1And it came to pass in Iconium, that they did enter together into the synagogue of the Jews, and spake, so that there believed both of Jews and Greeks a great multitude;

2and the unbelieving Jews did stir up and made evil the souls of the nations against the brethren;

3long time, indeed, therefore, did they abide speaking boldly in the Lord, who is testifying to the word of His grace, and granting signs and wonders to come to pass through their hands.

4And the multitude of the city was divided, and some were with the Jews, and some with the apostles,

5and when there was a purpose both of the nations and of the Jews with their rulers to use [them] despitefully, and to stone them,

6they having become aware, did flee to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and to the region round about,

7and there they were proclaiming good news.

8And a certain man in Lystra, impotent in the feet, was sitting, being lame from the womb of his mother — who never had walked,

9this one was hearing Paul speaking, who, having stedfastly beheld him, and having seen that he hath faith to be saved,

10said with a loud voice, 'Stand up on thy feet upright;' and he was springing and walking,

11and the multitudes having seen what Paul did, did lift up their voice, in the speech of Lycaonia, saying, 'The gods, having become like men, did come down unto us;'

12they were calling also Barnabas Zeus, and Paul Hermes, since he was the leader in speaking.

13And the priest of the Zeus that is before their city, oxen and garlands unto the porches having brought, with the multitudes did wish to sacrifice,

14and having heard, the apostles Barnabas and Paul, having rent their garments, did spring into the multitude, crying

15and saying, 'Men, why these things do ye? and we are men like-affected with you, proclaiming good news to you, from these vanities to turn unto the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all the things in them;

16who in the past generations did suffer all the nations to go on in their ways,

17though, indeed, without witness He did not leave himself, doing good — from heaven giving rains to us, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness;'

18and these things saying, scarcely did they restrain the multitudes from sacrificing to them.

19And there came thither, from Antioch and Iconium, Jews, and they having persuaded the multitudes, and having stoned Paul, drew him outside of the city, having supposed him to be dead;

20and the disciples having surrounded him, having risen he entered into the city, and on the morrow he went forth with Barnabas to Derbe.

21Having proclaimed good news also to that city, and having discipled many, they turned back to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch,

22confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting to remain in the faith, and that through many tribulations it behoveth us to enter into the reign of God,

23and having appointed to them by vote elders in every assembly, having prayed with fastings, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

24And having passed through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia,

25and having spoken in Perga the word, they went down to Attalia,

26and thence did sail to Antioch, whence they had been given by the grace of God for the work that they fulfilled;

27and having come and gathered together the assembly, they declared as many things as God did with them, and that He did open to the nations a door of faith;

28and they abode there not a little time with the disciples.

Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba tại Thành Y-cô-ni

1Việc xảy ra cũng như vậy tại Y-cô-ni, Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba lại vào hội đường Do Thái giảng dạy đến nỗi rất nhiều người Do Thái và Hy Lạp tin Chúa.

2Nhưng người Do Thái vô tín xúi dân ngoại ác cảm với Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba.

3Tuy vậy, hai ông ở lại đó lâu ngày, bạo dạn công bố Phúc Âm. Chúa dùng hai ông làm nhiều phép lạ và việc diệu kỳ để minh chứng Phúc Âm.

4Dân chúng trong thành phố chia làm hai phe, một phe theo người Do Thái, phe kia ủng hộ các sứ đồ.

5Một số dân ngoại hiệp với người Do Thái và các cấp lãnh đạo âm mưu tấn công và ném đá sát hại các sứ đồ;

6nhưng các sứ đồ biết được, liền lánh qua các thành Lít-trơ, Đẹt-bơ thuộc xứ Ly-cao-ni và miền phụ cận

7để tiếp tục công bố Phúc Âm.

Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba tại Lít-trơ và Đẹt-bơ

8Tại Lít-trơ có một người liệt chân từ lúc sơ sinh, không hề bước đi được.

9Anh này ngồi nghe Phao-lô giảng. Phao-lô lưu ý, nhận thấy anh có đức tin, có thể chữa lành được,

10liền nói lớn: “Anh hãy đứng thẳng lên!” Anh liệt chân nhảy lên rồi bước đi.

11Thấy việc lạ, dân chúng reo hò bằng tiếng Ly-cao-ni: “Thần linh đã lấy hình người, xuống thăm chúng ta!”

12Họ gọi Ba-na-ba là thần Dớt và Phao-lô là Héc-mê, vì ông là diễn giả.

13Trưởng tế đền thờ thần Dớt ở trước cổng thành đem bò đực và tràng hoa đến trước cổng, định cùng dân chúng dâng sinh tế.

14Nhưng sứ đồ Ba-na-ba và Phao-lô biết ý họ, liền xé áo, chạy vào giữa đám đông la lên:

15“Các ông làm gì thế? Chúng tôi cũng là người như các ông! Chúng tôi đến đây truyền giảng Phúc Âm để các ông bỏ việc thờ phượng vô ích này mà trở về với Đức Chúa Trời Hằng Sống. Ngài đã sáng tạo trời, đất, biển và vạn vật trong đó.

16Trước kia Ngài đã để các dân tộc đi theo đường lối riêng.

17Nhưng Ngài vẫn luôn luôn chứng tỏ sự hiện hữu của Ngài bằng những phước lành như mưa móc từ trời, mùa màng dư dật, thực phẩm dồi dào, tâm hồn vui thỏa.”

18Dù đã nói hết lời, các sứ đồ phải vất vả lắm mới ngăn được dân chúng, không cho họ dâng sinh tế cho mình.

19Lúc ấy có mấy người Do Thái từ An-ti-ốt và Y-cô-ni đến, sách động quần chúng ném đá Phao-lô. Tưởng ông đã chết họ kéo ông bỏ ra ngoài thành.

20Nhưng khi các tín hữu tụ họp chung quanh, Phao-lô đứng dậy đi vào thành. Hôm sau, Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba đi Đẹt-bơ.

Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba Quay về An-ti-ốt, Xứ Sy-ri

21Sau khi giảng Phúc Âm và giúp nhiều người tin Chúa, hai ông trở lại Lít-trơ, Y-cô-ni, và An-ti-ốt,

22củng cố tinh thần các tín hữu, khuyên họ cứ giữ vững đức tin, và dặn họ rằng phải trải qua nhiều gian khổ mới vào được Nước Trời.

23Phao-lô và Ba-na-ba tuyển chọn một số trưởng lão ở mỗi Hội Thánh, rồi kiêng ăn, cầu nguyện, và ủy thác họ cho Chúa, là Đấng họ đã tin.

24Hai ông đi qua miền Bi-si-đi, đến Bam-phi-ly,

25giảng đạo tại Bẹt-ga rồi xuống hải cảng A-tha-ly.

26Cuối cùng, họ đi thuyền về An-ti-ốt, nơi họ đã được Hội Thánh ủy thác cho ơn phước Chúa và giao phó nhiệm vụ vừa chu toàn.

27Đến An-ti-ốt, hai ông triệu tập Hội Thánh, tường thuật mọi việc Đức Chúa Trời cùng làm với mình, và cách Chúa mở cửa cứu rỗi cho các dân ngoại.

28Hai ông ở lại An-ti-ốt lâu ngày với các tín hữu.
