Phân Chia Phần Đất Vùng Phía Tây Sông Giô-đan

1Thầy Tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa, Giô-suê, con của Nun, và các trưởng tộc Ít-ra-ên phân chia đất Ca-na-an ra,

2và chín đại tộc rưỡi rút thăm lấy đất làm sản nghiệp như lời Chúa Hằng Hữu dặn Môi-se.

3Còn hai đại tộc rưỡi kia, Môi-se đã chia cho họ đất bên bờ phía đông Sông Giô-đan rồi.

4Riêng đại tộc Lê-vi không nhận được một phần đất riêng biệt như những đại tộc khác; họ chỉ được cấp các thành để ở và đất để nuôi súc vật. Đặc biệt có đại tộc Giô-sép được kể là hai đại tộc: Ma-na-se và Ép-ra-im.

5Vậy, việc chia đất được thực hiện đúng theo chỉ thị của Chúa Hằng Hữu truyền cho Môi-se.

Ca-lép Yêu Cầu Chia Đất cho Mình

6Một số người Giu-đa do Ca-lép, con của Giê-phu-nê, người Kên, hướng dẫn đến gặp Giô-suê tại Ghinh-ganh và trình bày như sau: “Ông còn nhớ Chúa Hằng Hữu dặn Môi-se, đầy tớ Chúa tại Ca-đê Ba-nê-a về trường hợp của ông và tôi chứ?

7Tại Ca-đê Ba-nê-a, Môi-se, đầy tớ Chúa sai chúng ta đi trinh sát đất hứa. Khi trở về, tôi phúc trình đúng sự thật.

8Trong khi các người khác nói những lời làm nhục chí anh em, tôi vẫn một lòng trung thành với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời tôi.

9Vì vậy, hôm ấy Môi-se có thề sẽ cho tôi và con cháu tôi nơi nào tôi đặt chân đến, vì tôi đã hết lòng theo Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của tôi.

10Từ đó đến nay đã ngót bốn mươi lăm năm. Từ ngày dân ta còn lang thang trong hoang mạc, Chúa cho tôi sống còn cho đến ngày nay, và bây giờ tôi đã tám mươi lăm tuổi.

11Tôi vẫn mạnh khỏe như ngày Môi-se sai tôi đi, khả năng chiến đấu và di chuyển của tôi vẫn như ngày nào.

12Vậy, theo lời Chúa ngày ấy, xin ông cho tôi vùng đồi núi này. Mặc dù ngày ấy ông cũng đã nghe rằng đây là đất của người khổng lồ A-na-kim với nhiều thành trì vững chắc. Nhưng nếu Chúa Hằng Hữu ở cùng tôi, tôi sẽ đuổi họ đi.”

13Giô-suê chúc phước lành cho Ca-lép con trai Giê-phu-nê và chia cho ông đất Hếp-rôn.

14Vậy Hếp-rôn trở thành tài sản của nhà Ca-lép (con Giê-phu-nê, người dòng Kên) cho đến ngày nay, vì ông đã hết lòng theo Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên.

15(Xưa kia Hếp-rôn được gọi là thành Ki-ri-át A-ra-ba, theo tên của một anh hùng người A-na-kim). Và từ đó, chiến tranh chấm dứt.

1And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.

2By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.

3For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.

4For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.

5As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.

6¶ Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea.

7Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.

8Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.

9And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.

10And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

11As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.

12Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

13And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

14Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

15And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
