Đa-vít Làm Vua trên Toàn Cõi Ít-ra-ên

1Ngày nọ, những đại diện của tất cả đại tộc Ít-ra-ên đến Hếp-rôn, trình bày với Đa-vít: “Chúng tôi là cốt nhục của vua.

2Ngay lúc Sau-lơ còn làm vua chúng tôi, chính ông là người dẫn chúng tôi ra trận và đưa chúng tôi về. Lúc ấy, Chúa Hằng Hữu có phán bảo ông: ‘Ngươi sẽ chăn dắt dân Ta là Ít-ra-ên. Ngươi sẽ lãnh đạo dân Ta, là Ít-ra-ên.’”

3Vậy, Đa-vít kết giao ước với các trưởng lão trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, và được họ xức dầu làm vua Ít-ra-ên.

4Đa-vít làm vua năm 30 tuổi, và ông cai trị tất cả là bốn mươi năm.

5Ông cai trị Giu-đa tại Hếp-rôn được bảy năm rưỡi, và làm vua tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, cai trị cả Ít-ra-ên và Giu-đa được ba mươi ba năm.

Đa-vít Chiếm Thành Giê-ru-sa-lem

6Đa-vít đem quân đi Giê-ru-sa-lem đánh người Giê-bu, thổ dân địa phương này. Họ nói với Đa-vít: “Ông không vào đây được đâu. Người khiếm thị và người tàn tật cũng đủ sức đánh đuổi ông.” Vì họ nghĩ rằng Đa-vít không đủ sức tấn công thành.

7Nhưng Đa-vít tấn công, chiếm đồn Si-ôn. Đồn này ngày nay được gọi là thành Đa-vít.

8Hôm ấy Đa-vít ra lệnh: “Cứ theo suối nước ngầm vào tấn công bọn ‘mù’ và ‘què’ Giê-bu, là bọn lòng ta ghét hận.” Và từ đó có câu: người mù, kẻ què sẽ không được vào nhà.

9Vậy Đa-vít ở trong đồn Si-ôn, vì thế nơi ấy được gọi là Thành Đa-vít. Vua thực hiện một chương trình kiến trúc chung quanh nơi này bắt đầu từ Mi-lô, cho đến trung tâm thành phố.

10Thế lực Đa-vít càng ngày càng tăng, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu Vạn Quân ở cùng ông.

11Hi-ram, vua Ty-rơ, ngoài việc gửi sứ giả đến, còn gửi gỗ bá hương, thợ mộc, thợ hồ để xây cung điện cho Đa-vít.

12Đa-vít nhận thức rằng việc Chúa Hằng Hữu lập ông làm vua Ít-ra-ên và cho nước cường thịnh chứng tỏ Ngài đã ban phước vì lợi ích của Ít-ra-ên, dân Ngài.

13Từ ngày ở Hếp-rôn dời về Giê-ru-sa-lem, Đa-vít cưới thêm nhiều vợ bé khác, sinh thêm nhiều con.

14Và đây là tên các con ông sinh tại Giê-ru-sa-lem: Sa-mua, Sô-báp, Na-than, Sa-lô-môn,

15Gi-ba, Ê-li-sua, Nê-phết, Gia-phia,

16Ê-li-sa-ma, Ê-li-a-đa, và Ê-li-phê-lết.

Đa-vít Chiến Thắng Quân Phi-li-tin

17Nghe tin Đa-vít đã lên ngôi làm vua nước Ít-ra-ên, quân Phi-li-tin kéo toàn lực tấn công để bắt ông. Nhưng Đa-vít biết được, nên vào đồn.

18Quân Phi-li-tin kéo đến, tràn ra trong thung lũng Rê-pha-im.

19Đa-vít cầu hỏi Chúa Hằng Hữu: “Con nên ra đánh quân Phi-li-tin không? Chúa cho con thắng không?” Chúa Hằng Hữu đáp lời Đa-vít: “Nên. Ta sẽ cho con thắng.”

20Đa-vít đến Ba-anh Phê-rát-sim, đánh bại quân địch. Ông nói: “Như một dòng nước lũ, Chúa Hằng Hữu đánh thủng phòng tuyến địch trước mặt tôi.” Và ông đặt tên nơi ấy là Ba-anh Phê-rát-sim.

21Người Phi-li-tin chạy trốn, bỏ cả tượng thần mình lại. Quân Đa-vít lấy các tượng đem đi.

22Nhưng quân Phi-li-tin quay lại, tràn ra trong thung lũng Rê-pha-im như trước.

23Đa-vít lại cầu hỏi Chúa. Lần này Ngài phán: “Đừng tấn công thẳng tới, nhưng đi vòng sau lưng địch để tấn công chúng gần rừng dâu.

24Khi nào nghe tiếng bước trên ngọn cây dâu, con sẽ tấn công địch, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu đang đi trước con, đánh quân Phi-li-tin.”

25Đa-vít vâng lời Chúa Hằng Hữu, đánh bại quân Phi-li-tin từ Ghê-ba đến Ghê-xe.

1Then all the tribes of Israel came to David in Hebron, saying: Behold we are thy bone and thy flesh.

2Moreover yesterday also and the day before, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that did lead out and bring in Israel: and the Lord said to thee: Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel.

3The ancients also of Israel came to the king to Hebron, and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the Lord: and they anointed David to be king over Israel.

4David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

5In Hebron he reigned over Juda seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned three and thirty years over all Israel and Juda.

6And the king and all the men that were with him went to Jerusalem to the Jebusites the inhabitants of the land: and they said to David: Thou shalt not come in hither unless thou take away the blind and the lame that say: David shall not come in hither.

7But David took the castle of Sion, the same is the city of David.

8For David had offered that day a reward to whosoever should strike the Jebusites and get up to the gutters of the tops of the houses, and take away the blind and the lame that hated the soul of David: therefore it is said in the proverb: The blind and the lame shall not come into the temple.

9And David dwelt in the castle, and called it, The city of David: and built round about from Mello and inwards.

10And he went on prospering and growing up, and the Lord God of hosts was with him.

11And Hiram the king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons for walls: and they built a house for David.

12And David knew that the Lord bad confirmed him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom over his people Israel.

13And David took more concubines and wives of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were born to David other sons also and daughters:

14And these are the names of them, that were born to him in Jerusalem, Samua, and Sobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

15And Jebahar, and Elisua, and Nepheg,

16And Japhia, and Elisama, and Elioda, and Eliphaleth.

17And the Philistines heard that they had anointed David to be king over Israel: and they all came to seek David: and when David heard of it, he went down to a strong hold.

18And the Philistines coming spread themselves in the valley of Raphaim.

19And David consulted the Lord, saying: Shall I go up to the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to David: Go up, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into thy hand.

20And David came to Baal Pharisim: and defeated them there, and he said: The Lord hath divided my enemies before me, as waters are divided. Therefore the name of the place was called Baal Pharisim.

21And they left there their idols: which David and his men took away.

22And the Philistines came up again and spread themselves in the valley of Raphaim.

23And David consulted the Lord: Shall I go up against the Philistines, and wilt thou deliver them into my hands? He answered: Go not up against them, but fetch a compass behind them, and thou shalt come upon them over against the pear trees.

24And when thou shalt hear the sound of one going in the tops of the pear trees, then shalt thou join battle: for then will the Lord go out before thy face to strike the army of the Philistines.

25And David did as the Lord had commanded him, and he smote the Philistines from Gabaa until thou come to Gezer.
