Lamentations

1I am the man who has seen afflictionby the rod of his wrath.

2He has led me and caused me to walk in darkness,and not in light.

3Surely he turns his hand against meagain and again all day long.

4He has made my flesh and my skin old.He has broken my bones.

5He has built against me,and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.

6He has made me dwell in dark places,as those who have been long dead.

7He has walled me about, so that I can’t go out.He has made my chain heavy.

8Yes, when I cry, and call for help,he shuts out my prayer.

9He has walled up my ways with cut stone.He has made my paths crooked.

10He is to me as a bear lying in wait,as a lion in hiding.

11He has turned away my path,and pulled me in pieces. He has made me desolate.

12He has bent his bow,and set me as a mark for the arrow.

13He has caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my kidneys.

14I have become a derision to all my people, and their song all day long.

15He has filled me with bitterness.He has stuffed me with wormwood.

16He has also broken my teeth with gravel.He has covered me with ashes.

17You have removed my soul far away from peace.I forgot prosperity.

18I said, “My strength has perished,along with my expectation from the LORD.”

19Remember my affliction and my misery,the wormwood and the bitterness.

20My soul still remembers them,and is bowed down within me.

21This I recall to my mind;therefore I have hope.

22It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed,because his mercies don’t fail.

23They are new every morning.Great is your faithfulness.

24“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul.“Therefore I will hope in him.”

25The LORD is good to those who wait for him,to the soul who seeks him.

26It is good that a man should hopeand quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

27It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

28Let him sit alone and keep silence,because he has laid it on him.

29Let him put his mouth in the dust,if it is so that there may be hope.

30Let him give his cheek to him who strikes him.Let him be filled full of reproach.

31For the Lord will not cast off forever.

32For though he causes grief, yet he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

33For he does not afflict willingly,nor grieve the children of men.

34To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,

35to turn away the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

36to subvert a man in his cause, the Lord doesn’t approve.

37Who is he who says, and it comes to pass,when the Lord doesn’t command it?

38Doesn’t evil and good come out of the mouth of the Most High?

39Why should a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

40Let us search and try our ways,and turn again to the LORD.

41Let’s lift up our heart with our hands to Godin the heavens.

42“We have transgressed and have rebelled. You have not pardoned.

43“You have covered us with anger and pursued us.You have killed. You have not pitied.

44You have covered yourself with a cloud,so that no prayer can pass through.

45You have made us an off-scouring and refusein the middle of the peoples.

46“All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.

47Terror and the pit have come on us, devastation and destruction.”

48My eye runs down with streams of water,for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

49My eye pours downand doesn’t cease, without any intermission,

50until the LORD looks down,and sees from heaven.

51My eye affects my soul,because of all the daughters of my city.

52They have chased me relentlessly like a bird,those who are my enemies without cause.

53They have cut off my life in the dungeon,and have cast a stone on me.

54Waters flowed over my head.I said, “I am cut off.”

55I called on your name, LORD,out of the lowest dungeon.

56You heard my voice:“Don’t hide your ear from my sighing, and my cry.”

57You came near in the day that I called on you.You said, “Don’t be afraid.”

58Lord, you have pleaded the causes of my soul.You have redeemed my life.

59LORD, you have seen my wrong.Judge my cause.

60You have seen all their vengeanceand all their plans against me.

61You have heard their reproach, LORD,and all their plans against me,

62the lips of those that rose up against me,and their plots against me all day long.

63You see their sitting down and their rising up.I am their song.

64You will pay them back, LORD,according to the work of their hands.

65You will give them hardness of heart,your curse to them.

66You will pursue them in anger,and destroy them from under the heavens of the LORD.

1Ta là người đã thấy khốn khổ bởi gậy thạnh nộ của Ngài.

2Ngài đã dắt ta và khiến ta bước đi trong tối tăm, chẳng bước đi trong sáng láng.

3Chắc Ngài trở tay cả ngày nghịch cùng ta nhiều lần.

4Ngài đã làm hao mòn thịt và da, đã bẻ gãy xương ta,

5Đã xây đắp nghịch cùng ta, vây ta bằng mật đắng và sự nhọc nhằn,

6Khiến ta ở trong nơi tối tăm, như người đã chết từ lâu đời.

7Ngài đã bao bọc ta bằng tường, mà không cho ra; lại làm cho nặng xiềng ta.

8Khi ta kêu la và xin cứu, Ngài bịt tai chẳng nghe lời cầu nguyện;

9Lấy những đá đẽo lấp lối ta; Ngài đã làm cho đường nẻo ta quanh quẹo.

10Ngài đối với ta như gấu rình rập, như sư tử nơi kín đáo;

11Khiến ta lạc đường và vồ xé ta, cho ta phải sầu não.

12Ngài đã giương cung và chọn ta làm tròng cho tên Ngài.

13Ngài đã khiến tên trong bao Ngài vào trái cật ta:

14Ta làm trò cười cho cả dân ta, họ lấy ta làm bài hát cả ngày.

15Ngài đã cho ta đầy dẫy sự đắng cay, cho ta no nê bằng ngải cứu.

16Ngài đã lấy sỏi bẻ răng ta; vùi ta vào trong tro.

17Ngài khiến hồn ta xa sự bình an, ta đã quên phước lành.

18Ta rằng: Hết sức mạnh ta, dứt lòng trông đợi Đức Giê-hô-va.

19Hãy nhớ đến sự hoạn nạn khốn khổ ta, là ngải cứu và mật đắng.

20Hồn ta còn nhớ đến, và hao mòn trong ta.

21Ta nhớ lại sự đó, thì có sự trông mong:

22Aáy là nhờ sự nhân từ Đức Giê-hô-va mà chúng ta chưa tuyệt. Vì sự thương xót của Ngài chẳng dứt.

23Mỗi buổi sáng thì lại mới luôn, sự thành tín Ngài là lớn lắm.

24Hồn ta nói: Đức Giê-hô-va là cơ nghiệp ta, nên ta để lòng trông cậy nơi Ngài.

25Đức Giê-hô-va ban sự nhân từ cho những kẻ trông đợi Ngài, cho linh hồn tìm cầu Ngài.

26Thật tốt cho người trông mong và yên lặng đợi chờ sự cứu rỗi của Đức Giê-hô-va.

27Thật tốt cho người mang ách lúc trẻ thơ.

28Phải, nó phải ngồi một mình và làm thinh, vì Ngài đã gán ách trên mình.

29Nó khá để miệng trong bụi đất! hoặc giả sẽ có sự trông mong.

30Nó khá đưa má ra cho kẻ vả, khá chịu đầy nhuốc nhơ.

31Vì Chúa chẳng hề bỏ cho đến đời đời.

32Dầu Ngài đã làm cho lo buồn, còn sẽ thương xót theo sự dư dật của lòng nhân từ Ngài;

33Vì ấy là chẳng phải bổn tâm Ngài làm cho con cái loài người cực khổ và buồn rầu.

34Khi người ta giày đạp mọi kẻ tù trong đất,

35Khi uốn cong lý đoán của người trước mặt Đấng Rất Cao,

36Khi điên đảo ai trong sự xét đoán, thì Chúa chẳng ưng chịu.

37Nếu chẳng phải Chúa truyền lịnh, ai hay nói ra và sự ấy được thành?

38Há chẳng phải từ miệng Đấng Rất Cao ra tai họa và phước lành?

39Cớ sao người đang sống phàn nàn vì chịu hình phạt về tội lỗi mình?

40Chúng ta hãy xét và thử đường mình, trở về cùng Đức Giê-hô-va.

41Chúng ta hãy giơ lòng và tay lên đến Đức Chúa Trời trên trời.

42Chúng tôi đã phạm phép, đã bạn nghịch; Ngài đã chẳng dung thứ!

43Ngài lấy giận che mình và đuổi theo chúng tôi, giết lát chúng tôi, chẳng thương xót.

44Ngài ẩn mình trong mây, đến nỗi chẳng lời cầu nguyện nào thấu qua được.

45Ngài làm chúng tôi ra của bỏ, ra đồ rác rến trong dân sự.

46Mọi kẻ nghịch thù hả miệng rộng nghịch cùng chúng tôi.

47Chúng tôi đã mắc sự sợ hãi, hầm hố, hủy diệt, và hư hại.

48Mắt tôi chảy dòng nước, vì gái dân tôi mắc diệt vong.

49Mắt tôi tuôn nước mắt, không thôi cũng không ngớt,

50Cho đến chừng nào Đức Giê-hô-va đoái xem, từ trên trời ngó xuống.

51Mắt tôi làm khổ linh hồn tôi, vì mọi con gái của thành tôi.

52Những kẻ vô cớ thù nghịch tôi đã đuổi tôi như đuổi chim.

53Họ muốn giết tôi nơi ngục tối, và ném đá trên tôi.

54Nước lên ngập đầu tôi, tôi nói: Ta phải chết mất!

55Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, tôi từ nơi ngục tối rất sâu kêu cầu danh Ngài.

56Ngài chúng con đã nghe tiếng tôi, xin đừng bịt tai khỏi hơi thở và lời kêu van tôi.

57Ngày tôi cầu Ngài, Ngài đã đến gần tôi, đã phán cùng tôi: Chớ sợ hãi chi!

58Hỡi Chúa, Ngài đã đối nại việc hồn tôi, là Đấng chuộc mạng tôi.

59Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, Ngài đã thấy người ta hiếp đáp tôi: xin đoán xét việc tôi!

60Chúng nó báo thù, lập mưu hại tôi, thì Ngài đã thấy hết.

61Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, Ngài đã nghe chúng nó sỉ nhục, bày mọi mưu chước nghịch cùng tôi.

62Những môi miếng của kẻ dấy nghịch cùng tôi và mưu kế lập ra hại tôi cả ngày.

63Xin Ngài xem sự ngồi xuống và đứng dậy của chúng nó; tôi là bài hát của chúng nó.

64Hỡi Đức Giê-hô-va, Ngài sẽ báo trả chúng nó tùy theo việc tay chúng nó làm.

65Ngài sẽ ban lòng cứng cỏi cho chúng nó, sự rủa sả giáng trên chúng nó.

66Ngài sẽ lấy cơn giận và đuổi theo, hủy hoại chúng nó khỏi dưới trời của Đức Giê-hô-va.
