1Then all Israel gathered themselves to David in Hebron, saying: We are thy bone, and thy flesh.

2Yesterday also, and the day before when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: for the Lord thy God said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt; be ruler over them.

3So all the ancients of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and David made a covenant with them before the Lord: and they anointed him king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke in the hand of Samuel.

4And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus, where the Jebusites were the inhabitants of the land.

5And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David: Thou shalt not come in here. But David took the castle of Sion, which is the city of David.

6And he said: Whosoever shall first strike the Jebusites, shall be the head and chief captain. And Joab the son of Sarvia went up first, and was made the general.

7And David dwelt in the castle, and therefore it was called the city of David.

8And he built the city round about from Mello all round, and Joab built the rest of the city.

9And David went on growing and increasing, and the Lord of hosts was with him.

10These are the chief of the valiant men of David, who helped him to be made king over all Israel, according to the word of the Lord, which he spoke to Israel.

11And this is the number of the heroes of David: Jesbaam the son of Hachamoni the chief among the thirty: he lifted up his spear against three hundred wounded by him at one time.

12And after him was Eleazar his uncle’s son the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.

13He was with David in Phesdomim, when the Philistines were gathered to that place to battle: and the field of that country was full of barley, and the people fled from before the Philistines.

14But these men stood in the midst of the field, and defended it: and they slew the Philistines, and the Lord gave a great deliverance to his people.

15And three of the thirty captains went down to the rock, wherein David was, to the cave of Odollam, when the Philistines encamped in the valley of Raphaim.

16And David was in a hold, and the garrison of the Philistines in Bethlehem.

17And David longed, and said: O that some man would give me water of the cistern of Bethlehem, which is in the gate.

18And these three broke through the midst of the camp of the Philistines, and drew water out of the cistern of Bethlehem, which was in the gate, and brought it to David to drink: and he would not drink of it, but rather offered it to the Lord,

19Saying: God forbid that I should do this in the sight of my God, and should drink the blood of these men: for with the danger of their lives they have brought me the water. And therefore he would not drink. These things did the three most valiant.

20And Abisai the brother of Joab, he was chief of three, and he lifted up his spear against three hundred whom he slew, and he was renowned among the three,

21And illustrious among the second three, and their captain: but yet he attained not to the first three.

22Banaias the son of Joiada, a most valiant man, of Cabseel, who had done many acts: he slew the two ariels of Moab: and he went down, and killed a lion in the midst of a pit in the time of snow.

23And he slew an Egyptian, whose stature was of five cubits, and who had a spear like a weaver’s beam: and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked away the spear, that he held in his hand, and slew him with his own spear.

24These things did Banaias the son of Joiada, who was renowned among the three valiant ones,

25And the first among the thirty, but yet to the three he attained not: and David made him of his council.

26Moreover the most valiant men of the army, were Asahel brother of Joab, and Elchanan the son of his uncle of Bethlehem,

27Sammoth an Arorite, Helles a Phalonite,

28Ira the son of Acces a Thecuite, Abiezer an Anathothite,

29Sobbochai a Husathite, Ilai an Ahohite,

30Maharai a Netophathite, Heled the son of Baana a Netophathite,

31Ethai the son of Ribai of Gabaath of the sons of Benjamin, Banal a Pharathonite,

32Hurai of the torrent Gaas, Abiel an Arbathite, Azmoth a Bauramite, Eliaba a Salabonite,

33The sons of Assem a, Gezonite, Jonathan the son of Sage an Ararite,

34Ahiam the son of Sachar an Ararite,

35Eliphal the son of Ur,

36Hepher a Mecherathite, Ahia a Phelonite,

37Hesro a Carmelite, Naarai the son of Azbai,

38Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibahar the son of Agarai.

39Selec an Ammonite, Naharai a Berothite, the armourbearer of Joab the son of Sarvia.

40Ira a Jethrite, Gareb a Jethrite,

43Hanan the son of Maacha, and Josaphat a Mathanite,

3Toàn thể kỳ mục Ít-ra-en đến gặp vua tại Khép-rôn và vua Đa-vít đã lập giao ước với họ tại Khép-rôn trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA. Rồi họ xức dầu tấn phong Đa-vít làm vua Ít-ra-en như lời ĐỨC CHÚA đã dùng ông Sa-mu-en mà phán.

4Vua Đa-vít cùng toàn thể Ít-ra-en tiến về Giê-ru-sa-lem – tức là Giơ-vút ; dân bản xứ ở đây là người Giơ-vút.

5Dân cư Giơ-vút nói với vua Đa-vít : “Ông sẽ không vào đây được.” Nhưng vua Đa-vít đã chiếm được đồn luỹ Xi-on, đó là Thành vua Đa-vít.

6Vua Đa-vít đã nói : “Bất cứ ai là người đầu tiên giết được người Giơ-vút, người ấy sẽ được làm thủ lãnh, làm nguyên soái.” Ông Giô-áp con bà Xơ-ru-gia là người đầu tiên đã lên được, nên ông đã trở thành thủ lãnh.

7Vua Đa-vít đóng tại đồn luỹ đó, nên người ta gọi là Thành vua Đa-vít.

8Rồi vua xây cất bốn mặt thành, từ công trình Mi-lô cho tới hoàng cung, còn ông Giô-áp thì tu bổ phần còn lại.

9Vua Đa-vít ngày càng thêm mạnh thế, vì ĐỨC CHÚA các đạo binh ở với vua.

10Đây là những người chỉ huy các dũng sĩ của vua Đa-vít, những người đã cùng vua nên mạnh thế trong triều đại của vua, và đã cùng toàn thể Ít-ra-en củng cố vương quyền của vua, như lời ĐỨC CHÚA phán về Ít-ra-en.

11Ông Gia-sóp-am, con ông Khác-mô-ni, đứng đầu Bộ Ba. Chính ông là người đã vung đao giết một lúc ba trăm mạng.

12Kế đến là ông E-la-da, con ông Đô-đô, người A-khô-ác. Ông là một trong ba dũng sĩ.

13Chính ông đã ở bên vua Đa-vít tại Pát Đam-mim, khi quân Phi-li-tinh tụ tập ở đấy để giao tranh. Đây là một cánh đồng lúa mạch. Dân quân bỏ trốn bọn Phi-li-tinh,

14nhưng các ông đã đứng giữa cánh đồng để bảo vệ thửa đất và đánh giết quân Phi-li-tinh. ĐỨC CHÚA đã thực hiện một cuộc chiến thắng lẫy lừng.

15Trong Nhóm Ba Mươi, ba người đã xuống gặp vua Đa-vít tại tảng đá cạnh hang A-đu-lam đang khi có đạo quân Phi-li-tinh đóng tại thung lũng người Ra-pha.

16Bấy giờ vua Đa-vít đang ở nơi ẩn náu và tại Bê-lem bấy giờ có một đồn quân Phi-li-tinh.

17Vua Đa-vít ước ao và nói : “Phải chi có ai cho ta uống nước lấy ở giếng tại cổng thành Bê-lem !”

18Bộ Ba đã đột nhập trại Phi-li-tinh, lấy nước ở giếng tại cổng thành Bê-lem, đưa về cho vua Đa-vít. Vua Đa-vít không muốn uống mà đổ nước ấy làm lễ rưới dâng ĐỨC CHÚA.

19Vua nói : “Xin Thiên Chúa đừng để ta làm điều ấy ! Nỡ nào ta uống máu những người đã liều mạng đưa nước về đây”. Vậy vua đã không muốn uống nước. Đó là việc ba dũng sĩ đã làm.

20Ông Áp-sai, em ông Giô-áp, là người chỉ huy Nhóm Ba Mươi. Chính ông đã vung giáo đâm chết ba trăm mạng, và được nổi danh trong Nhóm Ba Mươi.

21Ông được vinh dự nhất trong Nhóm Ba Mươi, nên ông được đứng đầu ; nhưng không được vào Bộ Ba.

22Ông Bơ-na-gia, con ông Giơ-hô-gia-đa, một con người dũng cảm, nhiều thành tích, xuất thân từ Cáp-xơ-ên. Chính ông đã hạ sát hai anh hùng Mô-áp ; chính ông đã xuống đập chết con sư tử ở trong giếng vào một ngày có tuyết.

23Chính ông đã hạ một tên Ai-cập, thân cao hai thước rưỡi. Tên Ai-cập cầm giáo trong tay như cầm khung cửi của thợ dệt. Ông xuống đánh nó với một cây gậy, cướp giáo khỏi tay tên Ai-cập, và lấy giáo của nó mà giết nó.

24Đó là những việc ông Bơ-na-gia-hu, con ông Giơ-hô-gia-đa đã làm, và ông được nổi danh trong Nhóm Ba Mươi dũng sĩ.

25Ông được vinh dự nhất trong Nhóm Ba Mươi, nhưng không được vào Bộ Ba. Vua Đa-vít đặt ông trông coi đội cận vệ của vua.

31I-thai, con của Ri-vai người Ghíp-a, là con cháu Ben-gia-min, Bơ-na-gia người Pia-a-thôn,

32Khu-rai quê ở Khe suối Ga-át, A-vi-ên người A-ra-va,

33Át-ma-vét người Ba-khu-rim, En-giác-ba người Sa-an-vôn,

34Bơ-nê Ha-sêm người Ghi-dô, Giô-na-than, con của Sa-ghê người Ha-ra,

35A-khi-am, con của Xa-kha người Ha-ra, Ê-li-phan con của Ua,

36Khê-phe người Mơ-khê-ra, A-khi-gia người Pơ-lô-ni,

37Khét-rô người Các-men, Na-a-rai con của Ét-bai,

38Giô-en em của Na-than, Míp-kha con của Hắc-ri,

39Xe-léc người Am-mon, Nác-rai người Bơ-ê-rốt, cận vệ của ông Giô-áp con bà Xơ-ru-gia,
