1Vinh dự đến với người khờ dại,cũng hiếm như mưa ngày mùa, như tuyết tháng hạ.

2Lời nguyền rủa vô cớ chẳng tới đâu,như chim sẻ bay đi, chim én liệng lại.

3Roi dành cho ngựa, cương cho lừa,đòn vọt cho lưng đứa ngu si.

4Đừng đối đáp người khờ dại như sự khờ dại của nó,kẻo con cũng giống như nó.

5Phải dùng lý luận ngớ ngẩn đáp người khờ dại,để nó đừng thấy như là nó khôn.

6Dùng một đần truyền tin tức,chẳng khác gì tự đầu độc, tự chặt chân.

7Châm ngôn trong miệng người khờ dại,khác nào chân bại trong thân thể người què.

8Ca tụng người khờ dạinhư cột đá vào ná.

9Châm ngôn trong miệng người ngu dại,như cành gai trong tay người say.

10Mướn người dại, người lang thang làm lụng,họ sẽ như người cầm cung bắn phá tứ tung.

11Người ngu lặp lại điều khờ dại nó đã trót làm,như chó mửa ra rồi liếm lại.

12Một người tự phụ cho mình là khôn,còn tệ hại hơn một người đần độn.

13Người lười biếng nói rằng: “Có con sư tử ngoài đường!Một con sư tử gầm thét ngoài phố!”

14Cửa xoay trên bản lề thể nào,người lười biếng cũng xoay trở trên giường thể ấy.

15Người biếng nhác đặt tay mình vào đĩa,nhưng rồi thôi, không đưa lên miệng mình.

16Tuy nhiên, hắn tự cho rằng mình khôn ngoanhơn bảy người thông sáng khác.

17Người đi ngoài đường thấy đám cãi nhau,vô cớ mà can thiệp, khác nào kéo tai con chó vậy.

18Người nào lừa gạt bạn mìnhrồi nói rằng: “Tôi chỉ đùa thôi.”

19Cũng như người điên ném than lửa,bắn tên gây chết chóc.

20Không có lửa nếu không củi, không dầu,không bất bình nếu không nói hành, nói xấu.

21Người nhanh giận nhạy chuyện rầy rà,như than, như củi, mau cháy bùng ra.

22Lời rỉ tai như của ngon vật lạ,nuốt vào, thỏa lòng mát dạ.

23Lời hoa mỹ che đậy lòng độc ác,như lớp men bóng bẩy bao ngoài bình đất rẻ tiền.

24Người quỷ quyệt dùng lời xảo trá,nhưng trong lòng chất chứa gian manh.

25Khi nó nói lời dịu ngọt đừng tin,vì lòng nó chứa bảy điều gớm ghiếc.

26Chúng nói nhân nói nghĩa đủ điều,nhưng bộ mặt thật sẽ phô bày nơi công chúng.

27Ai gài bẫy sẽ rơi vào bẫy,lăn đá hại người, lại bị đá đè nát thân.

28Nói dối, nói nịnh người nó chẳng thương,gây nên tai hại khôn lường?

1Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest,so honor is not fitting for a fool.

2Like a fluttering sparrow,like a darting swallow, so the undeserved curse doesn’t come to rest.

3A whip is for the horse,a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools!

4Don’t answer a fool according to his folly,lest you also be like him.

5Answer a fool according to his folly,lest he be wise in his own eyes.

6One who sends a message by the hand of a foolis cutting off feet and drinking violence.

10As an archer who wounds all,so is he who hires a fool or he who hires those who pass by.

11As a dog that returns to his vomit,so is a fool who repeats his folly.

12Do you see a man wise in his own eyes?There is more hope for a fool than for him.

13The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road!A fierce lion roams the streets!”

14As the door turns on its hinges,so does the sluggard on his bed.

15The sluggard buries his hand in the dish.He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.

16The sluggard is wiser in his own eyesthan seven men who answer with discretion.

17Like one who grabs a dog’s earsis one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.

18Like a madman who shoots torches, arrows, and death,

19is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, “Am I not joking?”

20For lack of wood a fire goes out.Without gossip, a quarrel dies down.

21As coals are to hot embers,and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife.

22The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels,they go down into the innermost parts.

23Like silver dross on an earthen vesselare the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart.

24A malicious man disguises himself with his lips,but he harbors evil in his heart.

25When his speech is charming, don’t believe him,for there are seven abominations in his heart.

26His malice may be concealed by deception,but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

27Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it.Whoever rolls a stone, it will come back on him.

28A lying tongue hates those it hurts;and a flattering mouth works ruin.
