1Vào thời ĐỨC CHÚA đem ông Ê-li-a lên trời trong cơn gió lốc, ông Ê-li-a và ông Ê-li-sa rời Ghin-gan.

2Ông Ê-li-a nói với ông Ê-li-sa : “Xin anh ở lại đây, vì ĐỨC CHÚA sai thầy đến Bết Ên.” Nhưng ông Ê-li-sa thưa : “Có ĐỨC CHÚA hằng sống và có thầy đang sống đây, con xin thề sẽ không bỏ thầy !” Rồi các ông đi xuống Bết Ên.

3Các anh em ngôn sứ ở Bết Ên ra gặp ông Ê-li-sa và nói : “Ông có biết không, hôm nay ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ đem thầy của ông lên cao ngay trên đầu ông ?” Ông nói : “Tôi cũng biết chứ, im đi !”

4Ông Ê-li-a bảo ông : “Này Ê-li-sa, xin anh ở lại đây, vì ĐỨC CHÚA sai thầy đi Giê-ri-khô.” Nhưng ông Ê-li-sa thưa : “Có ĐỨC CHÚA hằng sống và có thầy đang sống đây, con xin thề sẽ không bỏ thầy !” Và các ông đã đến Giê-ri-khô.

5Các anh em ngôn sứ ở Giê-ri-khô đến gần ông Ê-li-sa và nói : “Ông có biết không, hôm nay ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ đem thầy của ông lên cao, ngay trên đầu ông ?” Ông nói : “Tôi cũng biết chứ, im đi !”

6Ông Ê-li-a bảo : “Xin anh ở lại đây, vì ĐỨC CHÚA sai thầy đến sông Gio-đan.” Nhưng ông thưa : “Có ĐỨC CHÚA hằng sống và có thầy đang sống đây, con xin thề sẽ không bỏ thầy !” Rồi cả hai ông cùng đi.

7Năm mươi anh em ngôn sứ cũng đi, đứng ở đằng xa, phía trước hai ông, còn hai ông thì đứng bên bờ sông Gio-đan.

8Ông Ê-li-a lấy áo choàng của mình, cuộn lại mà đập xuống nước. Nước rẽ ra hai bên. Hai ông đã đi qua ráo chân.

9Vậy, khi đã đi qua, ông Ê-li-a nói với ông Ê-li-sa : “Anh cứ xin đi : thầy có thể làm gì cho anh trước khi thầy được đem đi, rời xa anh ?” Ông Ê-li-sa nói : “Xin cho con được hai phần thần khí của thầy !”

10Ông Ê-li-a đáp : “Anh xin một điều khó đấy ! Nếu anh thấy thầy khi thầy được đem đi, rời xa anh, thì sẽ được như thế ; bằng không, thì không được.”

11Các ông còn đang vừa đi vừa nói, thì này một cỗ xe đỏ như lửa và những con ngựa đỏ như lửa tách hai người ra. Và ông Ê-li-a lên trời trong cơn gió lốc.

12Thấy thế, ông Ê-li-sa kêu lên : “Cha ơi ! Cha ơi ! Hỡi chiến xa và chiến mã của Ít-ra-en !” Rồi ông không thấy thầy mình nữa. Ông túm lấy áo mình và xé ra làm hai mảnh.

13Ông lượm lấy áo choàng của ông Ê-li-a rơi xuống. Ông trở về và đứng bên bờ sông Gio-đan.

14Ông lấy áo choàng của ông Ê-li-a đã rơi xuống mà đập xuống nước và nói : “ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của ông Ê-li-a ở đâu ?” Ông đập xuống nước, nước rẽ ra hai bên, và ông Ê-li-sa đi qua.

15Các anh em ngôn sứ Giê-ri-khô thấy ông ở đằng xa thì nói : “Thần khí của ông Ê-li-a đã ngự xuống trên ông Ê-li-sa.” Họ đến đón ông và sụp xuống đất lạy ông.

16Họ thưa ông : “Tại đây có năm mươi người dũng cảm đang ở với các tôi tớ ngài. Xin cho phép họ đi tìm thầy của ngài. Biết đâu thần khí của ĐỨC CHÚA đã chẳng đem người đi, rồi thả xuống một ngọn núi hay một thung lũng nào đó” ; nhưng ông nói : “Đừng sai ai đi cả !”

17Họ cứ một mực nài ép ông, nên ông bảo : “Thì cứ sai đi !” Họ sai năm mươi người đi kiếm suốt ba ngày, nhưng không tìm thấy ông Ê-li-a.

18Họ trở về với ông. Ông đang ở Giê-ri-khô, ông nói với họ : “Tôi đã chẳng bảo các anh là đừng đi đó sao ?”

19Người trong thành nói với ông Ê-li-sa : “Như ngài thấy đó, địa thế của thành thì tốt, nhưng nước thì độc và xứ sở bị nạn vô sinh.”

20Ông Ê-li-sa bảo : “Lấy cho tôi một cái tô mới và bỏ muối vào đó.” Họ đi lấy cho ông.

21Ông đi ra suối nước, đổ muối xuống và nói : “ĐỨC CHÚA phán thế này : Ta làm cho nước hoá lành, và nước này sẽ không còn gây chết chóc và nạn vô sinh nữa.”

22Và nước hoá lành cho đến ngày nay, theo lời ông Ê-li-sa đã nói.

23Ông rời nơi đó lên Bết Ên. Và khi ông đi lên, thì dọc đường có những trẻ con từ thành đi ra, chúng nhạo ông và nói : “Lên đi, ông hói đầu ơi ! Lên đi, ông hói đầu ơi !”

24Ông quay lại, và khi thấy chúng thì nguyền rủa chúng nhân danh ĐỨC CHÚA. Bấy giờ, có hai con gấu từ trong rừng đi ra và xé xác bốn mươi hai đứa trẻ.

25Từ nơi đó, ông đi tới núi Các-men, rồi trở lại Sa-ma-ri.

Elijah Taken Up to Heaven

1Shortly before the LORD took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal,

2and Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to Bethel.” But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

3Then the sons of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you today?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”

4And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to Jericho.” But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.

5Then the sons of the prophets at Jericho came up to Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you today?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”

6And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to the Jordan.” But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on.

7Then a company of fifty of the sons of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing Elijah and Elisha as the two of them stood by the Jordan.

8And Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up, and struck the waters, which parted to the right and to the left, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

9After they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken away from you?” “Please, let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.

10“You have requested a difficult thing,” said Elijah. “Nevertheless, if you see me as I am taken from you, it will be yours. But if not, then it will not be so.”

11As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire with horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up into heaven in a whirlwind.

12As Elisha watched, he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And he saw Elijah no more. So taking hold of his own clothes, he tore them in two.

13Elisha also picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah, and he went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.

14Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the waters. “Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” he asked. And when he had struck the waters, they parted to the right and to the left, and Elisha crossed over.

Elisha Succeeds Elijah

15When the sons of the prophets who were watching him from Jericho saw what had happened, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed down to the ground before him.

16“Look now,” they said to Elisha, “we your servants have fifty valiant men. Please let them go and search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not send them,” Elisha replied.

17But when they pressed him to the point of embarrassment, he said, “Send them.” And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find Elijah.

18When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you not to go?”

Elisha Heals the Waters of Jericho

19Then the men of the city said to Elisha, “Please note, our lord, that the city’s location is good, as you can see. But the water is bad and the land is unfruitful.”

20“Bring me a new bowl,” he replied, “and put some salt in it.” So they brought it to him,

21and Elisha went out to the spring, cast the salt into it, and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘I have healed this water. No longer will it cause death or unfruitfulness.’”

22And the waters there have been healthy to this day, according to the word spoken by Elisha.

Elisha Mocked

23From there, Elisha went up to Bethel, and as he was walking up the road, a group of boyscame out of the city and jeered at him, chanting, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!”

24Then he turned around, looked at them, and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Suddenly two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.

25And Elisha went on to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
