vua A-mô-rít, Hê-tít, Phê-rết, vua Giê-bu ở miền núi, vua Hê-vi ở chân Núi Hẹt-môn trong xứ Mích-pa.

4Các vua này động viên toàn lực—chiến sĩ, chiến xa và chiến mã—kéo ra đông như cát biển.

5Họ liên minh với nhau, đem quân đến đóng ở các dòng nước Mê-rôm để tranh chiến với Ít-ra-ên.

6Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Giô-suê: “Đừng sợ họ. Vì ngày mai, vào giờ này, họ đều là những xác không hồn. Con phải cắt nhượng chân ngựa và đốt xe của chúng.”

7Giô-suê liền đem toàn lực đến tấn công bất ngờ gần Mê-rôm.

8Chúa Hằng Hữu nạp tính mạng quân thù vào tay Ít-ra-ên; họ chém giết một phần, đuổi theo phần còn lại cho đến Si-đôn Lớn, Mít-rê-phốt Ma-im, và thung lũng Mích-pê ở phía đông, rồi giết không để thoát một ai.

9Theo lệnh Chúa Hằng Hữu, Giô-suê cho cắt nhượng chân ngựa và thiêu hủy xe của chúng.

10Giô-suê quay về chiếm Hát-so, và giết Vua Gia-bin. (Hát-so vốn là kinh đô của các vương quốc kia.)

11Người Ít-ra-ên giết tất cả dân trong thành, không để một vật có hơi thở nào còn sống sót, và Giô-suê đốt thành.

12Giô-suê cũng chiếm và tàn phá thành của các vua kia, giết hết các vua ấy theo đúng lệnh Môi-se, đầy tớ Chúa đã truyền.

13Nhưng Giô-suê không đốt những thành xây trên đồi, trừ thành Hát-so.

14Người Ít-ra-ên tịch thu chiến lợi phẩm, kể cả súc vật, và tàn sát dân các thành ấy.

15Tất cả những điều Chúa Hằng Hữu phán dặn Môi-se, đầy tớ Ngài, đều được Môi-se truyền lại cho Giô-suê, và Giô-suê nghiêm chỉnh thi hành.

16Vậy Giô-suê chinh phục toàn vùng đất hứa gồm miền cao nguyên, đất Gô-sen và Nê-ghép, miền thung lũng, miền đồng bằng, vùng núi đồi và thung lũng Ít-ra-ên;

17từ núi Ha-lác đối diện Sê-i-rơ, đến Ba-anh Gát trong thung lũng Li-ban, dưới chân núi Hẹt-môn. Tất cả vua của các miền này đều bị hạ sát.

18Giô-suê phải mất một thời gian khá dài để tiêu diệt chúng.

19Ngoại trừ thành Ga-ba-ôn của người Hê-vi, các thành khác đều bị Ít-ra-ên chinh phục bằng quân lực, không bằng hòa ước.

20Vì Chúa Hằng Hữu khiến cho các dân tộc ấy trở nên ngoan cố, quyết định chiến đấu với Ít-ra-ên, và Ít-ra-ên có dịp tận diệt họ như lời Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Môi-se.

21Đồng thời, Giô-suê cũng chinh phạt người A-na-kim trên các đồi núi Hếp-rôn, Đê-bia, A-náp, Giu-đa và Ít-ra-ên.

22Ngoại trừ một số ít còn sót ở Ga-xa, Gát, và Ách-đốt, người A-na-kim và thành trì của họ nằm trong lãnh thổ Ít-ra-ên đều bị tiêu diệt.

23Như thế, Giô-suê chiếm toàn lãnh thổ, thực hiện lời Chúa Hằng Hữu hứa với Môi-se. Ông đem đất chia cho người Ít-ra-ên, mỗi đại tộc chiếm một vùng. Trong khắp vùng, chiến tranh không còn nữa.

1And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

2And to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west,

3And to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.

4And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

5And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.

6¶ And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

7So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.

8And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

9And Joshua did unto them as the LORD bade him: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

10¶ And Joshua at that time turned back, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

11And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

12And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.

13But as for the cities that stood still in their strength, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.

14And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe.

15¶ As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.

16So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;

17Even from the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them.

18Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

19There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle.

20For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD commanded Moses.

21¶ And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.

22There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.

23So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
