Soprascritta e saluti

1GIACOMO, servitor di Dio, e del Signor Gesù Cristo, alle dodici tribù, che son nella dispersione; salute.

Delle prove e delle tentazioni

2REPUTATE compiuta allegrezza, fratelli miei, quando sarete caduti in diverse tentazioni;

3sapendo che la prova della vostra fede produce pazienza.

4Or abbia la pazienza un'opera compiuta; acciocchè voi siate compiuti ed intieri, non mancando di nulla.

5Che se alcun di voi manca di sapienza, chieggala a Dio, che dona a tutti liberalmente, e non fa onta, e gli sarà donata.

6Ma chieggala in fede, senza star punto in dubbio; perciocchè chi sta in dubbio è simile al fiotto del mare, agitato dal vento e dimenato.

7Imperocchè, non pensi già quel tal uomo di ricever nulla dal Signore;

8essendo uomo doppio di cuore, instabile in tutte le sue vie.

9Or il fratello che è in basso stato si glorii della sua altezza.

10E il ricco, della sua bassezza; perciocchè egli trapasserà come fior d'erba.

11Imperocchè, come quando è levato il sole con l'arsura, egli ha tosto seccata l'erba, e il suo fiore è caduto, e la bellezza della sua apparenza è perita, così ancora si appasserà il ricco nelle sue vie.

12Beato l'uomo che sopporta la tentazione; perciocchè, essendosi reso approvato, egli riceverà la corona della vita, la quale il Signore ha promessa a coloro che l'amano.

13Niuno, essendo tentato, dica: Io son tentato da Dio; poichè Iddio non può esser tantato di mali, e altresì non tenta alcuno.

14Ma ciascuno è tentato, essendo attratto e adescato dalla propria concupiscenza.

15Poi appresso, la concupiscenza, avendo conceputo, partorisce il peccato; e il peccato, essendo compiuto, genera la morte.

16Non errate, fratelli miei diletti:

17ogni buona donazione, ed ogni dono perfetto, è da alto, discendendo dal padre dei lumi, nel quale non vi è mutamento, nè ombra di cambiamento.

18Egli ci ha di sua volontà generati per la parola della verità, acciocchè siamo in certo modo le primizie delle sue creature.

Del mettere in pratica la parola di Dio

19PERCIÒ, fratelli miei diletti, sia ogni uomo pronto all'udire, tardo al parlare, lento all'ira.

20Perciocchè l'ira dell'uomo non mette in opera la giustizia di Dio.

21Perciò, deposta ogni lordura, e feccia di malizia, ricevete con mansuetudine la parola innestata in voi, la quale può salvar le anime vostre.

22E siate facitori della parola, e non solo uditori; ingannando voi stessi.

23Perciocchè, se alcuno è uditor della parola, e non facitore, egli è simile ad un uomo che considera la sua natia faccia in uno specchio.

24Imperocchè, dopo ch'egli si è mirato, egli se ne va, e subito ha dimenticato quale egli fosse.

25Ma chi avrà riguardato bene addentro nella legge perfetta, che è la legge della libertà, e sarà perseverato; esso, non essendo uditore dimentichevole, ma facitor dell'opera, sarà beato nel suo operare.

26Se alcuno pare esser religioso fra voi, e non tiene a freno la sua lingua, ma seduce il cuor suo, la religion di quel tale è vana.

27La religione pura ed immacolata, dinanzi a Dio e Padre, è questa; visitar gli orfani, e le vedove, nelle loro afflizioni; e conservarsi puro dal mondo.

2Count it all joy, my brothers,when you fall into various temptations,

3knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

4Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

5But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

6But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.

7For that man shouldn’t think that he will receive anything from the Lord.

8He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

9Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;

10and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.

11For the sun arises with the scorching wind and withers the grass; and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So the rich man will also fade away in his pursuits.

12Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to those who love him.

13Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

14But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.

15Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.

16Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers.

17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow.

18Of his own will he gave birth to us by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

19So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

20for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

21Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

22But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.

23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;

24for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

25But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

26If anyone amongst you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

27Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
