Phi-e-rơ Giải Thích Hành Động của Ông

1Các sứ đồ và anh em tín hữu xứ Giu-đê nghe tin dân ngoại cũng đã tiếp nhận Đạo của Đức Chúa Trời.

2Nhưng khi Phi-e-rơ trở về Giê-ru-sa-lem, bị các tín hữu Do Thái chỉ trích.

3Họ nói: “Ông đã vào nhà của dân ngoại và còn ăn chung với họ nữa!”

4Rồi Phi-e-rơ kể cho họ từng việc đã xảy ra:

5“Tại thành Gia-pha, tôi đang cầu nguyện thì chợt xuất thần, thấy khải tượng. Có vật gì giống như tấm vải lớn buộc bốn góc từ trời sa xuống trước mặt tôi.

6Tôi chăm chú nhìn, thấy bên trong có các loài súc vật, dã thú, loài bò sát, và loài chim trời.

7Tôi nghe có tiếng gọi: ‘Hãy dậy, Phi-e-rơ; hãy dậy làm thịt ăn.’

8Nhưng tôi thưa: ‘Lạy Chúa, con không dám, vì con không hề ăn vật gì mà theo luật Do Thái là ô uế hay không tinh sạch.’

9Tiếng từ trời lại phán: ‘Vật gì Đức Chúa Trời đã tẩy sạch thì không nên xem là ô uế nữa!’

10Tiếng đó lặp lại ba lần rồi mọi vật được thu lên trời.

11Ngay lúc ấy, có ba người từ Sê-sa-rê đến, dừng chân trước nhà tôi đang trọ.

12Chúa Thánh Linh bảo tôi đừng e ngại, cứ đi với họ. Ngoài ra có sáu anh em đây cùng đến nhà Cọt-nây với tôi.

13Chúng tôi nghe Cọt-nây kể lại chuyện thiên sứ hiện đến bảo ông: ‘Hãy sai người đến Gia-pha mời Phi-e-rơ.

14Người ấy sẽ truyền lời Chúa cho ông, nhờ đó ông và mọi người trong nhà sẽ được cứu!’

15Khi tôi bắt đầu giảng, Chúa Thánh Linh liền giáng trên họ như Ngài đã giáng trên chúng ta lúc đầu.

16Tôi nhớ lại lời Chúa dạy: ‘Giăng làm báp-tem bằng nước, nhưng các con sẽ nhận báp-tem bằng Chúa Thánh Linh.’

17Vậy nếu Đức Chúa Trời ban ân tứ cho dân ngoại như Ngài đã ban cho chúng ta là người tin Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu, thì tôi là ai mà dám ngăn cản Đức Chúa Trời?”

18Họ nghe xong liền thôi chỉ trích ông, và tôn vinh Đức Chúa Trời: “Thế là Chúa cũng cho các dân ngoại cơ hội ăn năn để được sự sống đời đời.”

Hội Thánh tại An-ti-ốt, Xứ Sy-ri

19Lúc các tín hữu tản mác khắp nơi vì vụ áp bức sau khi Ê-tiên qua đời, một số đến tận Phê-ni-xi, Síp, và An-ti-ốt truyền giáo, nhưng chỉ cho người Do Thái.

20Tuy nhiên, mấy tín hữu quê ở Síp và Ly-bi đến An-ti-ốt giảng về Chúa Giê-xu cho người Hy Lạp.

21Chúa cùng làm việc với họ, nên có đông người ăn năn tin Chúa.

22Tin tức đưa về Giê-ru-sa-lem, Hội Thánh cử Ba-na-ba đến An-ti-ốt.

23Khi đến nơi, thấy công việc của Đức Chúa Trời, ông rất vui mừng, khích lệ anh chị em hết lòng trung tín với Chúa.

24Ba-na-ba là người đạo đức, đầy dẫy Chúa Thánh Linh và đức tin. Ông dìu dắt nhiều người đến với Chúa.

25Sau đó, Ba-na-ba lên Tạt-sơ tìm Sau-lơ.

26Ông tìm được Sau-lơ và đưa về An-ti-ốt. Suốt một năm, hai ông nhóm họp với Hội Thánh và huấn luyện rất nhiều người. (Tại An-ti-ốt, lần đầu tiên tín hữu được gọi là Cơ Đốc nhân.)

27Trong khi đó, có mấy nhà tiên tri từ Giê-ru-sa-lem xuống An-ti-ốt.

28Một nhà tiên tri tên A-ga-bút được Chúa Thánh Linh hướng dẫn, đứng lên giữa buổi họp báo trước rằng thế giới La Mã sẽ bị nạn đói lớn. (Quả nhiên, nạn đói xảy ra vào thời cai trị của Cơ-lốt.)

29Các tín hữu tại An-ti-ốt quyết định mỗi người tùy theo khả năng gửi quà cứu trợ anh chị em tín hữu xứ Giu-đê.

30Họ nhờ Ba-na-ba và Sau-lơ đem tặng phẩm về trao cho các trưởng lão tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

1And the apostles and the brethren who are in Judea heard that also the nations did receive the word of God,

2and when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision were contending with him,

3saying — 'Unto men uncircumcised thou didst go in, and didst eat with them!'

4And Peter having begun, did expound to them in order saying,

5'I was in the city of Joppa praying, and I saw in a trance a vision, a certain vessel coming down, as a great sheet by four corners being let down out of the heaven, and it came unto me;

6at which having looked stedfastly, I was considering, and I saw the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowls of heaven;

7and I heard a voice saying to me, Having risen, Peter, slay and eat;

8and I said, Not so, Lord; because anything common or unclean hath at no time entered into my mouth;

9and a voice did answer me a second time out of the heaven, What God did cleanse, thou — declare not thou common.

10'And this happened thrice, and again was all drawn up to the heaven,

11and, lo, immediately, three men stood at the house in which I was, having been sent from Caesarea unto me,

12and the Spirit said to me to go with them, nothing doubting, and these six brethren also went with me, and we did enter into the house of the man,

13he declared also to us how he saw the messenger in his house standing, and saying to him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, who is surnamed Peter,

14who shall speak sayings by which thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house.

15'And in my beginning to speak, the Holy Spirit did fall upon them, even as also upon us in the beginning,

16and I remembered the saying of the Lord, how he said, John indeed did baptize with water, and ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit;

17if then the equal gift God did give to them as also to us, having believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ, I — how was I able to withstand God?'

18And they, having heard these things, were silent, and were glorifying God, saying, 'Then, indeed, also to the nations did God give the reformation to life.'

19Those, indeed, therefore, having been scattered abroad, from the tribulation that came after Stephen, went through unto Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none except to Jews only;

20and there were certain of them men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who having entered into Antioch, were speaking unto the Hellenists, proclaiming good news — the Lord Jesus,

21and the hand of the Lord was with them, a great number also, having believed, did turn unto the Lord.

22And the account was heard in the ears of the assembly that [is] in Jerusalem concerning them, and they sent forth Barnabas to go through unto Antioch,

23who, having come, and having seen the grace of God, was glad, and was exhorting all with purpose of heart to cleave to the Lord,

24because he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit, and of faith, and a great multitude was added to the Lord.

25And Barnabas went forth to Tarsus, to seek for Saul,

26and having found him, he brought him to Antioch, and it came to pass that they a whole year did assemble together in the assembly, and taught a great multitude, the disciples also were divinely called first in Antioch Christians.

27And in those days there came from Jerusalem prophets to Antioch,

28and one of them, by name Agabus, having stood up, did signify through the Spirit a great dearth is about to be throughout all the world — which also came to pass in the time of Claudius Caesar —

29and the disciples, according as any one was prospering, determined each of them to send for ministration to the brethren dwelling in Judea,

30which also they did, having sent unto the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
