Genesis

1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

6¶ And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

7And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

8And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

9¶ And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

10And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

11And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

12And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

13And the evening and the morning were the third day.

14¶ And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

17And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

19And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

21And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24¶ And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

25And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29¶ And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

1Lúc khởi đầu, Thiên Chúa sáng tạo trời đất.

2Đất còn trống rỗng, chưa có hình dạng, bóng tối bao trùm vực thẳm, và thần khí Thiên Chúa bay lượn trên mặt nước.

3Thiên Chúa phán : “Phải có ánh sáng.” Liền có ánh sáng.

4Thiên Chúa thấy rằng ánh sáng tốt đẹp. Thiên Chúa phân rẽ ánh sáng và bóng tối.

5Thiên Chúa gọi ánh sáng là “ngày”, bóng tối là “đêm”. Qua một buổi chiều và một buổi sáng : đó là ngày thứ nhất.

6Thiên Chúa phán : “Phải có một cái vòm ở giữa khối nước, để phân rẽ nước với nước.”

7Thiên Chúa làm ra cái vòm đó và phân rẽ nước phía dưới vòm với nước phía trên. Liền có như vậy.

8Thiên Chúa gọi vòm đó là “trời”. Qua một buổi chiều và một buổi sáng : đó là ngày thứ hai.

9Thiên Chúa phán : “Nước phía dưới trời phải tụ lại một nơi, để chỗ cạn lộ ra.” Liền có như vậy.

10Thiên Chúa gọi chỗ cạn là “đất”, khối nước tụ lại là “biển”. Thiên Chúa thấy thế là tốt đẹp.

11Thiên Chúa phán : “Đất phải sinh thảo mộc xanh tươi, cỏ mang hạt giống, và cây trên mặt đất có trái, ra trái tuỳ theo loại, trong có hạt giống.” Liền có như vậy.

12Đất trổ sinh thảo mộc, cỏ mang hạt giống tuỳ theo loại, và cây ra trái, trong trái có hạt giống tuỳ theo loại. Thiên Chúa thấy thế là tốt đẹp.

13Qua một buổi chiều và một buổi sáng : đó là ngày thứ ba.

14Thiên Chúa phán : “Phải có những vầng sáng trên vòm trời, để phân rẽ ngày với đêm, để làm dấu chỉ xác định các đại lễ, ngày và năm.

15Đó sẽ là những vầng sáng trên vòm trời để chiếu soi mặt đất.” Liền có như vậy.

16Thiên Chúa làm ra hai vầng sáng lớn : vầng sáng lớn hơn để điều khiển ngày, vầng sáng nhỏ hơn để điều khiển đêm ; Người cũng làm ra các ngôi sao.

17Thiên Chúa đặt các vầng sáng trên vòm trời để chiếu soi mặt đất,

18để điều khiển ngày và đêm, và để phân rẽ ánh sáng với bóng tối. Thiên Chúa thấy thế là tốt đẹp.

19Qua một buổi chiều và một buổi sáng : đó là ngày thứ tư.

20Thiên Chúa phán : “Nước phải sinh ra đầy dẫy những sinh vật lúc nhúc, và loài chim phải bay lượn trên mặt đất, dưới vòm trời.”

21Thiên Chúa sáng tạo các thuỷ quái khổng lồ, cùng mọi sinh vật vẫy vùng lúc nhúc dưới nước tuỳ theo loại, và mọi giống chim bay tuỳ theo loại. Thiên Chúa thấy thế là tốt đẹp.

22Thiên Chúa chúc phúc cho chúng rằng : “Hãy sinh sôi nảy nở thật nhiều, cho đầy biển ; và chim phải sinh sản cho nhiều trên mặt đất.”

23Qua một buổi chiều và một buổi sáng : đó là ngày thứ năm.

24Thiên Chúa phán : “Đất phải sinh ra các sinh vật tuỳ theo loại : gia súc, loài bò sát và dã thú tuỳ theo loại.” Liền có như vậy.

25Thiên Chúa làm ra dã thú tuỳ theo loại, gia súc tuỳ theo loại và loài bò sát dưới đất tuỳ theo loại. Thiên Chúa thấy thế là tốt đẹp.

26Thiên Chúa phán : “Chúng ta hãy làm ra con người theo hình ảnh chúng ta, giống như chúng ta, để con người làm bá chủ cá biển, chim trời, gia súc, dã thú, tất cả mặt đất và mọi giống vật bò dưới đất.”

27Thiên Chúa sáng tạo con người có nam có nữ.

28Thiên Chúa ban phúc lành cho họ, và Thiên Chúa phán với họ : “Hãy sinh sôi nảy nở thật nhiều, cho đầy mặt đất, và thống trị mặt đất. Hãy làm bá chủ cá biển, chim trời, và mọi giống vật bò trên mặt đất.”

29Thiên Chúa phán : “Đây Ta ban cho các ngươi mọi thứ cỏ mang hạt giống trên khắp mặt đất, và mọi thứ cây có trái mang hạt giống, để làm lương thực cho các ngươi.

30Còn đối với mọi dã thú, chim trời và mọi vật bò dưới đất mà có sinh khí, thì Ta ban cho chúng mọi thứ cỏ xanh tươi để làm lương thực.” Liền có như vậy.

31Thiên Chúa thấy mọi sự Người đã làm ra quả là rất tốt đẹp ! Qua một buổi chiều và một buổi sáng : đó là ngày thứ sáu.
