1The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

2“Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal Zephon. You shall encamp opposite it by the sea.

3Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, ‘They are entangled in the land. The wilderness has shut them in.’

4I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will follow after them; and I will get honour over Pharaoh, and over all his armies; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD.” They did so.

5The king of Egypt was told that the people had fled; and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?”

6He prepared his chariot, and took his army with him;

7and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, with captains over all of them.

8The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel; for the children of Israel went out with a high hand.

9The Egyptians pursued them. All the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal Zephon.

10When Pharaoh came near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were very afraid. The children of Israel cried out to the LORD.

11They said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us out of Egypt?

12Isn’t this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, ‘Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”

13Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today; for you will never again see the Egyptians whom you have seen today.

14The LORD will fight for you, and you shall be still.”

15The LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Speak to the children of Israel, that they go forward.

16Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. Then the children of Israel shall go into the middle of the sea on dry ground.

17Behold, I myself will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they will go in after them. I will get myself honour over Pharaoh, and over all his armies, over his chariots, and over his horsemen.

18The Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD when I have gotten myself honour over Pharaoh, over his chariots, and over his horsemen.”

19The angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them, and stood behind them.

20It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. There was the cloud and the darkness, yet it gave light by night. One didn’t come near the other all night.

21Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

22The children of Israel went into the middle of the sea on the dry ground; and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

23The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the middle of the sea: all of Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

24In the morning watch, the LORD looked out on the Egyptian army through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and confused the Egyptian army.

25He took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily; so that the Egyptians said, “Let’s flee from the face of Israel, for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians!”

26The LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.”

27Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. The LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.

28The waters returned, and covered the chariots and the horsemen, even all Pharaoh’s army that went in after them into the sea. There remained not so much as one of them.

29But the children of Israel walked on dry land in the middle of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

30Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.

31Israel saw the great work which the LORD did to the Egyptians, and the people feared the LORD; and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses.

1ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê :

2“Ngươi hãy bảo con cái Ít-ra-en quay lại đóng trại đối diện với Pi Ha-khi-rốt, giữa Mích-đôn và biển, đối diện với Ba-an Xơ-phôn ; các ngươi sẽ đóng trại ngay đằng trước đó, bên bờ biển.

3Bấy giờ Pha-ra-ô sẽ nói về con cái Ít-ra-en : ‘Chúng đi luẩn quẩn trong vùng, sa mạc nhốt chúng lại rồi.’

4Ta sẽ làm cho lòng Pha-ra-ô ra chai đá và vua ấy sẽ đuổi theo dân. Nhưng Ta sẽ được vẻ vang hiển hách vì đã đánh bại Pha-ra-ô cùng toàn thể quân lực của vua ấy, và người Ai-cập sẽ biết Ta là ĐỨC CHÚA.” Con cái Ít-ra-en đã làm như vậy.

5Có tin báo cho vua Ai-cập là dân đã chạy trốn rồi. Pha-ra-ô và bề tôi liền thay lòng đổi dạ với dân. Chúng nói : “Ta đã làm gì vậy ? Ta đã thả cho Ít-ra-en đi, thành ra bọn chúng hết làm nô lệ cho ta !”

6Nhà vua cho thắng chiến xa và đem quân đi theo.

7Vua lấy sáu trăm chiến xa tốt nhất, và tất cả các chiến xa của Ai-cập, chiếc nào cũng có chiến binh.

8ĐỨC CHÚA làm cho lòng Pha-ra-ô vua Ai-cập ra chai đá, và vua ấy đuổi theo con cái Ít-ra-en, trong khi con cái Ít-ra-en đi ra, giơ tay đắc thắng.

9Quân Ai-cập, gồm toàn thể chiến mã, chiến xa của Pha-ra-ô, kỵ binh và quân lực của vua ấy, đuổi theo và bắt kịp họ, khi họ đóng trại bên bờ biển, gần Pi Ha-khi-rốt, đối diện với Ba-an Xơ-phôn.

10Khi Pha-ra-ô tới gần, con cái Ít-ra-en ngước mắt lên thì thấy người Ai-cập tiến đến sau lưng họ. Con cái Ít-ra-en kinh hãi, liền lớn tiếng kêu cầu ĐỨC CHÚA.

11Họ nói với ông Mô-sê : “Bên Ai-cập không có đủ mồ chôn hay sao, mà ông lại đưa chúng tôi vào chết trong sa mạc ? Ông làm gì chúng tôi vậy, khi ông đưa chúng tôi ra khỏi Ai-cập ?

12Đó chẳng phải là điều chúng tôi từng nói với ông bên Ai-cập sao ? Chúng tôi đã bảo : Cứ để mặc chúng tôi làm nô lệ Ai-cập ! Thà làm nô lệ Ai-cập còn hơn chết trong sa mạc !”

13Ông Mô-sê nói với dân : “Đừng sợ ! Cứ đứng vững, rồi anh em sẽ thấy việc ĐỨC CHÚA làm hôm nay để cứu thoát anh em : những người Ai-cập anh em thấy hôm nay, không bao giờ anh em thấy lại nữa.

14ĐỨC CHÚA sẽ chiến đấu cho anh em. Anh em chỉ có việc ngồi yên.”

15ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê : “Có gì mà phải kêu cứu Ta ? Hãy bảo con cái Ít-ra-en cứ nhổ trại.

16Phần ngươi, cầm gậy lên, giơ tay trên mặt biển, rẽ nước ra cho có lối đi khô ráo ngay giữa lòng biển, để con cái Ít-ra-en đi vào.

17Còn Ta, Ta sẽ làm cho lòng người Ai-cập ra chai đá. Chúng sẽ tiến vào theo sau các ngươi. Bấy giờ Ta sẽ được vẻ vang hiển hách khi đánh bại Pha-ra-ô cùng toàn thể quân lực, chiến xa và kỵ binh của vua ấy.

18Người Ai-cập sẽ biết rằng chính Ta là ĐỨC CHÚA, khi Ta được vẻ vang hiển hách vì đã đánh bại Pha-ra-ô cùng chiến xa và kỵ binh của vua ấy.”

19Thiên sứ của Thiên Chúa đang đi trước hàng ngũ Ít-ra-en, lại rời chỗ mà xuống đi đằng sau họ. Cột mây bỏ phía trước mà đứng về phía sau,

20chen vào giữa hàng ngũ Ai-cập và hàng ngũ Ít-ra-en. Bên kia, mây toả mịt mù, bên này, mây lại sáng soi đêm tối, khiến cho hai bên suốt đêm không xáp lại gần nhau được.

21Ông Mô-sê giơ tay trên mặt biển, ĐỨC CHÚA cho một cơn gió đông thổi mạnh suốt đêm, dồn biển lại, khiến biển hoá thành đất khô cạn. Nước rẽ ra,

22và con cái Ít-ra-en đi vào giữa lòng biển khô cạn, nước sừng sững như tường thành hai bên tả hữu.

23Quân Ai-cập đuổi theo ; toàn thể chiến mã, chiến xa và kỵ binh của Pha-ra-ô tiến vào giữa lòng biển, đằng sau dân Ít-ra-en.

24Vào lúc gần sáng, từ cột lửa và mây, ĐỨC CHÚA nhìn xuống hàng ngũ Ai-cập, Người gây rối loạn trong hàng ngũ chúng.

25Người làm cho chiến xa kẹt bánh, khiến chúng phải vất vả mới di chuyển nổi. Quân Ai-cập bảo nhau : “Ta phải trốn bọn Ít-ra-en, vì ĐỨC CHÚA chiến đấu chống lại người Ai-cập để giúp họ.”

26ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Mô-sê : “Hãy giơ tay trên mặt biển, nước sẽ ập xuống trên quân Ai-cập cùng với chiến xa và kỵ binh của chúng.”

27Ông Mô-sê giơ tay trên mặt biển, và biển ập lại như cũ, vào lúc tảng sáng. Quân Ai-cập đang chạy trốn thì gặp nước biển, ĐỨC CHÚA xô ngã quân Ai-cập giữa lòng biển.

28Nước ập xuống, vùi lấp chiến xa và kỵ binh, vùi lấp toàn thể quân lực của Pha-ra-ô đã theo dân Ít-ra-en đi vào lòng biển. Không một tên nào sống sót.

29Còn con cái Ít-ra-en đã đi giữa lòng biển khô cạn, nước sừng sững như tường thành hai bên tả hữu.

30Ngày đó, ĐỨC CHÚA đã cứu Ít-ra-en khỏi tay quân Ai-cập. Ít-ra-en thấy quân Ai-cập phơi thây trên bờ biển.

31Ít-ra-en thấy ĐỨC CHÚA đã ra tay hùng mạnh đánh quân Ai-cập. Toàn dân kính sợ ĐỨC CHÚA, tin vào ĐỨC CHÚA, tin vào ông Mô-sê, tôi trung của Người.
