Phao-lô Gặp Bê-rít-sin và A-qui-la tại Cô-rinh-tô

1Sau đó, Phao-lô rời A-thên đi Cô-rinh-tô.

2Tại đây ông gặp A-qui-la, một người Do Thái quê ở Bông-tu, và vợ là Bê-rít-sin. Họ mới từ Ý-đại-lợi đến Cô-rinh-tô vì Hoàng đế Cơ-lốt ra lệnh trục xuất tất cả người Do Thái khỏi La Mã,

3Phao-lô đến ở chung và làm việc với vợ chồng A-qui-la, vì cả ba đều làm nghề may lều.

4Mỗi ngày Sa-bát, Phao-lô đến hội đường Do Thái, giảng luận và cố thuyết phục người Do Thái và Hy Lạp theo Chúa.

5Khi Si-la và Ti-mô-thê từ Ma-xê-đoan đến, Phao-lô chỉ giảng đạo cho người Do Thái, dùng nhiều bằng cớ chứng minh Chúa Giê-xu là Đấng Mết-si-a.

6Nhưng họ chống đối ông và xúc phạm Chúa, nên ông giũ áo, tuyên bố: “Các ông phải chịu trách nhiệm và hình phạt. Đối với các ông, tôi vô tội. Từ nay tôi sẽ đem Phúc Âm đến cho dân ngoại.”

7Rồi ông rời khỏi và đến nhà Ti-ti-u Giúc-tu, là một dân ngoại, người sùng kính Đức Chúa Trời. Nhà này ở bên cạnh hội đường Do Thái.

8Cơ-rít-bu, quản lý hội đường, và cả nhà đều tin Chúa. Nhiều người Cô-rinh-tô nghe Đạo cũng quyết định tin Chúa và chịu báp-tem.

9Một đêm, Chúa phán với Phao-lô trong khải tượng: “Đừng sợ! Cứ truyền giảng Phúc Âm, đừng nín lặng,

10vì Ta ở cùng con luôn. Không ai làm hại con được, vì nhiều người trong thành này thuộc về Ta.”

11Phao-lô ở Cô-rinh-tô một năm rưỡi, tiếp tục giảng Đạo của Đức Chúa Trời.

12Khi Ga-li-ôn làm tổng trấn A-chai, người Do Thái toa rập nhau bắt Phao-lô đưa ra tòa.

13Họ tố cáo Phao-lô vì đã “xúi giục dân chúng thờ lạy Đức Chúa Trời cách trái luật.”

14Nhưng Phao-lô chưa kịp trả lời, thì Ga-li-ôn đã bảo những người tố cáo: “Này các anh Do Thái! Nếu đây là một trường hợp liên quan đến việc sai trái hay một tội hình nghiêm trọng thì tôi mới chịu khó nghe các anh kiện tụng.

15Nhưng đây chỉ là vấn đề ngôn từ, danh hiệu, giáo luật của các anh; chính các anh phải tự giải quyết lấy! Tôi không xét xử các vụ đó!”

16Rồi Ga-li-ôn đuổi họ ra khỏi tòa án.

17Để phản ứng, người Hy Lạp bắt Sốt-then, quản lý hội đường Do Thái, đánh đòn ngay trước tòa án. Nhưng Ga-li-ôn chẳng hề quan tâm.

Phao-lô Quay về An-ti-ốt, Xứ Sy-ri

18Phao-lô ở Cô-rinh-tô một thời gian rồi từ biệt anh em, cùng với Bê-rít-sin và A-qui-la đáp tàu qua xứ Sy-ri. Tại Sen-cơ-rê ông cạo đầu để kết thúc kỳ hứa nguyện theo phong tục Do Thái.

19Khi đến Ê-phê-sô, Phao-lô để các bạn đồng hành dưới tàu, một mình vào hội đường giảng luận cho người Do Thái.

20Họ mời ông ở lại, nhưng ông từ chối.

21Ông nói: “Nếu Đức Chúa Trời cho phép, lần sau tôi sẽ trở lại thăm anh em!” Ông xuống tàu rời Ê-phê-sô.

22Tàu cặp bến Sê-sa-rê, ông lên chào thăm Hội Thánh Giê-ru-sa-lem, rồi đi An-ti-ốt.

23Về An-ti-ốt một thời gian, Phao-lô lại lên đường truyền giáo, lần lượt thăm viếng khắp tỉnh Ga-la-ti và Phi-ri-gi, giúp các tín hữu thêm vững mạnh trong Chúa.

A-bô-lô Được Giới Thiệu tại Ê-phê-sô

24Có một người Do Thái mới đến Ê-phê-sô tên là A-bô-lô, quê tại A-léc-xan-ri-a. Ông là một nhà hùng biện, uyên bác về Thánh Kinh Cựu Ước.

25Được học Đạo Chúa, ông đầy nhiệt tâm giảng dạy về Chúa Giê-xu cách chính xác, dù ông chỉ học đến “lễ báp-tem của Giăng.”

26Ông bắt đầu giảng giải Phúc Âm trong hội đường cách dũng cảm. Bê-rít-sin và A-qui-la nghe ông giảng, liền đón về nhà, giúp ông thấu triệt Đạo Chúa.

27Khi A-bô-lô định đi A-chai, anh chị em ở Ê-phê-sô khuyến khích ông đi và viết thư xin các tín hữu tại đó đón tiếp ông. Đến nơi, ông giúp ích rất nhiều cho người đã nhờ ân sủng mà tin Chúa.

28A-bô-lô công khai tranh luận với người Do Thái, dùng lập luận đanh thép và viện dẫn Thánh Kinh để chứng minh Chúa Giê-xu là Đấng Mết-si-a.

Paul Ministers in Corinth

1After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth.

2There he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to visit them,

3and he stayed and worked with them because they were tentmakers by trade, just as he was.

4Every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks alike.

5And when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself fully to the word, testifying to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ.

6But when they opposed and insulted him, he shook out his garments and told them, “Your blood be on your own heads! I am innocent of it. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”

7So Paul left the synagogue and went next door to the house of Titus Justus,a worshiper of God.

8Crispus, the synagogue leader, and his whole household believed in the Lord. And many of the Corinthians who heard the message believed and were baptized.

9One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking; do not be silent.

10For I am with you and no one will lay a hand on you, because I have many people in this city.”

11So Paul stayed for a year and a half, teaching the word of God among the Corinthians.

Paul before Gallio

12While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews coordinated an attack on Paul and brought him before the judgment seat.

13“This man is persuading the people to worship God in ways contrary to the law,” they said.

14But just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio told the Jews, “If this matter involved a wrongdoing or vicious crime, O Jews, it would be reasonable for me to hear your complaint.

15But since it is a dispute about words and names and your own law, settle it yourselves. I refuse to be a judge of such things.”

16And he drove them away from the judgment seat.

17At this, the crowdseized Sosthenes the synagogue leader and beat him in front of the judgment seat. But none of this was of concern to Gallio.

Paul Returns to Antioch

18Paul remained in Corinth for quite some time before saying goodbye to the brothers. He had his head shaved in Cenchrea to keep a vow he had made, and then he sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila.

19When they reached Ephesus, Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue there and reasoned with the Jews.

20When they asked him to stay for a while longer, he declined.

21But as he left, he said, “I will come backto you if God is willing.” And he set sail from Ephesus.

22When Paul had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church at Jerusalem.Then he went down to Antioch.

Paul’s Third Missionary Journey Begins

23After Paul had spent some time in Antioch, he traveled from place to place throughout the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.

24Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, well versed in the Scriptures.

25He had been instructed in the way of the Lord and was fervent in spirit. He spoke and taught accurately about Jesus,though he knew only the baptism of John.

26And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

27When Apollos resolved to cross over to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. On his arrival, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed.

28For he powerfully refuted the Jews in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.
