2 Kings

1And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

2Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

3And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

4So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

5But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

6And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

7Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

8¶ Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

9And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

10And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

11Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

12And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

13¶ And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

14Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

15And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?

16And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.

17And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

18And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

19¶ And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

20And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

21And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

22And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

23And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

24¶ And it came to pass after this, that Ben-hadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.

25And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass’s head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.

26And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.

27And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?

28And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.

29So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

30¶ And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

31Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

32But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?

33And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

1Các môn đồ của những tiên tri nói với Ê-li-sê rằng: Nơi chúng tôi ở trước mặt thầy là hẹp quá cho chúng tôi.

2Xin để chúng tôi đi đến Giô-đanh, ai nấy sẽ đốn một cây đòn tay, rồi tại đó cất một nơi ở cho chúng tôi. Ê-li-sê đáp: Hãy đi.

3Một người tiếp rằng; Tôi xin thầy hãy đi cùng các tôi tớ thầy. Người đáp:

4Ta sẽ đi. Vậy, người đi với họ. Đến Giô-đanh, họ khởi đốn cây.

5Nhưng có một người đang đốn cây, cái lưỡi rìu văng xuống nước. người la lên rằng: ù chúa tôi! than ôi! tôi có mượn nó!

6Người của Đức Chúa Trời hỏi rằng: Nó rớt ở đâu? Người chỉ chỗ cho. Ê-li-sê bèn chặt một khúc cây quăng xuống tại chỗ đó, làm cho lưỡi rìu nổi lên,

7và biểu người ấy rằng: Hãy lấy nó đi. Người ấy bèn giơ tay ra và lấy nó.

8Vả, vua Sy-ri giao chiến với Y-sơ-ra-ên; người thương nghị với các tôi tớ mình, mà rằng: Ta sẽ đóng trại ta tại nơi nọ nơi kia.

9Người của Đức Chúa Trời bèn sai nói với vua Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng; Khá giữ lấy, chớ đi ngang qua chỗ kia, vì dân Sy-ri phục tại đó.

10Vậy, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên sai người đến nơi mà người Đức Chúa Trời đã chỉ cho mình và bảo trước; người giữ lấy mình tại đó, chẳng những một hai lần.

11Lòng vua Sy-ri bối rối về sự ấy, bèn gọi các tôi tớ mình, mà nói rằng; Các ngươi há không tỏ cho ta, ai trong chúng ta là người giúp đỡ vua Y-sơ-ra-ên?

12Một người trong những tôi tớ thưa rằng: Oâi vua chúa tôi! chẳng ai trong chúng tôi hết; nhưng Ê-li-sê, tiên tri trong Y-sơ-ra-ên, tỏ cho vua Y-sơ-ra-ên biết các lời vua nói trong phòng ngủ mình.

13Vua bèn bảo rằng: Hãy đi xem người ở đâu, để ta sai bắt người. Có người đến thuật cho vua rằng: Kìa, người ở tại Đô-than.

14Vì vậy, vua sai ngựa, xe, và một đạo binh rất đông đến Đô-than; họ tới nơi lúc ban đêm, và vây thành.

15Tôi tớ của người Đức Chúa Trời chổi dậy sáng sớm đi ra, thấy một đạo binh cùng ngựa và xe đang vây thành. Người nói với Ê-li-sê rằng: Hỡi ôi! chúa, chúng ta sẽ làm sao?

16Ê-li-sê đáp rằng: Chớ sợ, những người ở với chúng ta đông hơn những người ở với chúng nó.

17Đoạn, Ê-li-sê cầu nguyện mà rằng: Đức Giê-hô-va ôi, xin mở mắt kẻ tôi tớ tôi, để nó thấy được. Đức Giê-hô-va mở mắt người ra, thì người thấy núi đầy những ngựa và xe bằng lửa ở chung quanh Ê-li-sê.

18Quân Sy-ri kéo xuống nơi Ê-li-sê; người cầu nguyện Đức Giê-hô-va rằng: Xin Chúa khiến mắt quân ấy bị đui mù. Đức Chúa Trời bèn khiến chúng đui mù, theo như lời cầu nguyện của Ê-li-sê.

19Đoạn, Ê-li-sê nói với chúng nó rằng; Đây không phải là đường, đây chẳng phải là thành. Hãy theo ta, ta sẽ dẫn các ngươi đến người mà các ngươi tìm kiếm. Rồi người dẫn chúng nó đến Sa-ma-ri.

20Khi chúng nó đã vào trong Sa-ma-ri rồi, Ê-li-sê cầu rằng: Lạy Đức Giê-hô-va, xin mở mắt cho chúng nó thấy. Đức Giê-hô-va bèn mở mắt họ, họ thấy mình ở giữa Sa-ma-ri.

21Vua Y-sơ-ra-ên thấy chúng nó, thì nói với Ê-li-sê rằng: Hỡi cha! phải đánh chúng nó chăng? phải đánh chúng nó chăng.

22Ê-li-sê đáp rằng: Chớ đánh. Những người vua dùng gươm và cung mà bắt làm phu tù, vua há đánh sao? Hãy dọn trước mặt chúng bánh và rượu, để cho chúng ăn và uống, rồi trở về cùng chủ mình.

23Người bèn bày tiệc lớn cho chúng nó; khi chúng nó đã ăn uống rồi, người tha cho chúng nó đi; chúng nó bèn trở về cùng chủ mình. Từ đó về sau, những toán quân Sy-ri không còn loán đến địa phận Y-sơ-ra-ên nữa.

24Sau các điều đó, Bên-Ha-đát, vua Sy-ri, nhóm cả đạo binh mình, đi lên vây thành Sa-ma-ri.

25Trong Sa-ma-ri đang có sự đói kém lớn lắm, thành bị vây hãm lâu ngày, đến đỗi một cái đầu lừa bán tám mươi siếc lơ bạc, và một góc tư ô phân bò câu bán năm siếc lơ bạc.

26Khi vua Y-sơ-ra-ên đi ngang qua trên tường thành, có một người đàn bà kêu người rằng: Oâi vua chúa tôi, xin cứu tôi!

27Vua nói: Nếu Đức Giê-hô-va không cứu ngươi, thì ta lấy đâu đặng cứu ngươi? Bởi sân đạp lúa hay là bởi nơi ép rượu sao?

28Vua lại rằng: Ngươi có chi? Nàng thưa rằng: Đàn bà này nói với tôi rằng: Hãy cho con trai chị, hầu ngày nay chúng ta ăn thịt nó; ngày mai chúng ta sẽ ăn thịt con trai ta.

29Vậy, chúng tôi có nấu thịt con trai tôi và ăn. Ngày mai tôi có nói với người rằng: Hãy cho con trai chị, hầu chúng ta ăn nó. Nhưng người có giấu con trai mình.

30Khi vua nghe lời của người đàn bà này, thì xé quần áo mình. Bấy giờ, người đang đi ngang qua trên tường thành, dân sự xem thấy người phía trong mặc cái bao sát vào thịt mình.

31Vua la lên rằng: Nếu ngày nay đầu của Ê-li-sê, con trai của Sa-phát, hãy còn ở trên vai nó, nguyện Đức Chúa Trời xử ta cách nặng nề!

32Ê-li-sê đang ngồi trong nhà mình, và các trưởng lão ngồi chung quanh người, thì vua sai một sứ giả đi trước mình đến cùng tiên tri. Nhưng khi sứ giả chưa đến, Ê-li-sê nói với các trưởng lão rằng: Kìa, hãy xem, con kẻ sát nhân kia sai người đến đặng cắt đầu ta. Khá coi chừng: vừa khi sứ giả đến, hãy đóng cửa lại, dùng cửa xô đuổi nó đi. Các ngươi há chẳng nghe tiếng bước của chủ nó sau lưng nó sao?

33Người còn đang nói, chúng thấy sứ giả đến. Vua cũng đến, nói với Ê-li-sê rằng: Tai nạn này đến bởi Đức Giê-hô-va. Vậy, ta còn trông cậy nơi Đức Giê-hô-va làm chi?
