2 Kings

1In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah king of Judah Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.

2And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

3¶ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael, all their days.

4And Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.

5(And the LORD gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.

6Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who made Israel sin, but walked therein: and there remained the grove also in Samaria.)

7Neither did he leave of the people to Jehoahaz but fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them, and had made them like the dust by threshing.

8¶ Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

9And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.

10¶ In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.

11And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin: but he walked therein.

12And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

13And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

14¶ Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.

15And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.

16And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.

17And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD’s deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.

18And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.

19And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

20¶ And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

21And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

22¶ But Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

23And the LORD was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.

24So Hazael king of Syria died; and Ben-hadad his son reigned in his stead.

25And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.

1Năm thứ hai mươi ba triều vua Giô-át, con vua A-khát-gia-hu, vua Giu-đa, ông Giơ-hô-a-khát, con vua Giê-hu, lên làm vua ở Sa-ma-ri, trị vì Ít-ra-en được mười bảy năm.

2Vua đã làm điều dữ trái mắt ĐỨC CHÚA, đã bắt chước vua Gia-róp-am, con ông Nơ-vát, phạm các tội vua ấy đã phạm, đã lôi kéo Ít-ra-en phạm theo ; và vua không dứt ra được.

3ĐỨC CHÚA đã nổi cơn thịnh nộ với Ít-ra-en. Người nộp họ vào tay vua Kha-da-ên, vua A-ram, và vua Ben Ha-đát, con vua Kha-da-ên, trong suốt triều đại hai vua này.

4Vua Giơ-hô-a-khát cố làm cho nét mặt ĐỨC CHÚA dịu lại. Và ĐỨC CHÚA nhậm lời vua, vì Người đã thấy cảnh Ít-ra-en bị vua A-ram áp bức.

5ĐỨC CHÚA ban cho Ít-ra-en một vị cứu tinh giải thoát họ khỏi ách đô hộ của A-ram. Con cái Ít-ra-en lại được ở trong lều trại của họ như trước.

6Nhưng họ không dứt bỏ các tội nhà Gia-róp-am đã lôi kéo họ phạm theo. Họ cứ đi theo đường tội lỗi đó. Ngay cả cột thờ vẫn còn đứng sừng sững ở Sa-ma-ri.

7ĐỨC CHÚA chỉ để lại cho vua Giơ-hô-a-khát năm mươi kỵ binh, mười xe trận, và mười ngàn bộ binh, bởi vì vua A-ram đã tiêu diệt quân Ít-ra-en và nghiền nát họ ra như tro bụi người ta chà đạp.

8Những truyện còn lại của vua Giơ-hô-a-khát và mọi việc vua làm, cũng như các chiến công của vua, đã chẳng được ghi chép trong sách Sử biên niên các vua Ít-ra-en đó sao ?

9Vua Giơ-hô-a-khát đã nằm xuống với tổ tiên và được chôn cất ở Sa-ma-ri. Con vua là Giô-át lên ngôi kế vị vua cha.

10Năm thứ ba mươi bảy triều vua Giô-át, vua Giu-đa, con vua Giơ-hô-a-khát là Giô-át lên làm vua ở Sa-ma-ri, trị vì Ít-ra-en được mười sáu năm.

11Vua đã làm điều dữ trái mắt ĐỨC CHÚA. Vua không dứt bỏ các tội mà vua Gia-róp-am, con ông Nơ-vát, đã phạm và lôi kéo Ít-ra-en phạm theo. Vua cứ đi theo đường tội lỗi đó.

12Các truyện còn lại của vua Giô-át và tất cả mọi việc vua làm, cũng như chiến công của vua trong cuộc giao chiến với vua Giu-đa là A-mát-gia, đã chẳng được ghi chép trong sách Sử biên niên các vua Ít-ra-en đó sao ?

13Vua Giô-át đã an nghỉ với tổ tiên, và vua Gia-róp-am lên ngôi. Vua Giô-át được chôn cất ở Sa-ma-ri bên cạnh các vua Ít-ra-en.

14Ông Ê-li-sa lâm bệnh. Cơn bệnh sẽ làm cho ông chết. Vua Ít-ra-en là Giô-át xuống gặp ông, áp sát mặt vào mặt ông mà khóc. Vua nói : “Cha ơi ! Cha ơi ! Hỡi chiến xa và chiến mã của Ít-ra-en !”

15Ông Ê-li-sa bảo : “Vua hãy cầm lấy cung tên !” Vua liền cầm lấy cung tên.

16Ông Ê-li-sa nói với vua Ít-ra-en : “Vua hãy giương cung lên !” Vua liền giương cung lên. Ông Ê-li-sa đặt tay mình lên tay vua

17và nói : “Vua hãy mở cửa sổ hướng đông”, và vua mở cửa sổ. Ông Ê-li-sa bảo : “Vua hãy bắn đi !” và vua bắn. Ông Ê-li-sa lại bảo : “Mũi tên chiến thắng của ĐỨC CHÚA ! Mũi tên chiến thắng A-ram ! Vua sẽ đánh A-ram ở A-phếch cho tới mức tận diệt chúng.”

18Ông Ê-li-sa nói : “Vua hãy cầm lấy tên”, Và vua đã cầm lấy tên. Ông Ê-li-sa lại bảo vua Ít-ra-en : “Vua hãy đánh xuống đất !”, và vua đã đánh xuống ba lần, rồi ngưng.

19Người của Thiên Chúa nổi giận với vua, ông nói : “Đáng lẽ phải đánh năm sáu lần, thì bấy giờ vua mới đánh A-ram cho tới mức tận diệt chúng. Nhưng này, vua sẽ chỉ đánh được A-ram ba lần thôi.”

20Ông Ê-li-sa qua đời và người ta đã chôn cất ông. Hàng năm, các toán quân Mô-áp xâm nhập xứ sở.

21Vậy, có lần người ta đang đem một người chết đi chôn, thì thấy một toán quân của bọn đó, họ liền vất người chết vào mộ ông Ê-li-sa, rồi bỏ đi. Người chết vừa đụng phải hài cốt của ông Ê-li-sa thì sống lại và đứng thẳng dậy.

22Suốt triều vua Giơ-hô-a-khát, vua A-ram là Kha-da-ên đã áp bức người Ít-ra-en.

23Nhưng ĐỨC CHÚA tỏ lòng nhân từ và chạnh lòng thương đoái nhìn họ, vì Người đã lập giao ước với các tổ phụ Áp-ra-ham, I-xa-ác và Gia-cóp. Người không muốn diệt trừ họ, và cho đến nay vẫn không xua đuổi họ cho khuất nhan Người.

24Vua A-ram là Kha-da-ên qua đời, và con vua là Ben Ha-đát lên ngôi kế vị vua cha.

25Vua Giô-át, con vua Giơ-hô-a-khát, lấy lại được những thành mà vua Kha-da-ên, trong một cuộc chiến, đã chiếm được của vua Giơ-hô-a-khát, cha vua Giô-át. Những thành này khi đó nằm trong tay vua Ben Ha-đát, con vua Kha-da-ên. Vua Giô-át đã đánh bại vua Ben Ha-đát ba lần và thu hồi được các thành của Ít-ra-en.
