1Now Solomon decided to build a house for the LORD’s name, and a house for his kingdom.

2Solomon counted out seventy thousand men to bear burdens, eighty thousand men who were stone cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them.

3Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, “As you dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build him a house in which to dwell, so deal with me.

4Behold,I am about to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, to burn before him incense of sweet spices, for the continual show bread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel.

5“The house which I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.

6But who is able to build him a house, since heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain him? Who am I then, that I should build him a house, except just to burn incense before him?

7“Now therefore send me a man skillful to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in iron, and in purple, crimson, and blue, and who knows how to engrave engravings, to be with the skillful men who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.

8“Send me also cedar trees, cypress trees, and algum trees out of Lebanon, for I know that your servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. Behold, my servants will be with your servants,

9even to prepare me timber in abundance; for the house which I am about to build will be great and wonderful.

10Behold, I will give to your servants, the cutters who cut timber, twenty thousand corsof beaten wheat, twenty thousand bathsof barley, twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.”

11Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, “Because the LORD loves his people, he has made you king over them.”

12Huram continued, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endowed with discretion and understanding, who would build a house for the LORD and a house for his kingdom.

13Now I have sent a skillful man, endowed with understanding, Huram-abi,

14the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan; and his father was a man of Tyre. He is skillful to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in iron, in stone, in timber, in purple, in blue, in fine linen, and in crimson, also to engrave any kind of engraving and to devise any device, that there may be a place appointed to him with your skillful men, and with the skillful men of my lord David your father.

15“Now therefore, the wheat, the barley, the oil, and the wine which my lord has spoken of, let him send to his servants;

16and we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as you need. We will bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa; then you shall carry it up to Jerusalem.”

17Solomon counted all the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, after the census with which David his father had counted them; and they found one hundred fifty-three thousand six hundred.

18He set seventy thousand of them to bear burdens, eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to assign the people their work.

3Nay tôi cũng sắp xây nhà kính ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của tôi, ngôi nhà dành riêng cho Người, để đốt hương thơm trước nhan Người, để có bánh tiến luôn đặt trước mặt Người, để cứ sáng chiều dâng lễ toàn thiêu, và dâng trong các ngày sa-bát, các ngày sóc và các lễ kính ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa của chúng tôi, như đã quy định cho Ít-ra-en đến muôn đời.

4Và ngôi nhà tôi sắp xây phải thật nguy nga, vì Thiên Chúa của chúng tôi vĩ đại hơn chư thần hết thảy.

5Thế nhưng, ai nào xây nổi một ngôi nhà cho Chúa, vì cả chín tầng trời thăm thẳm cũng không chứa nổi Người ? Vậy tôi là ai mà dám xây nhà cho Chúa, dù chỉ là để đốt hương trước nhan Người ?

6Bây giờ xin ngài gửi cho tôi tay thợ nào thạo nghề vàng, bạc, đồng, sắt, vải điều, vải đỏ son, vải đỏ thẫm, và còn biết chạm trổ những hình nổi. Người đó sẽ làm việc với các thợ lành nghề tôi có sẵn tại Giê-ru-sa-lem và tại Giu-đa do vua Đa-vít thân phụ tôi để lại.

7Xin gửi cho tôi gỗ bá hương, gỗ trắc và gỗ đàn hương vùng Li-băng, vì tôi biết bề tôi của ngài quen đốn gỗ Li-băng. Tôi tớ của tôi sẽ cộng tác với bề tôi của ngài,

8để chuẩn bị cho tôi thật nhiều gỗ, vì ngôi nhà tôi sắp xây sẽ nguy nga kỳ diệu.

9Và đây, tôi sẽ cung cấp cho thợ đốn gỗ bốn trăm ngàn thùng lúa mì, bốn trăm ngàn thùng lúa mạch, bốn mươi ngàn thùng rượu nho, bốn mươi ngàn thùng dầu. Đó là lương thực cho bề tôi của ngài.”

10Khi-ram, vua thành Tia, viết và gửi đến vua Sa-lô-môn lá thư phúc đáp như sau : “Vì ĐỨC CHÚA thương dân Người, nên Người mới đặt ngài làm vua cai trị họ.”

11Và vua Khi-ram nói : “Chúc tụng ĐỨC CHÚA, Thiên Chúa Ít-ra-en, Đấng tạo thành trời đất, Đấng đã ban cho vua Đa-vít một người con khôn ngoan, sáng suốt, thành thạo và hiểu rộng biết nhiều để xây nhà kính ĐỨC CHÚA và xây cung điện cho mình.

12Vậy, bây giờ tôi sẽ gửi đến cho ngài một người khôn ngoan, hiểu rộng và sáng suốt là Khi-ram A-vi.

13Mẹ của anh ta là một người phụ nữ họ Đan, còn cha là người thành Tia. Anh ta biết làm các đồ vàng, bạc, đồng, sắt, đá, gỗ, vải điều, vải đỏ thẫm, trúc bâu, vải đỏ son. Anh còn biết chạm trổ mọi thứ hình nổi và sáng tạo bất cứ tác phẩm mỹ nghệ nào người ta đặt. 14Giờ đây, lúa mì, lúa mạch, dầu, rượu mà ngài đã hứa, thì xin cứ gửi cho các tôi tớ của ngài.

15Chúng tôi sẽ đốn gỗ Li-băng theo nhu cầu của ngài, và sẽ đóng bè đem đến Gia-phô cho ngài theo đường biển, rồi ngài sẽ liệu chuyên chở lên Giê-ru-sa-lem.”

16Vua Sa-lô-môn làm sổ thống kê các ngoại kiều cư ngụ trên đất Ít-ra-en, theo thống kê phụ vương Đa-vít đã làm, tất cả được một trăm năm mươi ba ngàn sáu trăm người.

17Trong số này, vua đặt bảy mươi ngàn làm phu khuân vác, tám mươi ngàn làm thợ đá trên núi và ba ngàn sáu trăm làm đốc công để điều động dân chúng làm việc.
