Isaiah

1In that day shall this canticle be sung the land of Juda. Sion the city of our strength a saviour, a wall and a bulwark shall be set therein.

2Open ye the gates, and let the just nation, that keepeth the truth, enter in.

3The old error is passed away: thou wilt keep peace: peace, because we have hoped in thee.

4You have hoped in the Lord for evermore, in the Lord God mighty for ever.

5For he shall bring down them that dwell on high, the high city he shall lay low. He shall bring it down even to the ground, he shall pull it down even to the dust.

6The foot shall tread it down, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.

7The way of the just is right, the path of the just is right to walk in.

8And in the way of thy judgments, O Lord, we have patiently waited for thee: thy name, and thy remembrance are the desire of the soul.

9My soul hath desired thee in the night: yea, and with my spirit within me in the morning early I will watch to thee. When thou shalt do thy judgments on the earth, the inhabitants of the world shall learn justice.

10Let us have pity on the wicked, but he will not learn justice: in the land of the saints he hath done wicked things, and he shall not see the glory of the Lord.

11Lord, let thy hand be exalted, and let them not see: let the envious people see, and be confounded: and let fire devour thy enemies.

12Lord, thou wilt give us peace: for thou hast wrought all our works for us.

13O Lord our God, other lords besides thee have had dominion over us, only in thee let us remember thy name.

14Let not the dead live, let not the giants rise again: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and best destroyed all their memory.

15Thou hast been favourable to the nation, O Lord, thou hast been favourable to the nation: art thou glorified? thou hast removed all the ends of the earth far off.

16Lord, they have sought after thee in distress, in the tribulation of murmuring thy instruction was with them.

17As a woman with child, when she draweth near the time of her delivery, is in pain, and crieth out in her pangs: so are we become in thy presence, O Lord.

18We have conceived, and been as it were in labour, and have brought forth wind: we have not wrought salvation on the earth, therefore the inhabitants of the earth have not fallen.

19Thy dead men shall live, my slain shall rise again: awake, and give praise, ye that dwell in the dust: for thy dew is the dew of the light: and the land of the giants thou shalt pull down into ruin.

20Go, my people, enter into thy chambers, shut thy doors upon thee, hide thyself a little for a moment, until the indignation pass away.

21For behold the Lord will come out of his place, to visit the iniquity of the inhabitant of the earth against him: and the earth shall disclose her blood, and shall cover her slain no more.

1Trong ngày đó, tại xứ Giu-đa, người ta sẽ hát bài nầy: Chúng ta có thành bền vững! Chúa lấy sự cứu làm tường làm lũy!

2Hãy mở các cửa, cho dân công bình trung tín vào đó!

3Người nào để trí mình nương dựa nơi Ngài, thì Ngài sẽ gìn giữ người trong sự bình yên trọn vẹn, vì người nhờ cậy Ngài.

4Hãy nhờ cậy Đức Giê-hô-va đời đời, vì Đức Giê-hô-va, chính Đức Giê-hô-va, là vầng đá của các thời đại!

5Ngài đã dằn những người ở nơi cao; đã phá đổ thành cao ngất, hạ xuống tới đất, sa vào bụi bặm,

6bị giày đạp dưới chân, bị bàn chân kẻ nghèo nàn, thiếu thốn bước lên trên và nghiền nát.

7Đường của người công bình là ngay thẳng; Ngài là Đấng ngay thẳng ban bằng đường của người công bình.

8Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, thật chúng tôi đứng trên đường phán xét mà trông đợi Ngài; danh Ngài, là sự ghi nhớ Ngài, vốn là sự ao ước của linh hồn chúng tôi.

9Đang ban đêm, linh hồn tôi đã ao ước Ngài; phải, thần linh trong tôi sẽ thiết tha tìm Ngài; vì khi những sự phán xét Ngài làm ra trên đất, dân cư của thế gian đều học sự công bình.

10Kẻ ác dầu có được ơn, cũng chẳng học sự công bình; song nó sẽ làm điều ác trong đất ngay thẳng, và không nhìn xem uy nghiêm của Đức Giê-hô-va.

11Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, tay Ngài đã giá lên, mà chúng nó chẳng xem thấy, song chúng nó sẽ thấy, và sẽ xấu hổ bởi cớ lòng sốt sắng Ngài tỏ ra vì dân mình. Lửa sẽ đốt cháy kẻ thù nghịch Ngài.

12Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, Ngài sẽ lập sự bình an cho chúng tôi; vì mọi điều chúng tôi làm, ấy là Ngài làm cho!

13Hỡi Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, ngoài Ngài từng có chủ khác cai trị chúng tôi, nay chúng tôi chỉ cậy một mình Ngài mà kêu cầu danh Ngài.

14Họ đã chết, sẽ không sống nữa, đã thành âm hồn không dậy nữa: vì Ngài đã phạt và diệt họ, cho đến sự ghi nhớ họ, Ngài cũng làm ra hư không.

15Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, Ngài đã thêm dân nầy lên, phải, Ngài đã thêm dân nầy lên. Ngài đã được vinh hiển, đã mở mang bờ cõi đất nầy.

16Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, họ đã tìm kiếm Ngài trong lúc ngặt nghèo, kêu cầu Ngài khi Ngài sửa phạt họ.

17Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, chúng tôi ở trước mặt Ngài khác nào như đàn bà có thai gần đẻ, đang đau đớn kêu rêu vì quặn thắt.

18Chúng tôi đã có mang, đã ở cữ, và đẻ ra như gió, chẳng làm sự cứu trong trái đất, cũng chẳng sanh ra dân ở trong thế gian.

19Những kẻ chết của Ngài sẽ sống, những xác chết của tôi đều chổi dậy! Hỡi kẻ ở trong bụi đất, hãy thức dậy, hãy hát! Vì hột móc của Ngài như hột móc lúc hừng đông, đất sẽ buông các âm hồn ra khỏi.

20Hỡi dân ta, hãy đến vào buồng và đóng cửa lại. Hãy ẩn mình một lát, cho đến chừng nào cơn giận đã qua.

21Vì nầy, Đức Giê-hô-va từ nơi Ngài, đặng phạt dân cư trên đất vì tội ác họ. Bấy giờ đất sẽ tỏ bày huyết nó ra, và không che-đậy những kẻ đã bị giết nữa.
