Esortazione ad acquistar la Sapienza e ad allontanarsi dalle vie dei peccatori

1FIGLIUOLI, ascoltate l'ammaestramento del padre; E siate attenti, per conoscer la prudenza.

2Perciocchè io vi ho data buona dottrina, Non lasciate la mia legge.

3Perciocchè io ancora sono stato figliuol di mio padre, Tenero, ed unico appresso mia madre.

4Ed esso mi ammaestrava, e mi diceva: Il tuo cuore ritenga le mie parole; Osserva i miei comandamenti, e tu viverai.

5Acquista sapienza, acquista prudenza; Non dimenticare i detti della mia bocca, e non rivolgertene indietro.

6Non abbandonar la sapienza, ed ella ti preserverà; Amala, ed ella ti guarderà.

7La sapienza è la principal cosa; acquista la sapienza; Ed al prezzo di tutti i tuoi beni, acquista la prudenza.

8Esaltala, ed ella ti innalzerà; Ella ti glorificherà, quando tu l'avrai abbracciata.

9Ella ti metterà in sul capo un fregio di grazia; E ti darà una corona d'ornamento.

10Ascolta, figliuol mio, e ricevi i miei detti; Ed anni di vita ti saranno moltiplicati.

11Io ti ho ammaestrato nella via della sapienza; Io ti ho inviato ne' sentieri della dirittura.

12Quando tu camminerai, i tuoi passi non saran ristretti; E se tu corri, tu non incapperai.

13Attienti all'ammaestramento, non lasciarlo; Guardalo, perciocchè esso è la tua vita.

14Non entrare nel sentiero degli empi; E non camminar per la via de' malvagi.

15Schifala, non passar per essa; Stornatene, e passa oltre.

16Perciocchè essi non possono dormire, se non hanno fatto qualche male; E il sonno s'invola loro, se non hanno fatto cader qualcuno.

17Conciossiachè mangino il pane dell'empietà, E bevano il vino delle violenze.

18Ma il sentiero de' giusti è come la luce che spunta, La quale va vie più risplendendo, finchè sia chiaro giorno.

19La via degli empi è come una caligine; Essi non sanno in che incappano.

20Figliuol mio, attendi alle mie parole; Inchina l'orecchio tuo a' miei detti.

21Non dipartansi quelli giammai dagli occhi tuoi; Guardali in mezzo del tuo cuore;

22Perciocchè son vita a quelli che li trovano, E sanità a tutta la lor carne.

23Sopra ogni guardia, guarda il tuo cuore; Perciocchè da esso procede la vita.

24Rimuovi da te la perversità della bocca, Ed allontana da te la perversità delle labbra.

25Gli occhi tuoi riguardino diritto davanti a te, E le tue palpebre dirizzino la lor mira dinanzi a te.

26Considera attentamente il sentiero de' tuoi piedi, E sieno addirizzate tutte le tue vie.

27Non dichinar nè a destra, nè a sinistra; Rimuovi il tuo piè dal male.

1Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

2For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

3For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

4He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

5Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

7Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

9She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

10Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

11I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

12When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

13Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

14¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

15Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

16For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

17For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

18But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

19The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

20¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

21Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

22For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

23¶ Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

24Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

25Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

26Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

27Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
