2 Chronicles

1And when the kingdom of Roboam was strengthened and fortified, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.

2And in the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Sesac king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem (because they had sinned against the Lord)

3With twelve hundred chariots and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt, to wit, Libyans, and Troglodites, and Ethiopians.

4And he took the strongest cities in Juda, and came to Jerusalem.

5And Semeias the prophet came to Roboam, and to the princes of Juda, that were gathered together in Jerusalem, fleeing from Sesac, and he said to them: Thus saith the Lord: You have left me, and I have left you in the hand of Sesac.

6And the princes of Israel, and the king, being in a consternation, said: The Lord is just.

7And when the Lord saw that they were humbled, the word of the Lord came to Semeias, saying: Because they are humbled, I will not destroy them, and I will give them a little help, and my wrath shall not fall upon Jerusalem by the hand of Sesac.

8But yet they shall serve him, that they may know the difference between my service, and the service of a kingdom of the earth.

9So Sesac king of Egypt departed from Jerusalem, taking away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and of the king’s house, and he took all with him, and the golden shields that Solomon had made,

10Instead of which the king made brazen ones, and delivered them to the captains of the shieldbearers, who guarded the entrance of the palace.

11And when the king entered into the house of the Lord, the shieldbearers came and took them, and brought them back again to their armoury.

12But yet because they were humbled, the wrath of the Lord turned away from them, and they were not utterly destroyed: for even in Juda there were found good works.

13King Roboam therefore was strengthened in Jerusalem, and reigned: he was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord chose out of all the tribes of Israel, to establish his name there: and the name of his mother was Naama an Ammonitess.

14But he did evil, and did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.

15Now the acts of Roboam first and last are written in the books of Semeias the prophet, and of Addo the seer, and diligently recorded: and there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam all their days.

16And Roboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. And Abia his son reigned in his stead.

1Xảy khi nước của Rô-bô-am vừa được lập vững bền, và người được cường thạnh, thì người và cả Y-sơ-ra-ên liền bỏ luật pháp của Đức Giê-hô-va.

2Vì chúng có phạm tội cùng Đức Giê-hô-va, nên xảy ra trong năm thứ năm đời vua Rô-bô-am, Si-sắc, vua Ê-díp-tô, kéo lên hãm đánh Giê-ru-sa-lem;

3có dẫn theo một ngàn hai trăm cỗ xe và sáu vạn lính kỵ; lại có dân Li-by, dân Su-ri, và dân Ê-thi-ô-bi từ Ê-díp-tô kéo lên với người, số không thể đếm đặng.

4Si-sắc bèn chiếm lấy các thành bền vững thuộc về Giu-đa, rồi đến tận Giê-ru-sa-lem.

5Tiên tri Sê-ma-gia đến cùng Rô-bô-am và các kẻ làm đầu Giu-đa, đang nhóm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem để trốn khỏi Si-sắc, mà nói rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Các ngươi đã bỏ ta, nên ta cũng đã bỏ các ngươi vào tay Si-sắc.

6Bấy giờ, các kẻ làm đầu của Y-sơ-ra-ên và vua đều hạ mình xuống, mà nói rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va là công bình.

7Khi Đức Giê-hô-va thấy chúng hạ mình xuống, thì có lời Đức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Sê-ma-gia rằng: Chúng nó đã hạ mình xuống, ta sẽ không hủy diệt chúng nó; song sẽ giải cứu chúng một chút, và cơn giận ta sẽ chẳng cậy tay Si-sắc mà đổ ra trên Giê-ru-sa-lem;

8song chúng nó sẽ bị phục dịch hắn, hầu cho biết phục sự ta và phục dịch nước khác là có phân biệt thể nào.

9Si-sắc, vua Ê-díp-tô, kéo lên hãm đánh Giê-ru-sa-lem, đoạt lấy các bửu vật của đền Đức Giê-hô-va và cung vua: người đoạt lấy hết thảy; cũng đoạt lấy những khiên bằng vàng mà Sa-lô-môn đã làm.

10Vua Rô-bô-am bèn làm những khiên bằng đồng thế cho, và giao nơi tay các quan chánh thị vệ canh giữ cửa của cung điện vua.

11Hễ khi nào vua vào trong đền của Đức Giê-hô-va, thì các quan thị vệ cầm khiên đến, đoạn đem nó lại vào phòng của quan thị vệ.

12Khi vua hạ mình xuống, cơn giận của Đức Giê-hô-va lánh khỏi người, không diệt hết thảy; và lại trong Giu-đa còn có sự lành.

13Aáy vậy vua Rô-bô-am làm cho mình ra bền vững trong Giê-ru-sa-lem và trị vì. Vả khi Rô-bô-am lên ngôi, tuổi đã bốn mươi mốt; người cai trị mười bảy năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, tức là thành mà Đức Giê-hô-va đã chọn trong các chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, đặng đặt danh Ngài tại đó; còn mẹ người tên là Na-a-ma, người đàn bà Am-môn.

14Rô-bô-am làm điều ác, vì không rắp lòng tìm cầu Đức Giê-hô-va.

15Các công việc của Rô-bô-am từ đầu đến cuối, đều đã chép trong sách truyện của Sê-ma-gia, đấng tiên tri, trong sách Y-đô, đấng tiên kiến, luận về gia phổ. Rô-bô-am và Giê-rô-bô-am hằng đánh giặc với nhau luôn luôn.

16Rô-bô-am an giấc cùng tổ phụ mình, được chôn trong thành Đa-vít; A-bi-gia, con trai người, cai trị thế cho người.
