2 Chronicles

1Then the people of the land took Joachaz the son of Josias, and made him king instead of his father in Jerusalem.

2Joachaz was three and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.

3And the king of Egypt came to Jerusalem, and deposed him, and condemned the land in a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

4And he made Eliakim his brother king in his stead, over Juda and Jerusalem: and he turned his name to Joakim: but he took Joachaz with him, and carried him away into Egypt.

5Joakim was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and he did evil before the Lord his God.

6Against him came up Nabuchodonosor king of the Chaldeans, and led him bound in chains into Babylon.

7And he carried also thither the vessels of the Lord, and put them in his temple.

8But the rest of the acts of Joakim, and his abominations, which he wrought, and the things that were found in him, are contained in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel. And Joachin his son reigned in his stead.

9Joachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord.

10And at the return of the year, king Nabuchodonosor sent, and brought him to Babylon, carrying away at the same time the most precious vessels of the house of the Lord: and he made Sedecias his uncle king over Juda and Jerusalem.

11Sedecias was one and twenty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.

12And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God, and did not reverence the face of Jeremias the prophet speaking to him from the mouth of the Lord.

13He also revolted from king Nabuchodonosor, who had made him swear by God: and he hardened his neck and his heart, from returning to the Lord the God of Israel.

14Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people wickedly transgressed according to all the abominations of the Gentiles: and they defiled the house of the Lord, which he had sanctified to himself in Jerusalem.

15And the Lord the God of their fathers sent to them, by the hand of his messengers, rising early, and daily admonishing them: because he spared his people and his dwelling place.

16But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy.

17For he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, and he slew their young men with the sword in the house of his sanctuary, he had no compassion on young man, or maiden, old man or even him that stooped for age, but he delivered them all into his hands.

18And all the vessels of the house of the Lord, great and small, and the treasures of the temple and of the king, and of the princes he carried away to Babylon.

19And the enemies set fire to the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, burnt all the towers, and whatsoever was precious they destroyed.

20Whosoever escaped the sword, was led into Babylon, and there served the king and his sons till the reign of the king of Persia.

21That the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremias might be fulfilled, and the land might keep her sabbaths: for all the days of the desolation she kept a sabbath, till the seventy years were expired.

22But in the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, to fulfill the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the mouth of Jeremias, the Lord stirred up the heart of Cyrus king of the Persians who commanded it to be proclaimed through all his kingdom, and by writing also, saying:

23Thus saith Cyrus king of the Persians: All the kingdoms of the earth hath the Lord the God of heaven given to me, and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judea: who is there among you of all his people? The Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.

1Dân sự của xứ bèn lập Giô-a-cha, con trai Giô-si-a, làm vua thay vì cha người tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

2Giô-a-cha được hai mươi ba tuổi khi lên ngôi làm vua, và cai trị ba tháng tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

3Vua Ê-díp-tô truất ngôi người tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, và bắt vạ xứ một trăm ta lâng bạc và một ta lâng vàng.

4Đoạn, vua Ê-díp-tô lập Ê-li-a-kim, em Giô-a-cha, làm vua của Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem, và đổi tên người ra là Giê-hô-gia-kim. Nê-cô bắt Giô-a-cha, anh của Giê-hô-gia-kim, đem người về xứ Ê-díp-tô.

5Giê-hô-gia-kim được hai mươi lăm tuổi khi người lên ngôi làm vua; người cai trị mười một năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, và làm điều ác trước mặt Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của người.

6Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn, đi lên hãm đánh người, xiềng người lại, và dẫn người qua Ba-by-lôn.

7Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa cũng đoạt lấy đem về Ba-by-lôn những khí dụng của đền Đức Giê-hô-va, rồi để vào trong miễu người tại Ba-by-lôn.

8Các công việc khác của Giê-hô-gia-kim những sự gớm ghiếc người đã làm, và sự đã tìm được trong lòng người, thảy đều chép trong sách các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa. Giê-hô-gia-kin, con trai người, cai trị thế cho người.

9Giê-hô-gia-kin được mười tám tuổi khi người lên ngôi làm vua, và cai trị ba tháng mười ngày tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Người làm điều ác tại trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va.

10Sang đầu năm, vua Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa sai bắt người dẫn về Ba-by-lôn, cùng đoạt lấy đem về các vật tốt đẹp của đền Đức Giê-hô-va, rồi lập Sê-đê-kia, em người, làm vua Giu-đa và Giê-ru-sa-lem.

11Sê-đê-kia được hai mươi mốt tuổi, khi người lên ngôi làm vua, và cai trị mười một năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

12Người làm điều ác trước mặt Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của người, không hạ mình xuống trước mặt Giê-rê-mi, là đấng tiên tri vâng mạng Đức Giê-hô-va mà khuyên bảo người.

13Người cũng dấy lên nghịch cùng vua Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, là vua đã buộc người chỉ Đức Chúa Trời mà thề; song người lại cứng cổ rắn lòng, không khứng trở về cùng Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

14Những thầy tế lễ cả và dân sự đều theo những sự gớm ghiếc của các dân ngoại bang mà phạm tội lỗi nhiều quá đỗi; làm cho ô uế đền của Đức Giê-hô-va mà Ngài đã biệt riêng ra thánh tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

15Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ chúng, vì có lòng thương xót dân sự và đền của Ngài; nên hằng sai sứ giả đến cùng chúng;

16nhưng chúng nhạo báng sứ giả của Đức Chúa Trời, khinh bỉ các lời phán Ngài, cười nhạo những tiên tri của Ngài, cho đến đỗi cơn thạnh nộ của Đức Giê-hô-va nổi lên cùng dân sự Ngài, chẳng còn phương chữa được.

17Vì vậy, Đức Chúa Trời khiến vua dân Canh-đê lên hãm đánh chúng, người dùng gươm giết những trai trẻ của chúng tại đền thánh họ; người chẳng thương xót đến, hoặc trai trẻ, nữ đồng trinh, già cả, hay là kẻ đầu bạc: Ngài phó hết thảy vào tay của vua Canh-đê.

18Các khí dụng nhỏ và lớn của đền Đức Chúa Trời, các bửu vật của đền Đức Giê-hô-va, các bửu vật của vua và của các quan trưởng vua, cả thảy đều bị đem qua Ba-by-lôn.

19Chúng đốt đền Đức Chúa Trời, đánh đổ vách thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, lấy lửa đốt các cung điện, và phá hủy các khí dụng tốt đẹp của nó.

20Phàm ai thoát khỏi gươm, thì người bắt đem qua Ba-by-lôn; chúng làm tôi mọi cho người và cho con trai người cho đến đời nước Phe-rơ-sơ hưng khởi;

21để cho ứng nghiệm lời của Đức Giê-hô-va đã cậy miệng Giê-rê-mi mà phán ra, tức cho đến khi xứ được hưởng các năm sa-bát của nó; vì trọn lúc xứ bị bỏ hoang, thì dường như giữ sa-bát, cho đến khi mãn hạn bảy mươi năm.

22Năm thứ nhất đời Si-ru, vua Phe-rơ-sơ trị vì, Đức Giê-hô-va muốn làm cho ứng nghiệm lời Ngài đã cậy miệng Giê-rê-mi mà phán ra, bèn cảm động lòng Si-ru, vua Phe-rơ-sơ, rao truyền trong khắp nước mình, và cũng ra chiếu chỉ, mà rằng:

23Si-ru, vua Phe-rơ-sơ, nói như vầy: Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời đã ban cho ta các nước thế gian, và biểu ta xây cất cho Ngài một cái đền ở tại Giê-ru-sa-lem trong xứ Giu-đa. Trong các ngươi, phàm ai thuộc về dân sự Ngài, hãy trở lên Giê-ru-sa-lem; nguyện Giê-hô-va Đức Chúa Trời của người ấy ở cùng người!
