La trasfigurazione

1E SEI giorni appresso, Gesù prese seco Pietro, e Giacomo, e Giovanni, suo fratello, e li condusse sopra un alto monte, in disparte.

2E fu trasfigurato in lor presenza, e la sua faccia risplendè come il sole, e i suoi vestimenti divenner candidi come la luce.

3Ed ecco, apparvero loro Mosè ed Elia, che ragionavano con lui.

4E Pietro fece motto a Gesù, e gli disse: Signore, egli è bene che noi stiam qui; se tu vuoi, facciam qui tre tabernacoli; uno a te, uno a Mosè, ed uno ad Elia.

5Mentre egli parlava ancora, ecco, una nuvola lucida li adombrò; ed ecco, una voce venne dalla nuvola, dicendo: Questo è il mio diletto Figliuolo, in cui ho preso il mio compiacimento; ascoltatelo.

6E i discepoli, udito ciò, caddero sopra le lor facce, e temettero grandemente.

7Ma Gesù, accostatosi, li toccò, e disse: Levatevi, e non temiate.

8Ed essi, alzati gli occhi, non videro alcuno, se non Gesù tutto solo.

9Poi, mentre scendevano dal monte, Gesù diede loro questo comandamento: Non dite la visione ad alcuno, finchè il Figliuol dell'uomo sia risuscitato dai morti.

10E i suoi discepoli lo domandarono dicendo: Come adunque dicono gli Scribi che convien che prima venga Elia?

11E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Elia veramente deve prima venire, e ristabilire ogni cosa.

12Ma io vi dico, che Elia è già venuto, ed essi non l'hanno riconosciuto, anzi hanno fatto inverso lui ciò che hanno voluto; così ancora il Figliuol dell'uomo sofferirà da loro.

13Allora i discepoli intesero ch'egli avea loro detto ciò di Giovanni Battista.

Guarigione del fanciullo lunatico

14E QUANDO furon venuti alla moltitudine, un uomo gli si accostò, inginocchiandosi davanti a lui,

15e dicendo: Signore, abbi pietà del mio figliuolo, perciocchè egli è lunatico, e malamente tormentato; poichè spesso cade nel fuoco, e spesso nell'acqua.

16Ed io l'ho presentato a' tuoi discepoli, ma essi non l'hanno potuto guarire.

17E Gesù, rispondendo, disse: Ahi! generazione incredula e perversa! infino a quando mai sarò con voi? infino a quando mai vi comporterò? conducetemelo qua.

18E Gesù sgridò il demonio, ed egli uscì fuor di lui; e da quell'ora il fanciullo fu guarito.

19Allora i discepoli, accostatisi a Gesù in disparte, dissero: Perchè non abbiam noi potuto cacciarlo?

20E Gesù disse loro: Per la vostra incredulità; perciocchè io vi dico in verità, che se avete di fede quant'è un granel di senape, voi direte a questo monte: Passa di qui a là, ed esso vi passerà; e niente vi sarà impossibile.

21Or questa generazione di demoni non esce fuori, se non per orazione, e per digiuno.

22Ora, mentre essi conversavano nella Galilea, Gesù disse loro: Egli avverrà che il Figliuol dell'uomo sarà dato nelle mani degli uomini; ed essi l'uccideranno;

23ma nel terzo giorno egli risusciterà. Ed essi ne furono grandemente contristati.

Gesù paga il tributo

24E QUANDO furon venuti in Capernaum, coloro che ricoglievano le didramme vennero a Pietro, e dissero: Il vostro Maestro non paga egli le didramme?

25Egli disse: Sì. E quando egli fu entrato in casa, Gesù lo prevenne, dicendo: Che ti pare, Simone? da cui prendono i re della terra i tributi, o il censo? da' figliuoli loro, o dagli stranieri?

26Pietro gli disse: Dagli stranieri. Gesù gli disse: Dunque i figliuoli son franchi.

27Ma, acciocchè noi non li scandalezziamo, vattene al mare, e getta l'amo, e togli il primo pesce che salirà fuori, ed aprigli la gola, e tu vi troverai uno statere; prendilo e dallo loro, per te, e per me.

1After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.

2He was changedbefore them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.

3Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.

4Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let’s make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

5While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

6When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.

7Jesus came and touched them and said,“Get up, and don’t be afraid.”

8Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone.

9As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying,“Don’t tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”

10His disciples asked him, saying, “Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

11Jesus answered them,“Elijah indeed comes first, and will restore all things;

12but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn’t recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them.”

13Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptizer.

14When they came to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him and saying,

15“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic and suffers grievously; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.

16So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

17Jesus answered,“Faithless and perverse generation! How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me.”

18Jesus rebuked the demon, and it went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.

19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, “Why weren’t we able to cast it out?”

20He said to them,“Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

21But this kind doesn’t go out except by prayer and fasting.”

22While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them,“The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,

23and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up.”They were exceedingly sorry.

24When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coinscame to Peter, and said, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the didrachma?”

25He said, “Yes.” When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying,“What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?”

26Peter said to him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him,“Therefore the children are exempt.

27But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin.Take that, and give it to them for me and you.”
