1 Samuel

1Người ta báo tin cho ông Đa-vít biết rằng : “Kìa người Phi-li-tinh đang tấn công Cơ-i-la và cướp phá các sân lúa.”

2Ông thỉnh ý ĐỨC CHÚA rằng : “Con có nên đi không và có đánh bại được những tên Phi-li-tinh này không ?” ĐỨC CHÚA phán với ông Đa-vít : “Cứ đi, ngươi sẽ đánh bại người Phi-li-tinh và cứu được Cơ-i-la.”

3Người của ông Đa-vít nói với ông : “Ở đây, tại Giu-đa, mà chúng ta còn sợ hãi, huống chi là đi Cơ-i-la, xông vào trận tuyến người Phi-li-tinh !”

4Ông Đa-vít lại thỉnh ý ĐỨC CHÚA một lần nữa. ĐỨC CHÚA trả lời ông rằng : “Đứng lên ! Hãy xuống Cơ-i-la, vì Ta sắp trao người Phi-li-tinh vào tay ngươi.”

5Ông Đa-vít cùng với người của ông đi Cơ-i-la ; ông tấn công người Phi-li-tinh, dẫn những bầy gia súc của chúng đi và đánh chúng một đòn đau. Thế là ông Đa-vít cứu được dân thành Cơ-i-la.

6Khi ông Ép-gia-tha, con ông A-khi-me-léc, trốn đến với ông Đa-vít, ông đã xuống Cơ-i-la, tay cầm ê-phốt.

7Người ta báo tin cho vua Sa-un là ông Đa-vít đã vào Cơ-i-la, vua Sa-un nói : “Thiên Chúa đã nộp nó vào tay ta, vì nó đã tự nhốt mình khi vào một thành có cửa đóng then cài.”

8Vua Sa-un triệu tập toàn dân đi giao chiến để xuống Cơ-i-la vây ông Đa-vít và người của ông.

9Ông Đa-vít biết rằng chính để hại ông mà vua Sa-un đang ngầm mưu điều ác, ông bảo tư tế Ép-gia-tha : “Đem ê-phốt lại đây !”

10Ông Đa-vít thưa : “Lạy ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, tôi tớ Ngài đây đã nghe nói rằng vì con, vua Sa-un đang tìm cách đến Cơ-i-la để phá huỷ thành này.

11Các thân hào Cơ-i-la có nộp con vào tay vua không ? Vua Sa-un có xuống, như tôi tớ Ngài đã nghe nói không ? Lạy ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en, xin cho tôi tớ Ngài biết.” ĐỨC CHÚA phán : “Nó sẽ xuống.”

12Ông Đa-vít lại hỏi : “Các thân hào Cơ-i-la có nộp con và người của con vào tay vua Sa-un không ?” ĐỨC CHÚA phán : “Chúng sẽ nộp.”

13Ông Đa-vít đứng lên cùng với người của ông, khoảng chừng sáu trăm người ; họ ra khỏi Cơ-i-la và đi lang thang. Người ta báo cho vua Sa-un là ông Đa-vít đã trốn thoát khỏi Cơ-i-la, và vua thôi không ra trận nữa.

14Ông Đa-vít ở trong sa mạc, trên các đỉnh núi ; ông ở trong núi, trong sa mạc Díp. Trong suốt thời gian ấy, vua Sa-un tìm ông, nhưng Thiên Chúa không trao ông vào tay vua.

15Ông Đa-vít thấy rằng vua Sa-un đã ra trận để tìm hại mạng sống ông. Ông Đa-vít ở trong sa mạc Díp, tại Khoóc-sa.

16Ông Giô-na-than, con vua Sa-un, lên đường, đến gặp ông Đa-vít tại Khoóc-sa và khuyến khích ông nhân danh Thiên Chúa.

17Ông nói với ông Đa-vít : “Anh đừng sợ, vì bàn tay vua Sa-un, cha tôi, sẽ không đụng tới anh được. Chính anh sẽ làm vua cai trị Ít-ra-en, còn tôi sẽ làm phó cho anh ; cả vua Sa-un, cha tôi, cũng biết như thế.”

18Hai người lập giao ước trước nhan ĐỨC CHÚA. Ông Đa-vít ở lại Khoóc-sa, còn ông Giô-na-than thì đi về nhà.

19Có những người vùng Díp lên gặp vua Sa-un tại Ghíp-a và thưa : “Đa-vít chẳng trốn giữa chúng tôi, ở những đỉnh núi, tại Khoóc-sa, trên đồi Kha-khi-la ở phía nam hoang địa đó sao ?

20Bây giờ, thưa đức vua, khi nào ngài muốn xuống thì xin cứ xuống. Phận sự của chúng tôi là nộp nó vào tay đức vua.”

21Vua Sa-un nói : “Xin ĐỨC CHÚA chúc phúc cho các ngươi, vì các ngươi đã động lòng thương xót tôi.

22Các ngươi hãy đi, điều tra nữa cho chắc chắn ; hãy tìm cho biết và xem nó đặt chân ở đâu, có ai đã thấy nó ở đấy không, vì người ta nói với tôi rằng nó xảo quyệt lắm.

23Các ngươi hãy xem và tìm cho biết hết những nơi nó ẩn, những chỗ nó núp. Khi đã chắc rồi, thì hãy trở lại gặp ta, và ta sẽ đi với các ngươi. Nếu như nó có ở trong xứ, thì ta sẽ truy nã nó trong mọi thị tộc Giu-đa.”

24Họ lên đường và đi Díp trước vua Sa-un. Ông Đa-vít và người của ông thì ở trong sa mạc Ma-ôn, trong thung lũng phía nam hoang địa.

25Vua Sa-un và người của vua đi tìm ông. Người ta báo tin cho ông Đa-vít, ông xuống Tảng Đá và ở trong sa mạc Ma-ôn. Vua Sa-un nghe biết thì đuổi theo ông Đa-vít trong sa mạc Ma-ôn.

26Vua Sa-un đi phía sườn núi bên này, còn ông Đa-vít và người của ông đi phía sườn núi bên kia. Ông Đa-vít vội vàng ra đi để thoát vua Sa-un. Vua Sa-un và người của vua đang bao vây ông Đa-vít và người của ông để bắt họ,

27thì một người đưa tin đến nói với vua Sa-un : “Xin đức vua đến mau, vì người Phi-li-tinh đã tràn vào xứ.”

28Vua Sa-un thôi không đuổi theo ông Đa-vít nữa, để ra nghênh chiến với người Phi-li-tinh. Vì thế người ta gọi chỗ ấy là Tảng Đá Phân Ly.

1And they told David, saying: Behold the Philistines fight against Ceila, and they rob the barns.

2Therefore David consulted the Lord, saying: Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said to David: Go, and thou shalt smite the Philistines, and shalt save Ceila.

3And the men that were with David, said to him: Behold we are in fear here in Judea, how much more if we go to Ceila against the hands of the Philistines?

4Therefore David consulted the Lord again. And he answered and said to him: Arise, and go to Ceila: for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hand.

5David therefore, and his men, went to Ceila, and fought against the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and made a great slaughter of them: and David saved the inhabitants of Ceila.

6Now at that time, when Abiathar the son of Achimelech fled to David to Ceila, he came down having an ephod with him.

7And it was told Saul that David was come to Ceila: and Saul said: The Lord hath delivered him into my hands, and he is shut up, being come into a city, that hath gates and bars.

8And Saul commanded all the people to go down to fight against Ceila, and to besiege David, and his men.

9Now when David understood, that Saul secretly prepared evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest: Bring hither the ephod.

10And David said: O Lord God of Israel, thy servant hath heard a report, that Saul designeth to come to Ceila, to destroy the city for my sake:

11Will the men of Ceila deliver me into his hands? and will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O Lord God of Israel, tell thy servant. And the Lord said: He will come down.

12And David said: Will the men of Ceila deliver me, and my men, into the hands of Saul? And the Lord said: They will deliver thee up.

13Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose, and departing from Ceila, wandered up and down uncertain where they should stay: and it was told Saul that David was fled from Ceila, and had escaped: wherefore he forbore to go out.

14But David abode in the desert in strong holds, and he remained in a mountain of the desert of Ziph, in a woody hill. And Saul sought him always: but the Lord delivered him not into his hands.

15And David saw that Saul was come out to seek his life. And David was in the desert of Ziph, in a wood.

16And Jonathan the son of Saul arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hands in God: and he said to him:

17Fear not: for the hand of my father Saul shall not find thee, and thou shalt reign over Israel, and I shall be next to thee, yea, and my father knoweth this.

18And the two made a covenant before the Lord: and David abode in the wood: but Jonathan returned to his house.

19And the Ziphites went up to Saul in Gabaa, saying: Lo, doth not David lie hid with us in the strong holds of the wood, in mount Hachila, which is on the right hand of the desert.

20Now therefore come down, as thy soul hath desired to come down: and it shall be our business to deliver him into the king’s hands.

21And Saul said: Blessed be ye of the Lord, for you have pitied my case.

22Go therefore, I pray you, and use all diligence, and curiously inquire, and consider the place where his foot is, and who hath seen him there: for he thinketh of me, that I lie craftily in wait for him.

23Consider and see all his lurking holes, wherein he is bid, and return to me with the certainty of the thing, that I may go with you. And if be should even go down into the earth to hide himself, I will search him out in all the thousands of Juda.

24And they arose and went to Ziph before Saul: and David and his men were in the desert of Maon, in the plain at the right hand of Jesimon.

25Then Saul and his men went to seek him: and it was told David, and forthwith he went down to the rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon: and when Saul had heard of it he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

26And Saul went on this side of the mountain: and David and his men were on the other side of the mountain: and David despaired of being able to escape from the face of Saul: and Saul and his men encompassed David and his men round about to take them.

27And a messenger came to Saul, saying: Make haste to come, for the Philistines have poured in themselves upon the land.

28Wherefore Saul returned, leaving the pursuit of David, and went to meet the Philistines. For this cause they called that place, the Rock of division.
