Đa-vít Hậu Đãi Mê-phi-bô-sết

1Một hôm, Đa-vít hỏi: “Có ai trong nhà Sau-lơ còn sống không? Ta muốn vì Giô-na-than mà giúp đỡ người còn lại ấy.”

2Một người tên là Di-ba, trước kia làm đầy tớ trong nhà Sau-lơ được gọi vào chầu vua. Vua hỏi: “Ông là Di-ba phải không?” Di-ba thưa: “Dạ phải.”

3Vua tiếp: “Trong gia đình Sau-lơ có ai còn sống không? Ta muốn chia sẻ ân huệ của Đức Chúa Trời ban cho với người ấy.” Di-ba đáp “Còn một người con trai của Giô-na-than. Người này bị què.”

4Đa-vít hỏi tiếp: “Người ấy ở đâu?” Di-ba thưa: “Ở trong nhà của Ma-ki, con của A-mi-ên, tại Lô-đê-ba.”

5Vua Đa-vít sai đem người ấy đến.

6Mê-phi-bô-sết; con Giô-na-than, cháu Sau-lơ—đến sấp mình dưới đất cúi lạy Đa-vít. Đa-vít hỏi: “Mê-phi-bô-sết?” Mê-phi-bô-sết thưa: “Dạ, có đầy tớ vua đây.”

7Đa-vít vỗ về: “Đừng sợ. Vì Giô-na-than cha cậu, ta muốn giúp cậu, trả lại cho cậu tất cả đất đai của Sau-lơ ông nội cậu, và cậu sẽ ăn cùng bàn với ta mãi mãi.”

8Mê-phi-bô-sết cúi lạy và nói: “Tôi là ai? Tại sao vua lại ưu đãi một con chó chết như tôi?”

9Vua gọi Di-ba, là đầy tớ của Sau-lơ, căn dặn: “Ta đã cho cháu nội của chủ ông tất cả tài sản của gia đình Sau-lơ trước kia.

10Vậy ông sẽ cùng các con và đầy tớ mình cày cấy đất này, lấy hoa lợi phụng dưỡng nhà chủ. Tuy nhiên, Mê-phi-bô-sết sẽ luôn luôn ăn cùng bàn với ta.” (Di-ba có mười lăm con trai và hai mươi đầy tớ.)

11Di-ba thưa: “Tôi xin tuân theo mọi điều vua truyền.” Và như thế, Mê-phi-bô-sết ăn cùng bàn với vua như một hoàng tử.

12Mê-phi-bô-sết có một con trai nhỏ là Mai-ca. Cả nhà Di-ba trở thành đầy tớ của Mê-phi-bô-sết.

13Còn Mê-phi-bô-sết, người bị què cả hai chân, lên sống ở Giê-ru-sa-lem và được ăn chung với vua.

1And David said: Is there any one, think you, left of the house of Saul, that I may shew kindness to him for Jonathan’s sake?

2Now there was of the house of Saul, a servant named Siba: and when the king had called him to him, he said to him: Art thou Siba? And he answered: I am Siba thy servant.

3And the king said: Is there any one left of the house of Saul, that I may shew the mercy of God unto him? And Siba said to the king: There is a son of Jonathan left, who is lame of his feet.

4Where is he? said he. And Siba said to the king: Behold he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel in Lodabar.

5Then king David sent, and brought him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodabar.

6And when Miphiboseth the son of Jonathan the son of Saul was come to David, he fell on his face and worshipped. And David said: Miphiboseth? And he answered: Behold thy servant.

7And David said to him: Fear not, for I will surely shew thee mercy for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and I will restore the lands of Saul thy father, and thou shalt eat bread at my table always.

8He bowed down to him, and said: Who am I thy servant, that thou shouldst look upon such a dead dog as I am?

9Then the king called Siba the servant of Saul, and said to him: All that belonged to Saul, and all his house, I have given to thy master’s son.

10Thou therefore and thy sons and thy servants shall till the land for him: and thou shalt bring in food for thy master’s son, that he may be maintained: and Miphiboseth the son of thy master shall always eat bread at my table. And Siba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

11And Siba said to the king: As thou my lord the king hast commanded thy servant, so will thy servant do: and Miphiboseth shall eat at my table, as one of the sons of the king.

12And Miphiboseth had a young son whose name was Micha: and all the kindred of the house of Siba served Miphiboseth.

13But Miphiboseth dwelt in Jerusalem: because he ate always of the king’s table: and he was lame of both feet.
