3Các môn đồ của những tiên tri ở tại Bê-tên đến nói với Ê-li-sê rằng: Anh có biết rằng ngày nay Đức Giê-hô-va sẽ cất thầy của anh lên khỏi anh chăng? Người đáp: Phải, ta biết; các ngươi hãy làm thinh đi!

6Ê-li nói với người rằng Ta xin ngươi hãy ở đây, vì Đức Giê-hô-va sai ta đi đến Giô-đanh. Ê-li-sê thưa rằng: Tôi chỉ Đức Giê-hô-va hằng sống và chỉ mạng sống thầy mà thề rằng, tôi chẳng hề lìa khỏi thầy. Như vậy, hai người cứ đi với nhau.
7Có năm mươi người trong các môn đồ của những tiên tri đi theo, đứng cách xa đối ngang Giô-đanh; còn Ê-li và Ê-li-sê đứng lại tại mé sông.
8Ê-li bèn lấy áo tơi mình, cuốn lại, đập trên nước; nước bèn rẽ ra hai bên, và hai người đều đi ngang qua trên đất khô.
9Khi đi qua rồi, Ê-li nói với Ê-li-sê rằng: Hãy xin điều ngươi muốn ta làm cho ngươi, trước khi ta được cất lên khỏi ngươi. Ê-li-sê thưa rằng: Nguyền xin thần của thầy cảm động tôi được bội phần.
10Ê-li nói với người rằng: Ngươi cầu xin một sự khó. Song nếu ngươi thấy ta lúc ta được cất lên khỏi ngươi, ắt sẽ được như lời bằng chẳng, thì không được.
11Hai người cứ vừa đi vừa nói với nhau, kìa, có một cái xe lửa và ngựa lửa phân rẽ hai người; Ê-li lên trời trong một cơn gió lốc.
12Ê-li-sê nhìn thấy, bèn la lên rằng: Cha tôi ôi! cha tôi ôi! là xe và lính kỵ của Y-sơ-ra-ên! Đoạn, Ê-li-sê không còn thấy người nữa; rồi người nắm áo mình xé ra làm hai mảnh.
13Ê-li-sê bèn lấy cái áo tơi đã ở nơi mình Ê-li rơi xuống, trở về, đứng tại trên mé Giô-đanh.
14Người lấy cái áo tơi đã ở nơi mình Ê-li rơi xuống, đập nước, và nói rằng: Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của Ê-li ở đâu? Khi người đã đập nước rồi, nước bèn rẽ ra hai bên, và Ê-li-sê đi ngang qua.
15Khi các môn đồ của những tiên tri ở Giê-ri-cô đối ngang Giô-đanh, thấy Ê-li-sê, thì nói rằng: Thần Ê-li đổ trên Ê-li-sê. Họ đến đón người, sấp mình xuống đất trước mặt người,
16và nói với người rằng: Tại đây, giữa các tôi tớ thầy, có năm mươi người mạnh dạn; hãy cho phép họ đi tìm chủ thầy; có lẽ Thần của Đức Giê-hô-va đem người đi, ném trên núi nào hay là trong trũng nào chăng? Ê-li-sê đáp: Chớ sai họ đi.
17Nhưng chúng nài ép người, đến đỗi người xấu hổ, bèn nói rằng: Hãy sai họ đi đi. Chúng liền sai năm mươi người đi tìm Ê-li trong ba ngày, mà tìm chẳng đặng.
18Chúng trở về, Ê-li-sê vẫn ở tại Giê-ri-cô; người bèn nói với họ rằng: Ta há chẳng bảo các ngươi chớ có đi sao?
19Dân cư của Giê-ri-cô nói cùng Ê-li-sê rằng: Chỗ xây cất thành này tốt lắm y như chúa tôi thấy; nhưng nước thì độc và đất thì chai.
20Người đáp: Hãy đem cho ta một cái bình mới, và đựng muối ở trong. Chúng đem bình đến cho người.
21Người bèn đi đến nguồn nước, đổ muối xuống nước, mà nói rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Ta đã chữa lành cho nước này, tự nó sẽ chẳng còn gây ra sự chết, hoặc sự nân nữa.
22Vậy, theo lời của Ê-li-sê phán ra, nước được chữa lành còn đến ngày nay.
23Từ đó, Ê-li-sê đi lên Bê-tên. Đang đi dọc đường, có những trẻ con trai ở thành ra nhạo báng người, mà rằng: ù lão trọc, hãy lên! ù lão trọc, hãy lên!
24Người xây lại ngó chúng nó, và nhân danh Đức Giê-hô-va mà rủa sả chúng nó. Liền có hai con gấu cái ra khỏi rừng, cấu xé bốn mươi hai đứa trong bọn chúng nó.
25Từ đó Ê-li-sê đi đến núi Cạt-mên; đoạn từ nơi ấy người trở về Sa-ma-ri.
Elijah Taken Up to Heaven
1Shortly before the LORD took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal,
2and Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to Bethel.” But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.
3Then the sons of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you today?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”
4And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to Jericho.” But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.
5Then the sons of the prophets at Jericho came up to Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you today?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”
6And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to the Jordan.” But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on.
7Then a company of fifty of the sons of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing Elijah and Elisha as the two of them stood by the Jordan.
8And Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up, and struck the waters, which parted to the right and to the left, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.
9After they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken away from you?” “Please, let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
10“You have requested a difficult thing,” said Elijah. “Nevertheless, if you see me as I am taken from you, it will be yours. But if not, then it will not be so.”
11As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire with horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up into heaven in a whirlwind.
12As Elisha watched, he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And he saw Elijah no more. So taking hold of his own clothes, he tore them in two.
13Elisha also picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah, and he went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.
14Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the waters. “Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” he asked. And when he had struck the waters, they parted to the right and to the left, and Elisha crossed over.
Elisha Succeeds Elijah
15When the sons of the prophets who were watching him from Jericho saw what had happened, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed down to the ground before him.
16“Look now,” they said to Elisha, “we your servants have fifty valiant men. Please let them go and search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not send them,” Elisha replied.
17But when they pressed him to the point of embarrassment, he said, “Send them.” And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find Elijah.
18When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you not to go?”
Elisha Heals the Waters of Jericho
19Then the men of the city said to Elisha, “Please note, our lord, that the city’s location is good, as you can see. But the water is bad and the land is unfruitful.”
20“Bring me a new bowl,” he replied, “and put some salt in it.” So they brought it to him,
21and Elisha went out to the spring, cast the salt into it, and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘I have healed this water. No longer will it cause death or unfruitfulness.’”
22And the waters there have been healthy to this day, according to the word spoken by Elisha.
Elisha Mocked
23From there, Elisha went up to Bethel, and as he was walking up the road, a group of boyscame out of the city and jeered at him, chanting, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!”
24Then he turned around, looked at them, and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Suddenly two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.
25And Elisha went on to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
