Proverbs

1He that hath a mind to depart from a friend seeketh occasions: he shall ever be subject to reproach.

2A fool receiveth not the words of prudence: unless thou say those things which are in his heart.

3The wicked man when he is come into the depth of sins, contemneth: but ignominy and reproach follow him.

4Words from the mouth of a men are as deep water: and the fountain of wisdom as an overflowing stream.

5It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to decline from the truth of judgment.

6The lips of a fool intermeddle with strife: and his mouth provoketh quarrels.

7The mouth of a fool is his destruction: and his lips are the ruin of his soul.

8The words of the double tongued are as if they were harmless: and they reach even to the inner parts of the bowels. Fear casteth down the slothful: and the souls of the effeminate shall be hungry.

9He that is loose and slack in his work, is the brother of him that wasteth his own works.

10The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the just runneth to it, and shall be exalted.

11The substance of the rich man is the city of his strength, and as a strong wall compassing him about.

12Before destruction, the heart of a man is exalted: and before he be glorified, it is humbled.

13He that answereth before he heareth sheweth himself to be a fool, and worthy of confusion.

14The spirit of a man upholdeth his infirmity: but a spirit that is easily angered, who can bear?

15A wise heart shall acquire knowledge: and the ear of the wise seeketh instruction.

16A man’s gift enlargeth his may, and maketh him room before princes.

17The just is first accuser of himself: his friend cometh, and shall search him.

18The lot suppresseth contentions, and determineth even between the mighty.

19A brother that is helped by his brother, is like a strong city: and judgments are like the bars of cities.

20Of the fruit of a man’s mouth shall his belly be satisfied: and the offspring of his lips shall fill him.

21Death and life are in the power of the tongue: they that love it, shall eat the fruits thereof.

22He that hath found a good wife, hath found a good thing, and shall receive a pleasure from the Lord. He that driveth away a good wife, driveth away a good thing: but he that keepeth an adulteress, is foolish and wicked.

23The poor will speak with supplications, and the rich will speak roughly.

24A man amiable in society, shall be more friendly than a brother.

1Kẻ nào ở riêng cách tìm điều chính mình ưa thích; Nó cãi cọ với những sự khôn ngoan thật.

2Kẻ ngu muội không ưa thích sự thông sáng; Nhưng chỉ muốn lòng nó được bày tỏ ra.

3Khi kẻ gian ác đến sự khinh bỉ cũng đến nữa; Và sự sỉ nhục đến với điều nhuốc nhơ.

4Lời nói của miệng loài người là giống như nước sâu; Nguồn sự khôn ngoan khác nào cái khe nước chảy.

5Lấy làm chẳng tốt mà nể vì kẻ ác, Đặng lường gạt người công bình trong việc xét đoán.

6Môi kẻ ngu muội vào cuộc tranh cạnh, Và miệng nó chiều sự đánh đập.

7Miệng kẻ ngu muội là sự bại hoại của nó; Môi nó vốn một cái bẫy gài linh hồn của nó.

8Lời kẻ thèo lẻo như vật thực ngon, Và nó thấu đến ruột gan.

9Kẻ thả trôi trong công việc mình, Cũng là anh em của kẻ phá hại.

10Danh Đức Giê-hô-va vốn một ngọn tháp kiên cố; Kẻ công bình chạy đến đó, gặp được nơi ẩn trú cao.

11Tài vật người giàu, ấy là cái thành kiên cố của người, Trong ý tưởng người cho nó như một bức tường cao.

12Trước khi sự bại hoại, lòng người vẫn tự cao; Song sự khiêm nhượng đi trước sự tôn trọng.

13Trả lời trước khi nghe, Aáy là sự điên dại và hổ thẹn cho ai làm vậy.

14Tâm thần người nâng đỡ sự bịnh hoạn mình; Nhưng trí bị nao sờn ai chịu sao nổi?

15Lòng người khôn khéo được sự tri thức; Và tai người khôn ngoan tìm kiếm sự hiểu biết.

16Của lễ của người nào dẹp đường cho người, Và dẫn người đến trước mặt kẻ sang trọng.

17Người tiên cáo nghe như phải lẽ; Song bên đàng kia đến, bèn tra xét người.

18Sự bắt thăm dẹp điều tranh tụng, Và phân rẽ những kẻ có quyền thế.

19Một anh em bị mếch lòng lấy làm khó được lòng lại hơn là chiếm thủ cái thành kiên cố; Sự tranh giành dường ấy khác nào những chốt cửa đền.

20Bụng người sẽ được no nê bông trái của miệng mình; Huê lợi môi miệng mình sẽ làm cho người no đủ.

21Sống chết ở nơi quyền của lưỡi; Kẻ ái mộ nó sẽ ăn bông trái của nó.

22Ai tìm được một người vợ, tức tìm được một điều phước. Và hưởng được ân điển của Đức Giê-hô-va.

23Người nghèo dùng lời cầu xin; Còn kẻ giàu đáp lại cách xẳng xớm.

24Người nào được nhiều bằng hữu sẽ làm hại cho mình; Nhưng có một bạn tríu mến hơn anh em ruột.
