Mục Đích của Châm Ngôn

1Đây là những châm ngôn của Sa-lô-môn, con trai Đa-vít, vua Ít-ra-ên.

2Để người ta tìm đến khôn ngoan và tiếp thu lời khuyên dạy,cùng phân biện được tri thức.

3Để đạt đến một đời sống kỷ luật và cẩn trọng,hành động phải lẽ, công bằng, và ngay thẳng.

4Để giúp người đơn sơ được sáng suốt,và người trẻ tuổi hiểu biết và thận trọng.

5Người khôn học hỏi châm ngôn để thêm khôn.Người hiểu biết thấy được đường đi nước bước

6nếu biết ứng dụng châm ngôn, ngụ ngôndùng những lời khôn ngoan và những câu đố thâm trầm của hiền nhân.

7Kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu là khởi đầu của mọi tri thức,chỉ có người dại mới coi thường khôn ngoan và huấn thị.

Lời Khuyên của Người Cha: Tìm Kiếm Sự Khôn Ngoan

8Con ơi, phải nghe lời cha khuyên dạy.Đừng bỏ khuôn phép của mẹ con.

9Đó là trang sức duyên dáng trên đầu convà dây chuyền xinh đẹp nơi cổ con.

10Con ơi, khi người tội lỗi quyến rũ,con đừng nghe theo!

11Khi họ bảo: “Hãy đến với chúng ta.Rình rập và giết người! Lén hại người lương thiện vô tội!

12Ta sẽ nuốt sống nó như âm phủ;nuốt trọn như người xuống huyệt sâu.

13Ta sẽ lấy đủ mọi của báu.Chất của cướp đầy nhà.

14Bạn sẽ cùng chúng ta rút thăm chia của;rồi tất cả đều chung một túi tiền.”

15Thì con ơi, đừng nghe theo họ!Chân con phải tránh xa đường họ đi.

16Vì họ nhanh chân theo điều ác.Vội vàng ra tay đổ máu.

17Khi người giăng lưới bắt chim,chim khôn bay thoát.

18Nhưng bọn người này tự giăng bẫy;rồi sa vào bẫy do chính mình giăng ra.

19Đó là số phận người ham lợi bất nghĩa;lợi ấy sẽ tiêu diệt mạng sống họ.

Sự Khôn Ngoan Kêu Lên Ngoài Đường

20Khôn ngoan lên tiếng ngoài đường.Loan truyền khắp phố phường.

21Kêu gọi nơi công cộng,tại cổng thành, trong đô thị:

22“Hỡi người khờ dại, đến bao giờngươi mới thôi chìm đắm u mê?Đến khi nào người chế nhạo mới bỏ thói khinh khi?Và người dại thù ghét tri thức đến chừng nào?

23Hãy đến và nghe ta sửa dạy.Ta sẽ ban thần trí khôn ngoan để con thông suốt lời ta.

24Nhưng, dù ta kêu gọi, các ngươi vẫn từ nan.Ta đưa tay chờ đợi, cũng không ai quan tâm.

25Không ai để ý lời ta khuyên rănhay chịu nghe lời ta quở trách.

26Nên khi các người lâm nạn, ta sẽ cười!Và chế giễu khi các người kinh hãi—

27khi kinh hoàng vụt đến tựa phong ba,khi tai ương xâm nhập như bão tố, và nguy nan cùng khổ ngập tràn.

28Họ sẽ kêu cầu ta, nhưng ta chẳng đáp lời.Họ sẽ tìm kiếm ta, nhưng không sao gặp được.

29Chính vì họ thù ghét tri thứcvà không chịu kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu.

30Họ không muốn nghe ta khuyên dạyvà khinh bỉ mọi lời quở trách.

31Vì thế, họ sẽ hứng chịu kết quả công việc mình,lãnh trọn quả báo mưu mô mình.

32Người ngây thơ chết vì lầm đường lạc lối.Người dại dột bị diệt vì tự thị tự mãn.

33Nhưng ai nghe ta sẽ sống bình an,không lo tai họa.”

1Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:

2For knowing wisdom and instruction, For understanding sayings of intelligence,

3For receiving the instruction of wisdom, Righteousness, judgment, and uprightness,

4For giving to simple ones — prudence, To a youth — knowledge and discretion.

5(The wise doth hear and increaseth learning, And the intelligent doth obtain counsels.)

6For understanding a proverb and its sweetness, Words of the wise and their acute sayings.

7Fear of Jehovah [is] a beginning of knowledge, Wisdom and instruction fools have despised!

8Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, And leave not the law of thy mother,

9For a graceful wreath [are] they to thy head, And chains to thy neck.

10My son, if sinners entice thee be not willing.

11If they say, 'Come with us, we lay wait for blood, We watch secretly for the innocent without cause,

12We swallow them as Sheol — alive, And whole — as those going down [to] the pit,

13Every precious substance we find, We fill our houses [with] spoil,

14Thy lot thou dost cast among us, One purse is — to all of us.'

15My son! go not in the way with them, Withhold thy foot from their path,

16For their feet to evil do run, And they haste to shed blood.

17Surely in vain is the net spread out before the eyes of any bird.

18And they for their own blood lay wait, They watch secretly for their own lives.

19So [are] the paths of every gainer of dishonest gain, The life of its owners it taketh.

20Wisdom in an out-place crieth aloud, In broad places she giveth forth her voice,

21At the head of the multitudes she calleth, In the openings of the gates, In the city her sayings she saith:

22'Till when, ye simple, do ye love simplicity? And have scorners their scorning desired? And do fools hate knowledge?

23Turn back at my reproof, lo, I pour forth to you my spirit, I make known my words with you.

24Because I have called, and ye refuse, I stretched out my hand, and none is attending,

25And ye slight all my counsel, And my reproof ye have not desired.

26I also in your calamity do laugh, I deride when your fear cometh,

27When your fear cometh as destruction, And your calamity as a hurricane doth come, When on you come adversity and distress.

28Then they call me, and I do not answer, They seek me earnestly, and find me not.

29Because that they have hated knowledge, And the fear of Jehovah have not chosen.

30They have not consented to my counsel, They have despised all my reproof,

31And they eat of the fruit of their way, And from their own counsels they are filled.

32For the turning of the simple slayeth them, And the security of the foolish destroyeth them.

33And whoso is hearkening to me dwelleth confidently, And [is] quiet from fear of evil!'
