Genesis

1And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

2For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

3And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.

4And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.

6¶ And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

7And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.

8And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.

9¶ And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.

10Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.

11And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son.

12¶ And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.

13And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

14And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.

15And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

16And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept.

17And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is.

18Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.

19And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink.

20And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

21And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22¶ And it came to pass at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chief captain of his host spake unto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest:

23Now therefore swear unto me here by God that thou wilt not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto thee, thou shalt do unto me, and to the land wherein thou hast sojourned.

24And Abraham said, I will swear.

25And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water, which Abimelech’s servants had violently taken away.

26And Abimelech said, I wot not who hath done this thing: neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to day.

27And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.

28And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.

29And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set by themselves?

30And he said, For these seven ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness unto me, that I have digged this well.

31Wherefore he called that place Beer-sheba; because there they sware both of them.

32Thus they made a covenant at Beer-sheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

33¶ And Abraham planted a grove in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God.

34And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines’ land many days.

1ĐỨC CHÚA viếng thăm bà Xa-ra như Người đã phán, và Người đã làm cho bà như Người đã hứa.

2Bà Xa-ra có thai và sinh cho ông Áp-ra-ham một con trai khi ông đã già, vào thời kỳ Thiên Chúa đã hứa.

3Ông Áp-ra-ham đặt tên cho đứa con sinh ra cho ông là I-xa-ác, đứa con mà bà Xa-ra sinh ra cho ông.

4Ông Áp-ra-ham cắt bì cho I-xa-ác, con ông, lúc nó được tám ngày, như Thiên Chúa đã truyền cho ông.

5Ông Áp-ra-ham được một trăm tuổi khi sinh được người con là I-xa-ác.

6tất cả những ai nghe biết sẽ cười tôi.”

7Thế mà tôi đã sinh cho ông một con trai, khi ông đã về già !”

8Đứa trẻ lớn lên và cai sữa. Ông Áp-ra-ham làm tiệc lớn ngày I-xa-ác cai sữa.

9Bà Xa-ra thấy đứa con mà Ha-ga, người Ai-cập, đã sinh ra cho ông Áp-ra-ham, đang cười giỡn,

10liền nói với ông Áp-ra-ham : “Ông hãy đuổi hai mẹ con đứa nữ tỳ này đi, vì con trai đứa nữ tỳ không được thừa kế cùng với I-xa-ác, con trai tôi.”

11Ông Áp-ra-ham rất bực mình vì lời ấy, bởi đó là con ông.

12Nhưng Thiên Chúa phán với ông Áp-ra-ham : “Đừng bực mình vì chuyện đứa trẻ và người nữ tỳ của ngươi. Tất cả những gì Xa-ra nói với ngươi, cứ nghe, bởi vì chính nhờ I-xa-ác mà ngươi sẽ có một dòng dõi mang tên ngươi.

13Còn con trai của người nữ tỳ, Ta cũng sẽ làm cho nó thành một dân tộc lớn, vì nó là dòng dõi ngươi.”

14Nàng đi lang thang trong sa mạc Bơ-e Se-va.

15Khi nước trong bầu da đã cạn, nàng vất đứa bé dưới một bụi cây,

16rồi đi ngồi đối diện, cách xa khoảng tầm cung bắn. Nàng nói : “Sao cho tôi đừng nhìn thấy đứa bé chết !” Nàng ngồi đối diện và bật tiếng khóc.

17Thiên Chúa nghe thấy tiếng đứa trẻ và từ trời, sứ thần Thiên Chúa gọi Ha-ga và nói : “Sao thế, Ha-ga ? Đừng sợ, vì Thiên Chúa đã nghe thấy tiếng đứa trẻ, ở chỗ nó nằm.

18Đứng lên ! Đỡ đứa trẻ dậy và ôm nó trong tay, vì Ta sẽ làm cho nó thành một dân tộc lớn.”

19Thiên Chúa mở mắt cho nàng, và nàng thấy một giếng nước. Nàng đi đổ nước đầy bầu da, rồi cho đứa trẻ uống.

20Thiên Chúa ở với đứa trẻ, nó lớn lên, sống trong sa mạc, và trở thành người bắn cung.

21Nó sống trong sa mạc Pa-ran, và mẹ nó cưới cho nó một cô vợ người đất Ai-cập.

22Thời ấy, vua A-vi-me-léc cùng với ông Pi-khôn, tướng chỉ huy quân đội của vua, đến nói với ông Áp-ra-ham : “Thiên Chúa ở với ông trong tất cả những gì ông làm.

23Vậy bây giờ ông hãy lấy Thiên Chúa mà thề tại đây với tôi là ông sẽ không lừa dối tôi và con cái cháu chắt tôi ; tôi đã lấy tình mà đối xử với ông thế nào, thì ông cũng phải đối xử với tôi và với đất ông đang trú ngụ như vậy.”

24Ông Áp-ra-ham nói : “Tôi xin thề.”

25Ông Áp-ra-ham trách vua A-vi-me-léc về chuyện giếng nước mà những đầy tớ vua A-vi-me-léc đã chiếm đoạt.

26Vua A-vi-me-léc nói : “Tôi không biết ai đã làm điều đó. Chính ông đã không thông báo cho tôi ; và chính tôi mãi tới hôm nay cũng chẳng nghe biết gì.”

27Ông Áp-ra-ham lấy chiên bò biếu vua A-vi-me-léc, và cả hai lập một giao ước.

28Ông Áp-ra-ham tách riêng bảy con chiên cái còn non trong đàn ra.

29Vua A-vi-me-léc nói với ông Áp-ra-ham : “Bảy con chiên cái còn non ông tách riêng ra đó là để làm gì ?”

30Ông trả lời : “Bảy chiên cái còn non ấy, xin ông nhận từ tay tôi ; đó sẽ là bằng chứng tỏ ra chính tôi đã đào cái giếng ấy.”

31Bởi vậy, người ta gọi nơi ấy là Bơ-e Se-va, vì tại đó hai người đã thề.

32Họ đã lập giao ước tại Bơ-e Se-va, rồi vua A-vi-me-léc đứng dậy cùng với ông Pi-khôn, người chỉ huy quân đội của vua, và trở về đất người Phi-li-tinh.

33Ông Áp-ra-ham trồng một cây liễu bách tại Bơ-e Se-va, ở đó ông kêu cầu danh ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa vĩnh cửu.

34Ông Áp-ra-ham trú ngụ lâu dài trong đất người Phi-li-tinh.
