Chúa Giê-xu Trước Tòa Phi-lát

1Ngay sáng hôm sau, các thầy trưởng tế, các trưởng lão, các thầy dạy luật, và cả Hội Đồng Quốc Gia họp nhau thảo luận. Họ trói Chúa Giê-xu lại và giải Ngài qua Phi-lát, tổng trấn La Mã.

2Phi-lát hỏi Chúa: “Anh có phải là Vua người Do Thái không?” Chúa Giê-xu đáp: “Phải.”

3Các thầy trưởng tế tố cáo Ngài nhiều tội.

4Phi-lát hỏi Chúa: “Anh không trả lời gì hết sao? Người ta tố cáo anh đủ điều đó!”

5Chúa Giê-xu vẫn không đáp, khiến Phi-lát rất ngạc nhiên.

6Hằng năm đến lễ Vượt Qua, Phi-lát có lệ phóng thích một người tù theo thỉnh nguyện của dân chúng.

7Năm ấy có Ba-ra-ba bị giam trong ngục cùng một số phạm nhân can tội cố sát, nhân cuộc nổi dậy chống chính quyền La Mã.

8Dân chúng kéo đến xin Phi-lát phóng thích một người tù theo thông lệ.

9Phi-lát hỏi: “Các anh muốn ta tha Vua người Do Thái không?”

10Vì Phi-lát biết rõ các thầy trưởng tế bắt Chúa nộp cho ông chỉ vì lòng ganh ghét.

11Nhưng các thầy trưởng tế sách động quần chúng yêu cầu Phi-lát phóng thích Ba-ra-ba.

12Phi-lát hỏi lại: “Còn người các anh gọi là Vua người Do Thái, ta phải xử sao đây?”

13Họ hét lớn: “Đóng đinh nó trên cây thập tự!”

14Phi-lát hỏi: “Tại sao? Người ấy có tội gì đâu?” Nhưng họ gầm thét: “Đóng đinh hắn trên cây thập tự!”

15Để mua chuộc lòng dân, Phi-lát phóng thích Ba-ra-ba cho họ, đồng thời sai đánh Chúa Giê-xu rồi giao cho lính đem đóng đinh trên cây thập tự.

Quân Lính Sỉ Nhục Chúa Giê-xu

16Quân lính giải Chúa vào dinh tổng trấn, rồi tập họp cả đại đội.

17Chúng mặc cho Ngài tấm áo màu tía, bện chiếc mão bằng gai đội lên đầu Ngài.

18Chúng giả vờ chào: “Lạy Vua người Do Thái!”

19Rồi lấy gậy sậy đập lên đầu Chúa, khạc nhổ vào mặt Chúa, và quỳ gối lạy.

20Chế giễu xong, chúng cởi áo màu tía ra, mặc áo dài lại cho Chúa, rồi dẫn Ngài đi đóng đinh trên cây thập tự.

Chúa Chịu Đóng Đinh

21Si-môn, người xứ Ly-bi,vừa từ thôn quê lên Giê-ru-sa-lem, bị bọn lính bắt vác cây thập tự cho Chúa Giê-xu. (Si-môn là cha của A-lét-xan-đơ và Ru-phu).

22Bọn lính giải Chúa lên đồi Gô-gô-tha (nghĩa là Đồi Sọ).

23Chúng cho Ngài uống rượu pha với chất nhựa thơm, nhưng Ngài không uống.

24Bọn lính đóng đinh Chúa trên cây thập tự. Chúng gieo súc sắc chia nhau bộ áo của Ngài, mỗi người lãnh một phần.

25Chúa bị đóng đinh vào khoảng chín giờ sáng.

26Tấm bảng tội trạng ghi mấy chữ: “Vua người Do Thái.”

27Bọn lính cũng đóng đinh hai tướng cướp trên cây thập tự, một tên bên phải, một tên bên trái Chúa.

28Việc xảy ra đúng như lời tiên tri trong Thánh Kinh: “Ngài bị kể vào hàng phạm nhân.”

29Khách qua đường lắc đầu, sỉ nhục Chúa: “Ha! Anh đòi phá nát Đền Thờ rồi xây lại trong ba ngày!

30Sao không tự giải cứu và xuống khỏi cây thập tự đi!”

31Các thầy trưởng tế và các thầy dạy luật cũng chế nhạo: “Hắn cứu người khác giỏi lắm mà cứu mình không nổi!

32Này, Đấng Mết-si-a, Vua người Do Thái! Phải xuống khỏi cây thập tự cho chúng tôi thấy, chúng tôi mới tin chứ!” Hai tên cướp bị đóng đinh với Chúa cũng sỉ nhục Ngài.

Chúa Giê-xu Chết

33Lúc giữa trưa, khắp đất đều tối đen như mực cho đến ba giờ chiều.

34Đúng ba giờ, Chúa Giê-xu kêu lớn: “Ê-li, Ê-li, la-ma-sa-bách-ta-ni” nghĩa là “Đức Chúa Trời ơi! Đức Chúa Trời ơi! Sao Ngài lìa bỏ Con?”

35Nghe tiếng kêu, mấy người đứng gần bảo: “Này, hắn gọi Ê-li!”

36Một người chạy đi lấy bông đá tẩm rượu chua, buộc vào đầu cây sậy đưa lên cho Chúa nhấm, và nói: “Để chờ xem Ê-li có đến đem hắn xuống không!”

37Chúa Giê-xu kêu lên một tiếng lớn, rồi tắt thở.

38Bức màn trong Đền Thờ bị xé làm đôi từ trên xuống dưới.

39Viên đội trưởng La Mã đứng trước cây thập tự, thấy Chúa qua đời như thế, liền nhìn nhận: “Người này đúng là Con Đức Chúa Trời!”

40Một số phụ nữ nhìn từ xa. Trong số đó có Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len, Ma-ri (mẹ Gia-cơ nhỏ và Giô-sép), cùng Sa-lô-mê.

41Khi Chúa còn ở Ga-li-lê, họ đã cùng nhiều phụ nữ khác đi theo phục vụ Ngài. Họ mới theo Chúa lên Giê-ru-sa-lem để dự lễ Vượt Qua.

Sự Chôn Xác Chúa Giê-xu

42Hôm đó, nhằm ngày thứ Sáu, là ngày chuẩn bị, trước ngày Sa-bát. Đến chiều tối,

43Giô-sép, người A-ri-ma-thê, một nhân viên có uy tín trong Hội Đồng Quốc Gia, từng trông đợi Nước của Đức Chúa Trời, đã bạo dạn đến xin Phi-lát cho lãnh xác Chúa Giê-xu.

44Phi-lát không tin Chúa Giê-xu đã chết, nên gọi viên đại đội trưởng đến phối kiểm.

45Khi viên sĩ quan xác nhận Chúa Giê-xu đã tắt hơi, Phi-lát cho phép Giô-sép được lãnh xác Ngài.

46Giô-sép mua một cây vải gai, gỡ xác Chúa Giê-xu xuống khâm liệm, chôn trong huyệt đá đục bên sườn núi, rồi lăn một tảng đá lớn chặn trước cửa mộ.

47Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len và Ma-ri, mẹ Giô-sép theo dõi nên biết nơi an táng Chúa Giê-xu.

1And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

2And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him,Thou sayest it.

3And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.

4And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.

5But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.

6Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.

7And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

8And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.

9But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

10For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.

11But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.

12And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

13And they cried out again, Crucify him.

14Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

15¶ And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

16And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Prætorium; and they call together the whole band.

17And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,

18And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

19And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

20And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

21And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.

22And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

23And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.

24And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

25And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

26And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

27And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

28And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

29And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,

30Save thyself, and come down from the cross.

31Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

32Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

33And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

34And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying,Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

35And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

36And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.

37And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

38And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

39¶ And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

40There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

41(Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.

42¶ And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

43Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.

44And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.

45And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

46And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

47And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
