Joshua

1These are the inheritances which the children of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed to them,

2by the lot of their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half-tribe.

3For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan; but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.

4For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. They gave no portion to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, with their pasture lands for their livestock and for their property.

5The children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses, and they divided the land.

6Then the children of Judah came near to Joshua in Gilgal. Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know the thing that the LORD spoke to Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh Barnea.

7I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land. I brought him word again as it was in my heart.

8Nevertheless, my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed the LORD my God.

9Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where you walked shall be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.’

10“Now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as he spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. Now, behold, I am eighty-five years old, today.

11As yet I am as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me. As my strength was then, even so is my strength now for war, to go out and to come in.

12Now therefore give me this hill country, of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and great and fortified cities. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as the LORD said.”

13Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

14Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel wholeheartedly.

15Now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba, after the greatest man among the Anakim. Then the land had rest from war.

1Đây là phần gia nghiệp con cái Ít-ra-en đã lãnh nhận ở xứ Ca-na-an, phần gia nghiệp mà tư tế E-la-da, ông Giô-suê con ông Nun, và những người đứng đầu gia tộc của các chi tộc con cái Ít-ra-en, đã chia cho họ.

2Chín chi tộc và một nửa chi tộc đã bắt thăm và lãnh được gia nghiệp, theo mệnh lệnh của ĐỨC CHÚA, qua trung gian của ông Mô-sê.

3Thật vậy, ông Mô-sê đã ban gia nghiệp cho hai chi tộc và một nửa chi tộc ở bên kia sông Gio-đan ; nhưng ông đã không ban cho các người Lê-vi phần gia nghiệp giữa các chi tộc.

4Đó là vì con cái ông Giu-se chia làm hai chi tộc : Mơ-na-se và Ép-ra-im ; còn các người Lê-vi thì không nhận được vùng đất trong xứ, ngoại trừ các thành để ở, cùng với đồng cỏ cho súc vật và của cải thuộc về họ.

5ĐỨC CHÚA đã truyền cho ông Mô-sê thế nào, thì con cái Ít-ra-en làm như vậy : họ đã phân chia đất đai.

6Con cái ông Giu-đa đến gần ông Giô-suê ở Ghin-gan. Ông Ca-lếp, con ông Giơ-phun-ne, người Cơ-nát, nói với ông : “Ông biết lời ĐỨC CHÚA đã phán với ông Mô-sê, người của Thiên Chúa, về tôi và về ông ở Ca-đê Bác-nê-a.

7Tôi được bốn mươi tuổi khi ông Mô-sê, tôi trung của ĐỨC CHÚA, từ Ca-đê Bác-nê-a, sai tôi đi do thám xứ này, và tôi đã thật lòng báo cáo cho ông ấy.

8Những người anh em cùng lên với tôi đã làm cho tâm thần của dân sợ hãi như muốn chảy tan ra. Nhưng tôi đã trọn tình trọn nghĩa với ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của tôi.

9Ngày ấy, ông Mô-sê đã thề rằng : ‘Đất mà chân anh dẫm lên chắc chắn sẽ trở thành gia nghiệp của anh, của con cái anh cho đến muôn đời, vì anh đã trọn tình trọn nghĩa với ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của tôi.’

10Và bây giờ, này ĐỨC CHÚA đã để tôi sống như lời Người đã phán cách đây bốn mươi lăm năm, kể từ khi ĐỨC CHÚA nói lời đó với ông Mô-sê, thuở Ít-ra-en còn đi trong sa mạc. Bây giờ, hôm nay đây tôi đã được tám mươi lăm tuổi.

11Ngày hôm nay, tôi vẫn còn khoẻ như ngày ông Mô-sê sai tôi đi. Sức lực tôi xưa thế nào, bây giờ cũng vậy, để chiến đấu hay đi lại hoạt động.

12Vậy giờ đây, xin cho tôi núi này, núi ĐỨC CHÚA đã nói đến trong ngày ấy, vì ông đã nghe nói trong ngày ấy, là ở đấy có người A-nác và những thành trì kiên cố lớn lao. Nếu ĐỨC CHÚA ở với tôi, tôi sẽ xua đuổi chúng, như ĐỨC CHÚA đã phán.”

13Ông Giô-suê chúc phúc cho ông Ca-lếp, con ông Giơ-phun-ne, và tặng Khép-rôn cho ông làm gia nghiệp cho đến ngày nay.

14Vì thế, Khép-rôn đã thành gia nghiệp của ông Ca-lếp, con ông Giơ-phun-ne, người Cơ-nát, vì ông đã trọn tình trọn nghĩa với ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của Ít-ra-en.

15Và xứ sở được sống yên hàn, hết nạn chiến tranh.
