John

1After these things, Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is also called the Sea of Tiberias.

2A great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on those who were sick.

3Jesus went up into the mountain, and he sat there with his disciples.

4Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.

5Jesus therefore, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip,“Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?”

6He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.

7Philip answered him, “Two hundred denariiworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may receive a little.”

8One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him,

9“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?”

10Jesus said,“Have the people sit down.”Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

11Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down, likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.

12When they were filled, he said to his disciples,“Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.”

13So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.

14When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.”

15Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

16When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea.

17They entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.

18The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing.

19When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia,they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.

20But he said to them,“It is I.Don’t be afraid.”

21They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.

22On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.

23However, boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

24When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn’t there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

25When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”

26Jesus answered them,“Most certainly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

27Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him.”

28They said therefore to him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?”

29Jesus answered them,“This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

30They said therefore to him, “What then do you do for a sign, that we may see and believe you? What work do you do?

31Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heavento eat.’”

32Jesus therefore said to them,“Most certainly, I tell you, it wasn’t Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.

33For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.”

34They said therefore to him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”

35Jesus said to them,“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

36But I told you that you have seen me, and yet you don’t believe.

37All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. He who comes to me I will in no way throw out.

38For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

39This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day.

40This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

41The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said,“I am the bread which came down out of heaven.”

42They said, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say,‘I have come down out of heaven’?”

43Therefore Jesus answered them,“Don’t murmur among yourselves.

44No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up in the last day.

45It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’Therefore everyone who hears from the Father and has learned, comes to me.

46Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.

47Most certainly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.

48I am the bread of life.

49Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and they died.

50This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die.

51I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

52The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

53Jesus therefore said to them,“Most certainly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don’t have life in yourselves.

54He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

55For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

56He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.

57As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on me will also live because of me.

58This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna and died. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

59He said these things in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

60Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying! Who can listen to it?”

61But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them,“Does this cause you to stumble?

62Then what if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?

63It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.

64But there are some of you who don’t believe.”For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn’t believe, and who it was who would betray him.

65He said,“For this cause I have said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by my Father.”

66At this, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him.

67Jesus said therefore to the twelve,“You don’t also want to go away, do you?”

68Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.

69We have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

70Jesus answered them,“Didn’t I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”

71Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.

Chúa Giê-xu Đãi Ăn cho Năm Nghìn Người

1Sau đó, Chúa Giê-xu xuống thuyền qua bên kia biển Ga-li-lê, cũng gọi là biển Ti-bê-ri-át.

2Một đoàn dân đông theo Chúa vì được xem Chúa làm phép lạ, chữa lành bệnh tật.

3Chúa Giê-xu lên một ngọn đồi, ngồi giữa các môn đệ.

4(Hôm ấy gần đến lễ Vượt Qua của người Do Thái.)

5Chúa Giê-xu nhìn đoàn dân đông đảo đang chen chúc nhau đến gần. Quay sang Phi-líp, Chúa hỏi: “Chúng ta mua thức ăn tại đâu để đãi dân chúng?”

6Chúa chỉ muốn thử Phi-líp, vì Ngài biết Ngài sẽ làm gì.

7Phi-líp thưa: “Nếu chúng ta làm việc cả tháng, chúng ta cũng không đủ tiềnđể chia cho mỗi người một ít.”

8Sứ đồ Anh-rê, em của Si-môn Phi-e-rơ, thưa:

9“Có cậu bé đem theo năm ổ bánh lúa mạch và hai con cá. Nhưng chẳng thấm gì với đoàn dân đông đảo này!”

10Chúa Giê-xu phán: “Hãy bảo mọi người ngồi xuống.” Mọi người chia nhau ngồi trên các bãi cỏ. (Riêng số đàn ông đã lên đến 5.000).

11Chúa Giê-xu cầm bánh, tạ ơn Đức Chúa Trời và chia cho mỗi người, rồi đem cá phân phát. Ai muốn ăn bao nhiêu tùy thích.

12Khi dân chúng no nê rồi, Chúa Giê-xu nói với các môn đệ: “Hãy đi nhặt những mẩu bánh còn thừa, đừng bỏ phí!”

13Họ đi lượm nhưng mẩu vụn của năm ổ bánh mà người ta ăn còn thừa, đựng đầy mười hai giỏ.

14Dân chúng thấy phép lạ Chúa làm, họ bảo nhau: “Ngài đúng là Nhà Tiên Tri chúng ta đang mong đợi.”

15Chúa Giê-xu thấy họ sắp tạo áp lực đưa Ngài lên làm vua, Chúa liền đi lên núi một mình.

Chúa Giê-xu Đi Bộ trên Mặt Nước

16Chiều hôm ấy, các môn đệ của Chúa Giê-xu đến bờ biển chờ Ngài.

17Trời đã tối mà Chúa Giê-xu vẫn chưa đến. Họ xuống thuyền, định sang thành Ca-bê-na-um.

18Mặt biển nổi sóng vì gió thổi mạnh.

19Chèo đi được ba hay bốn dặm,bỗng các môn đệ thấy Chúa Giê-xu đi trên mặt nước đến gần thuyền. Họ đều khiếp sợ,

20nhưng Chúa gọi họ: “Đừng sợ. Ta đây!”

21Lúc ấy, họ mới dám mời Chúa lên thuyền, và lập tức con thuyền cập bến đúng nơi họ muốn đi.

Chúa Giê-xu, Bánh Hằng sống

22Sáng hôm sau, đoàn dân bên kia bờ biển nhìn sang, chỉ thấy chiếc thuyền của các môn đệ, vì lúc thuyền rời bến, không có Chúa Giê-xu đi theo.

23Lúc ấy, có mấy chiếc thuyền từ cảng Ti-bê-ri-át đến đậu gần nơi Chúa đãi dân chúng ăn bánh hôm trước.

24Thấy bên bờ này không có Chúa Giê-xu, các môn đệ Chúa cũng đã đi rồi, đoàn dân xuống thuyền qua Ca-bê-na-um tìm Ngài.

25Gặp Chúa bên bờ biển, họ hỏi: “Thầy đến đây bao giờ?”

26Chúa Giê-xu đáp: “Ta quả quyết với anh chị em, anh chị em tìm Ta không phải vì tin Ta sau khi thấy Ta làm phép lạ, nhưng vì được ăn bánh no nê thỏa thích.

27Đừng nhọc công tìm kiếm thức ăn dễ hư nát. Nhưng hãy cất công tìm kiếm sự sống vĩnh cửu mà Con Người ban cho anh chị em. Chính vì mục đích ấy mà Đức Chúa Trời là Cha đã ấn chứng cho.”

28Họ hỏi: “Chúng tôi phải làm gì cho đẹp ý Đức Chúa Trời?”

29Chúa Giê-xu đáp: “Anh chị em chỉ làm một việc Đức Chúa Trời muốn: Tin Đấng mà Ngài đã sai đến.”

30Họ thắc mắc: “Thầy làm phép lạ gì cho chúng tôi thấy, rồi chúng tôi mới tin Thầy. Thầy có thể làm gì?

31Tổ phụ chúng tôi đã ăn bánh ma-na trong hành trình xuyên hoang mạc! Như Thánh Kinh đã ghi: ‘Môi-se cho họ ăn bánh từ trời.’”

32Chúa Giê-xu giải thích: “Ta quả quyết với anh chị em, không phải Môi-se cho anh chị em bánh từ trời. Chính Cha Ta đã làm. Ngày nay, Ngài đã cho anh chị em bánh thật từ trời.

33Bánh thật của Đức Chúa Trời là Đấng từ trời xuống và ban cho nhân loại sự sống vĩnh cửu.”

34Họ yêu cầu: “Thưa Thầy, xin Thầy cho chúng tôi bánh ấy hằng ngày.”

35Chúa Giê-xu đáp: “Ta là Bánh Hằng Sống. Ai đến cùng Ta chẳng bao giờ đói. Ai tin Ta chẳng bao giờ khát.

36Nhưng anh chị em không tin Ta dù anh chị em đã thấy Ta.

37Vậy nên, người nào Cha dành cho Ta sẽ đến với Ta và Ta chẳng bao giờ xua đuổi họ.

38Vì Ta từ trời xuống, không phải để làm theo ý mình, nhưng để thực hiện ý muốn của Đức Chúa Trời, Đấng đã sai Ta.

39Và đây là ý muốn của Đức Chúa Trời, Ta sẽ không làm mất một người nào trong những người Ngài giao cho Ta, nhưng cho họ sống lại trong ngày cuối cùng.

40Vì ý muốn của Cha Ta là những người thấy Con và tin Ngài đều được sự sống vĩnh cửu và được sống lại trong ngày cuối cùng.”

41Người Do Thái lẩm bẩm trách Chúa vì Ngài nói: “Ta là Bánh từ trời xuống.”

42Họ nói: “Ông ấy chẳng phải là Giê-xu, con trai của Giô-sép sao? Chúng ta đều biết cha và mẹ của ông ấy. Thế mà ông ấy dám nói: ‘Ta từ trời xuống’ sao?”

43Chúa Giê-xu nói với họ: “Hãy thôi phàn nàn về những gì Ta nói.

44Chẳng một người nào đến với Ta nếu không được Cha Ta thu hút. Người đến với Ta sẽ được Ta cho sống lại trong ngày cuối cùng.

45Như có viết trong Thánh Kinh: ‘Họ sẽ được Đức Chúa Trời dạy dỗ.’Hễ ai nghe lời Cha và chịu Ngài dạy dỗ đều đến với Ta.

46(Chẳng có người nào nhìn thấy Cha, ngoại trừ Ta, Người được Đức Chúa Trời sai đến, đã thấy Ngài.)

47Tôi quả quyết với anh chị em, ai tin Ta sẽ được sự sống vĩnh cửu.

48Phải, Ta là Bánh Hằng Sống!

49Tổ phụ anh chị em ăn bánh ma-na trong hoang mạc rồi cũng chết.

50Ai ăn Bánh từ trời xuống, chẳng bao giờ chết.

51Ta là Bánh Hằng Sống từ trời xuống. Ai ăn Bánh này sẽ được sự sống đời đời; Bánh cứu sống nhân loại chính là thân thể Ta.”

52Người Do Thái cãi nhau: “Làm sao ông này cắt thịt mình cho chúng ta ăn được?”

53Chúa Giê-xu nhắc lại: “Ta quả quyết với anh chị em, nếu không ăn thịt và uống máu của Con Người, anh chị em không có sự sống thật.

54Ai ăn thịt Ta và uống máu Ta sẽ được sự sống vĩnh cửu; Ta sẽ khiến người ấy sống lại trong ngày cuối cùng.

55Vì thịt Ta là thức ăn thật, máu Ta là nước uống thật.

56Ai ăn thịt Ta và uống máu Ta là người sống trong Ta và Ta sống trong người ấy.

57Như Cha Hằng sống là Đấng sai Ta xuống đời làm Nguồn Sống cho Ta; cũng vậy, Ta cũng làm Nguồn Sống cho người nào tiếp nhận Ta.

58Ta là Bánh thật từ trời xuống. Ai ăn Bánh này sẽ không chết như tổ phụ của anh chị em (dù họ đã ăn bánh ma-na) nhưng sẽ được sống đời đời.”

59Chúa giảng dạy những lời ấy trong hội đường Do Thái tại Ca-bê-na-um.

Nhiều Môn Đệ Bỏ Chúa Giê-xu

60Nhiều môn đệ phàn nàn: “Lời dạy này khó quá. Ai có thể chấp nhận được?”

61Nghe các môn đệ than phiền, Chúa Giê-xu liền hỏi: “Các con bất mãn vì những lời Ta dạy sao?

62Các con sẽ nghĩ thế nào nếu thấy Con Người trở về thiên đàng?

63Chúa Thánh Linh ban sự sống mới. Xác thịt chẳng làm chi được. Lời Ta dạy biểu hiện Chúa Thánh Linh và đầy sức sống.

64Nhưng trong các con vẫn có người ngoan cố không tin Ta.” (Vì Chúa Giê-xu biết từ đầu ai cứng cỏi không tin, và Ngài biết ai sẽ phản Ngài.)

65Chúa dạy tiếp: “Vì thế Ta đã bảo các con, nếu Cha Ta không cho, chẳng ai đến cùng Ta được.”

66Từ đó, nhiều môn đệ bỏ cuộc, không theo Ngài nữa.

67Chúa Giê-xu hỏi mười hai sứ đồ: “Còn các con muốn bỏ Ta không?”

68Si-môn Phi-e-rơ thưa: “Thưa Chúa, chúng con sẽ đi theo ai? Chúa đem lại cho chúng con Đạo sống vĩnh cửu.

69Chúng con tin và biết Chúa là Đấng Thánh của Đức Chúa Trời.”

70Chúa Giê-xu đáp: “Ta lựa chọn có mười hai người thân tín, mà một người đã thành ác quỷ.”

71Chúa muốn nói về Giu-đa Ích-ca-ri-ốt, con Si-môn, một trong mười hai sứ đồ, người sẽ phản Chúa sau này.
