Isaiah

1And Jehovah said unto me, Take thee a great tablet, and write upon it with the pen of a man, For Maher-shalal-hash-baz;

2and I will take unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

3And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said Jehovah unto me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

4For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and, My mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.

5And Jehovah spake unto me yet again, saying,

6Forasmuch as this people have refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;

7now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the River, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory: and it shall come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks;

8and it shall sweep onward into Judah; it shall overflow and pass through; it shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of its wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

9Make an uproar, O ye peoples, and be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces.

10Take counsel together, and it shall be brought to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

11For Jehovah spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

12Say ye not, A conspiracy, concerning all whereof this people shall say, A conspiracy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be in dread thereof.

13Jehovah of hosts, him shall ye sanctify; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

14And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15And many shall stumble thereon, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

16Bind thou up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

17And I will wait for Jehovah, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

18Behold, I and the children whom Jehovah hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Jehovah of hosts, who dwelleth in mount Zion.

19And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits and unto the wizards, that chirp and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? on behalf of the living should they seek unto the dead?

20To the law and to the testimony! if they speak not according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.

21And they shall pass through it, sore distressed and hungry; and it shall come to pass that, when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse by their king and by their God, and turn their faces upward:

22and they shall look unto the earth, and, behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and into thick darkness they shall be driven away.

1Đức Giê-hô-va phán cùng tôi rằng: Hãy lấy một cái bảng rộng và viết lên trên bằng bút loài người rằng: Ma-he-Sa-la-Hát-Bát.

2Tôi đem theo những kẻ làm chứng đáng tin, tức là U-ri, thầy tế lễ, và Xa-cha-ri, con trai của Giê-bê-rê-kia.

3Đoạn, tôi đến nhà nữ tiên tri; người chịu thai và sanh một con trai. Đức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng tôi rằng: Hãy đặt tên nó là Ma-he-Sa-la-Hát-Bát

4Vì, trước khi con trẻ biết kêu: Cha ơi! mẹ ơi! thì người ta sẽ cất lấy sự giàu có Đa-mách và của cướp Sa-ma-ri trước mặt vua A-si-ri.

5Đức Giê-hô-va lại phán cùng tôi rằng:

6Vì dân nầy đã khinh bỏ các dòng nước Si-lô-ê chảy dịu, và ưa thích Rê-xin cùng con trai của Rê-ma-lia.

7Vì cớ đó, nầy, Chúa sẽ khiến nước Sông mạnh và nhiều đến trên họ, tức là vua A-si-ri và cả oai vinh người; nó sẽ dấy lên khắp trên lòng sông, khỏa lên các bực;

8chảy vào Giu-đa, tràn lan chảy xói, ngập cho đến cổ; hỡi Em-ma-nu-ên, nó sè cánh ra che cả xứ ngươi.

9Hỡi các dân, hãy kêu la và bị tan nát! Hỡi các ngươi hết thảy, là dân các phương xa, hãy lắng tai! Hãy nịt lưng các ngươi, và bị tan nát; hãy nịt lưng các ngươi, và bị tan nát!

10Hãy toan mưu cùng nhau, nó sẽ nên hư không; hãy nói, lời các ngươi sẽ không đứng, vì Đức Chúa Trời ở cùng chúng ta.

11Vì Đức Giê-hô-va dùng tay mạnh phán cùng ta, và dạy ta đừng noi theo đường dân ấy,

12rằng: Khi dân nầy nói rằng: Kết đảng! thì các ngươi chớ nói rằng: Kết đảng! Chớ sợ điều nó sợ, và đừng kinh hãi.

13Hãy tôn Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân là thánh; các ngươi chỉ nên sợ Ngài và kinh hãi Ngài.

14Ngài sẽ là nơi thánh, nhưng cũng là hòn đá vấp ngã, vầng đó vướng mắc cho cả hai nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên, và là bẫy cùng lưới cho dân cư thành Giê-ru-sa-lem vậy.

15Nhiều người trong bọn họ sẽ vấp chân; sẽ té và giập nát; sẽ sa vào lưới và bị bắt.

16Ngươi hãy gói lời chứng nầy, niêm phong luật pháp nầy trong môn đồ ta!

17Tôi trông đợi Đức Giê-hô-va, là Đấng ẩn mặt Ngài khỏi nhà Gia-cốp, tôi vẫn ngóng trông Ngài!

18Nầy, tôi đây, với con cái mà Đức Giê-hô-va đã ban cho tôi, là dấu và điềm trong Y-sơ-ra-ên, bởi Đức Giê-hô-va vạn quân ngự trên núi Si-ôn.

19Nếu có ai bảo các ngươi: Hãy cầu hỏi đồng bóng và thầy bói, là kẻ nói ríu rít líu lo, thì hãy đáp rằng: Một dân tộc há chẳng nên cầu hỏi Đức Chúa Trời mình sao? Há lại vì người sống mà hỏi kẻ chết sao?

20Hãy theo luật pháp và lời chứng! Nếu dân chẳng nói như vậy, chắc sẽ chẳng có rạng đông cho nó.

21Nó sẽ đi lưu lạc trên đất, khốn khổ đói khát; trong cơn đói, nó bực mình, nguyền rủa vua và Đức Chúa Trời mình. Nó sẽ ngước xem trên cao;

22rồi cúi xem dưới đất, chỉ thấy sự hoạn nạn và mờ mịt, chỉ thấy bóng buồn rầu: nó sẽ bị đuổi vào nơi tối tăm mờ mịt.
