Phi-e-rơ và Giăng Trước Hội Đồng Quốc Gia

1Trong khi Phi-e-rơ và Giăng đang nói chuyện với dân chúng, thình lình các thầy tế lễ, viên chỉ huy đội tuần cảnh Đền Thờ, và các thầy Sa-đu-sê xông vào bắt hai ông.

2Họ bực tức vì Phi-e-rơ và Giăng dạy dỗ dân chúng và truyền giảng về sự sống lại của Chúa Giê-xu.

3Lúc ấy trời đã tối, nên họ bắt hai ông giam vào ngục cho đến sáng hôm sau.

4Tuy nhiên, nhiều người đã tin Chúa khi nghe lời truyền giảng, nên số người tin tăng lên khoảng 5.000 người, không kể phụ nữ và trẻ em.

5Qua ngày sau, Hội Đồng Quốc Gia gồm các nhà lãnh đạo, các trưởng lão, và các thầy dạy giáo luật họp tại Giê-ru-sa-lem.

6Có thầy thượng tế An-ne, cùng với Cai-phe, Giăng, A-lét-xan-đơ, và những người khác trong gia tộc thầy thượng tế.

7Họ giải hai sứ đồ đến và tra vấn: “Các anh nhờ quyền lực nào chữa bệnh? Các anh nhân danh ai?”

8Phi-e-rơ được đầy dẫy Chúa Thánh Linh, giải đáp: “Thưa các nhà lãnh đạo và các trưởng lão,

9hôm nay chúng tôi bị bắt vì làm phước cho một người tàn tật và bị tra hỏi về cách chữa lành người ấy.

10Xin quý vị và toàn dân Ít-ra-ên lưu ý, đây là nhờ Danh Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu ở Na-xa-rét, Đấng mà quý vị đã đóng đinh nhưng Đức Chúa Trời đã cho Ngài sống lại từ cõi chết.

11Nhờ Chúa Giê-xu, người khuyết tật này được lành mạnh và đứng trước mặt quý vị.‘Chúa là Tảng Đá bị thợ xây nhà loại bỏ,nhưng đã trở thành Tảng Đá móng.’

12Chẳng có sự cứu rỗi trong đấng nào khác! Vì dưới bầu trời này, chúng ta không thể kêu cầu danh nào khác để được cứu rỗi.”

13Mọi người đều ngạc nhiên khi thấy Phi-e-rơ và Giăng rất can đảm, dù họ ít học. Họ cũng nhận ra hai ông đã từng sống với Chúa Giê-xu.

14Nhưng thấy người liệt chân đã được chữa lành đứng cạnh hai ông, họ không biết ăn nói làm sao.

15Vậy, họ ra lệnh đem hai ông ra khỏi hội đồng và bắt đầu thảo luận.

16Họi hỏi nhau: “Chúng ta phải xử hai người này thế nào? Thật, họ đã làm một phép lạ hiển nhiên, cả dân thành Giê-ru-sa-lem đều biết rõ, chúng ta không thể chối cãi.

17Nhưng để việc này không đồn ra trong dân chúng, chúng ta phải cảnh cáo, không cho họ truyền bá Danh Chúa Giê-xu nữa!”

18Họ đòi các sứ đồ vào và ra lệnh cấm giảng dạy trong Danh Chúa Giê-xu.

19Nhưng Phi-e-rơ và Giăng trả lời: “Các ông nghĩ Đức Chúa Trời muốn chúng tôi vâng lời các ông hay vâng lời Ngài?

20Chúng tôi không thể ngưng nói những điều chúng tôi đã thấy và nghe.”

21Sau khi hăm dọa lần nữa, họ thả hai ông ra vì sợ dân chúng, họ không biết phải trừng phạt thế nào. Vì dân chúng đều ngợi tôn Đức Chúa Trời

22về phép lạ này—chữa lành người liệt chân trên bốn mươi năm.

Tín Hữu Cầu Nguyện

23Vừa được tự do, Phi-e-rơ và Giăng liền trở về với anh chị em tín hữu, kể lại những lời hăm dọa của các trưởng tế và các trưởng lão.

24Nghe xong, mọi người đồng lòng cầu xin Đức Chúa Trời: “Lạy Chúa Chí Cao, Đấng Sáng Tạo trời và đất, biển, và vạn vật trong đó.

25Chúa Thánh Linh của Ngài đã phán qua môi miệng Đa-vít, tổ tiên chúng con và là đầy tớ Ngài:‘Tại sao các quốc gia cuồng giận?Tại sao các dân tộc âm mưu vô ích?

26Các vua trên thế giới nổi dậy;các cai trị liên minh chống lại Chúa Hằng Hữu và Đấng Mết-si-a của Ngài?’

27Thật vậy, việc này đã xảy ra trong thành phố này! Hê-rốt, Bôn-xơ Phi-lát, dân ngoại, và người Ít-ra-ên đã cấu kết nhau chống lại Chúa Giê-xu, Đầy Tớ Thánh của Ngài, Đấng mà Ngài xức dầu.

28Nhưng vô tình họ đã thực hiện chương trình của Ngài.

29Lạy Chúa, xin ghi nhớ lời người đe dọa và xin cho các đầy tớ Chúa đủ can đảm công bố lời Chúa.

30Xin Chúa đưa tay chữa bệnh; thực hiện phép lạ và việc quyền năng nhân danh Chúa Giê-xu, Đầy Tớ Thánh của Ngài!”

31Khi cầu nguyện xong, phòng họp rúng chuyển, mọi người đều đầy tràn Chúa Thánh Linh. Và họ công bố đạo Đức Chúa Trời cách dạn dĩ.

Các Tín Hữu Chia Sẻ Tài Sản

32Số tín hữu đông đảo ấy đều đồng tâm hiệp ý. Không ai coi tài sản mình là của riêng, nhưng kể mọi vật là của chung.

33Các sứ đồ đầy dẫy quyền năng, truyền giảng sự sống lại của Chúa Giê-xu, và ơn phước của Đức Chúa Trời ngập tràn trên họ.

34Không một tín hữu nào túng thiếu vì nhiều người bán nhà cửa, ruộng đất

35và trao tiền cho các sứ đồ phân phối cho tín hữu tùy theo nhu cầu mỗi người.

36Chẳng hạn có Giô-sép—thuộc đại tộc Lê-vi, sinh quán ở đảo Síp, được các sứ đồ gọi là Ba-na-ba (nghĩa là “Con Trai của Sự An Ủi”).

37Ông cũng bán đám đất của mình rồi trao tiền cho các sứ đồ.

1And as they are speaking unto the people, there came to them the priests, and the magistrate of the temple, and the Sadducees —

2being grieved because of their teaching the people, and preaching in Jesus the rising again out of the dead —

3and they laid hands upon them, and did put them in custody unto the morrow, for it was evening already;

4and many of those hearing the word did believe, and the number of the men became, as it were, five thousand.

5And it came to pass upon the morrow, there were gathered together of them the rulers, and elders, and scribes, to Jerusalem,

6and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the chief priest,

7and having set them in the midst, they were inquiring, 'In what power, or in what name did ye do this?'

8Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them: 'Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

9if we to-day are examined concerning the good deed to the ailing man, by whom he hath been saved,

10be it known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye did crucify, whom God did raise out of the dead, in him hath this one stood by before you whole.

11'This is the stone that was set at nought by you — the builders, that became head of a corner;

12and there is not salvation in any other, for there is no other name under the heaven that hath been given among men, in which it behoveth us to be saved.'

13And beholding the openness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are men unlettered and plebeian, they were wondering — they were taking knowledge also of them that with Jesus they had been —

14and seeing the man standing with them who hath been healed, they had nothing to say against [it],

15and having commanded them to go away out of the sanhedrim, they took counsel with one another,

16saying, 'What shall we do to these men? because that, indeed, a notable sign hath been done through them, to all those dwelling in Jerusalem [is] manifest, and we are not able to deny [it];

17but that it may spread no further toward the people, let us strictly threaten them no more to speak in this name to any man.'

18And having called them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus,

19and Peter and John answering unto them said, 'Whether it is righteous before God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge ye;

20for we cannot but speak what we did see and hear.'

21And they having further threatened [them], let them go, finding nothing how they may punish them, because of the people, because all were glorifying God for that which hath been done,

22for above forty years of age was the man upon whom had been done this sign of the healing.

23And being let go, they went unto their own friends, and declared whatever the chief priests and the elders said unto them,

24and they having heard, with one accord did lift up the voice unto God, and said, 'Lord, thou [art] God, who didst make the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all that [are] in them,

25who, through the mouth of David thy servant, did say, Why did nations rage, and peoples meditate vain things?

26the kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ;

27for gathered together of a truth against Thy holy child Jesus, whom Thou didst anoint, were both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with nations and peoples of Israel,

28to do whatever Thy hand and Thy counsel did determine before to come to pass.

29'And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and grant to Thy servants with all freedom to speak Thy word,

30in the stretching forth of Thy hand, for healing, and signs, and wonders, to come to pass through the name of Thy holy child Jesus.'

31And they having prayed, the place was shaken in which they were gathered together, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and were speaking the word of God with freedom,

32and of the multitude of those who did believe the heart and the soul was one, and not one was saying that anything of the things he had was his own, but all things were to them in common.

33And with great power were the apostles giving the testimony to the rising again of the Lord Jesus, great grace also was on them all,

34for there was not any one among them who did lack, for as many as were possessors of fields, or houses, selling [them], were bringing the prices of the thing sold,

35and were laying them at the feet of the apostles, and distribution was being made to each according as any one had need.

36And Joses, who was surnamed by the apostles Barnabas — which is, having been interpreted, Son of Comfort — a Levite, of Cyprus by birth,

37a field being his, having sold [it], brought the money and laid [it] at the feet of the apostles.
